The chief of Washington's Metropolitan Police Department is being severely ridiculed online for apparently not knowing what the phrase "chain of command" means when asked about President Donald Trump's federal takeover of the District of Columbia to stem crime.

During a news conference Tuesday, Chief Pamela Smith was asked by a reporter: "Can you tell us what the chain of command is now?"

Smith's only response was: "What does that mean?"

The reporter continued: "Well, is it [Attorney General] Pam Bondi speaking to the mayor … or you, or how does this work?"

That's when D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser jumped to the microphones to rescue Smith who stepped back.

"The president has requested MPD services snd our home-rule charter outlines the process," the mayor explained.

"The president designated Attorney General Bondi as his proxy to request services through me."

During Tuesday's White House media briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated the chain of command is Trump, Bondi and DEA Administrator Terry Cole who will be working with the MPD.

According to the police chief's official biography page, "Smith has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia.

"She is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy (Session 265). She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Safety Leadership at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law."

"She's also a sought-after speaker and panelist for many platforms focused on women in law enforcement, leadership, diversity and inclusion, and more."

Social media users wasted no time slamming Smith for her apparent ignorance to the "chain of command" question, saying:

"How the heck does a Police Chief not know the meaning of chain of command?"

"A brand new rookie cop knows that!"

"She's emblematic of pretty much every D.C. official."

"I guess D.C. is run entirely by black women because they have such a great track record of controlling black teen males."

"Unbelievable! I thought for sure she was the most qualified person for the job."

"As a woman, I have never seen so many incompetent liberal women (who hold elected positions) in my entire life."

"Can't wait until city officials are hired based on competency again."

"Another 'box checker' hire for the D.C. police department."

"Oh my goodness, another shining example of hiring to fulfill DEI quotas, I'd love to see the hiring process and interviews, I bet they are a hoot."

"She's a DEI hire whose sole accomplishments are DEI projects and hiring other DEIs. She didn't know the chain of command before this change, and the first thing Bondi should do is fire her, and all DEIs, then shut down all DEI projects."

"When diversity is the priority, disaster is the result."

"Is there any normal police chiefs left? Or are they all gay woman?"

"And that, folks … explains D.C. in one sentence."

"Why are all the police chiefs in the country old women that look like dudes?"

"I thought this was a joke! That it's real is even more funny!"

An MSNBC contributor was said to be "on the verge of having a meltdown" Monday immediately after President Donald Trump announced the National Guard would be deployed to end high crime in Washington, D.C.

Appearing on "Chris Jansing Reports," contributor Eddie Glaude reacted to Trump's plan, saying: "Chris, to be honest with you, I'm trying to hold my temper. I think there's an ongoing argument that he's having in his head with Black Lives Matter.

"There's an ongoing argument that he's having with the questions around criminal justice reform and police reform.

"It's interesting that he really doesn't really care about what's actually happening in D.C. on a certain level, because he's not trying to get at the underlying root causes. He's not looking at examples of how to address rising crime rates that doesn't require a form of policing that leads to increased incarcera[tion]."

"We have to understand this, Chris, in the context of Donald Trump's racial politics and in the context of his effort to get [Jeffrey] Epstein off the front pages."

"He's actually trying to give his base red meat to get them off of the Epstein story and it's on the backs of citizens in Washington, D.C."

Trump also announced U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi would oversee the federal takeover of the district's Metropolitan Police Department, or MPD.

The MPD tracker indicates violent crime has fallen in D.C. 26% compared to last year, but there have been 99 homicides so far in 2025.

Reaction online to Claude's analysis includes:

"MSNBC logic: Crime is fine. Violence is fine. Chaos is fine. But cleaning it up? 'Racist, politically motivated, and suspicious.' You'd think they want D.C. to stay ungovernable … almost like it's part of the business model."

"Clean up the capital, clean up the crime, help the police get this district back, the streets back! People from all over the country, and world come to our capital. MSNBC this reaction is bizarre."

"I find it interesting that Glaude immediately made it about race. I don't remember Trump saying anything about race. He didn't say they were going to go after black criminals in D.C. He just said criminals. I guess Glaude knows what we all do about crime in D.C. & that's why he's so butthurt. We are going to hold every criminal accountable. Even black criminals."

FBI Director Kash Patel took to social media platform X on Saturday to detail some of the bureau's successes during the first 200 days of the Trump administration, including increases in fentanyl seizures, child trafficking arrests, and the recovery of 4,000 child victims.

He started the string by posting, “200 Days of Trump Admin: Fentanyl seizures by FBI From Jan 20 to Present: 1,500 Kilos — that’s enough lethal doses to kill 113,850,000 Americans. Seizures to date are a 25% increases from same time period last year, most ever. We look forward to working with our @SecDef and DoD partners to getting after it even more, thanks @realDonaldTrump for the new authorities.”

A few hours later, Katel followed up his first post, saying, “200 Days of Trump Admin, From Jan 20 to Present: FBI has arrested over 1,600 people for violent crimes against children, to include 270 arrests for human trafficking.”

But that wasn't all.

"Lives saved"

Patel concluded the series of tweets by posting,

200 Days of Trump Admin: FBI has identified and found 4,000 child victims. FBI investigations targeting Foreign Terrorist Organizations has resulted in 1,000 arrests of those wanting to harm our nation Seized 6,300 Kilos of methamphetamines = lives saved #SummerHeat”

Breitbart News noted that child trafficking had tripled under former President Joe Biden's administration.

That's really not a surprise since his policies brought tens of millions of illegal immigrants to the United States, and many of them were criminals and child traffickers.

Horrific crimes

Reports of rape trees where migrant predators would hang women's panties on a tree after raping them and unaccompanied minors being brought across the border to be trafficked abounded on conservative media, even if the mainstream media didn't much cover any of it.

They sacrificed thousands and thousands of women and children so Biden wouldn't look bad.

Now, Trump and his administration are setting things right. They haven't released any illegal immigrants into the U.S. in months, and even arrests are down because people know they aren't going to get a free pass to come into the country anymore.

Just like word traveled fast when Biden reversed all of Trump's border policies and threw the border wide open, it has also traveled fast about the reverse.

The FBI continues to focus on doing its part to get illegal immigrants out of the country and back to their countries of origin.

Particularly the ones who have committed crimes, many of whom may have been released from prison by their leaders and sent here to disrupt our way of life.

President Donald Trump announced during a Monday conference at the White House that his administration will take steps to combat violent crime in the District of Columbia, including deploying the National Guard and federalizing police in the district that houses the nation's capital.

"This is Liberation Day in DC, and we're going to take our capital back," Trump said about the plans.

The White House increased the police presence in D.C. recently following the brutal attack of Edward Coristine, a key figure at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), during an attempted carjacking last week.

Trump criticized the amount of violent crime and homelessness in the city and vowed to clean it up.

"It's a disaster"

NBC News was quick to point out that violent crime is down 26% in D.C. compared to last year, but Trump shared statistics that compared it unfavorably to other major cities in the U.S. and around the world.

He mentioned several high-profile incidents by name, including the Coristine attack and the killing of a congressional intern.

Trump also said he would get rid of the "slums" of D.C., and called on the Republicans in Congress to "change no cash bail" to prevent many criminals from being put back on the street after being arrested.

"The radical left City Council adopted no cash bail," he said, reffering to Washington, D.C. "By the way, every place in the country you have no cash bail — it's a disaster."

"Somebody murders somebody, and they're out on no cash bail before the day is out," Trump said.

"We're going to end that in Chicago," he continued. "We're going to change the statute. I spoke with Pam and Todd and everybody. We're going to change the statute, and I'm going to have to get the Republicans to vote, because the Democrats are weak on crime — totally weak on crime."

"Beautification"

Trump was joined at the press conference by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and other officials.

He said that the city looked "disgusting" and "ugly," which he also wanted to change. "We’re also talking about beautification. We’re the most beautiful, potentially, capital in the world," he said.

It makes sense that Trump would want to fix up the city where he now lives. He tends to want to leave things better than he found them, both in his real estate empire and the country as a whole.

Democrats will be crying about whether it's legal to use the National Guard in this way and to federalize law enforcement, but they are heavily invested in things staying the same despite many promises over decades to make them better. If Trump actually does improve things, it might shake up their voter base so radically that it will never be the same again.

Washington D.C. has been a drug and crime den for decades. Anyone who has taken a trip to the nation's capital can attest to the vast difference between the Capitol Hill area and the rest of D.C., which has turned into a garbage pit.

According to the New York Post, President Donald Trump isn't messing around when he says he's going to clean up the city and crack down on the exploding levels of crime. That was evidenced this weekend with a number of arrests and seizures.

More than a half-dozen people were arrested this weekend in Washington D.C. by Park Police officers who worked in tandem with agents from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The police officers and agents collaborated to conduct a successful contraband sweep.

What's going on?

Park Police Fraternal Order of Police chairman Kenneth Spencer told the Post in an exclusive interview that at least eight perps were arrested as part of the joint agency raids.

All kinds of contraband were seized during the D.C. raids, including drugs, fake drugs, and cash, along with weapons.

The Post noted:

At least 30 “fraudulent oxycodone pills” — which appeared to be fentanyl — were also seized, along with 210 grams of crack cocaine, 600 grams of marijuana, 64 grams of hashish oil and cash with a total value of $3,600, Spencer added.

Spencer told the outlet that the arrests and seizures were part of a White House directive from the president to crack down on crime and illegal goods in the streets of the nation's capital.

“It was a multi-agency effort that we are leading from the White House directive," Spencer said.

"It’s going to have a huge impact on crime in the city," he also said, noting that it's one of the largest task forces he's seen in 15 years on the job. "We’ve been directed to do this until further instruction."

Social media reacts

The United States Park Police issued an official statement and published pictures of the seizures on its X account.

"Thank you!," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "It's going to take a lot more than that."

President Donald Trump is launching a fresh attack on U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, calling the California Democrat a "disgusting degenerate" as he again called attention to alleged insider stock trading by the congresswoman and her husband.

"Crooked Nancy Pelosi, and her very 'interesting' husband, beat every Hedge Fund in 2024," Trump said Saturday night on Truth Social.

"In other words, these two very average 'minds' beat ALL of the Super Geniuses on Wall Street, thousands of them. It's all INSIDE iNFORMATION! Is anybody looking into this???"

"She is a disgusting degenerate, who Impeached me twice, on NO GROUNDS, and LOST! How are you feeling now, Nancy???"

This isn't the first time Trump is shining the light on Pelosi's Wall Street acumen.

On July 30, as WorldNetDaily reported, Trump said Pelosi "should be investigated" for insider trading.

"You know, Nancy Pelosi became rich by having inside information," Trump indcated. "She made a fortune with her husband and I think that's disgraceful."

"What I do think is Nancy Pelosi should be investigated. She has the highest return of anybody, practically, in the history of Wall Street, save a few. How did that happen?

"She knows exactly what's gonna happen, what's gonna be announced. She buys stock and then the stock goes up after the announcement's made. And she ought to be investigated."

Pelosi has called Trump's allegations "ridiculous."

Trump was echoing sentiments expressed by popular podcaster Joe Rogan, who indicated: "Nancy Pelosi's the head witch."

"There's like a system and they all get funded, and they all make sure that there's this kind of crooked system that will allow someone like Nancy Pelosi who – what does she make like $200,000 a year? She's worth $150 million! How the f*** did that happen?" Rogan wondered.

"If insider trading is illegal, how the f*** is it legal for her husband to make all these purchases of stock right before these giant deals came out that she negotiated? And then he gets this windfall and they get insanely wealthy! Over and over and over again!

"And there's no investigation into it, there's no talking about it. It's f***ing wild, man, It's wild sh**. And they think Putin's a mobster. What are YOU?"

Citing threats to the life of Jeffrey Epstein's incarcerated paramour Ghislaine Maxwell, federal officials with the Bureau of Prisons have deployed special operations and counterterrorism forces to the Texas jail housing her.

"There have been death threats received," a source close to the investigation told the New York Sun.

"They are focused on the outside looking in, as opposed to the happenings inside the camp."

The paper reports: "Members of the BOP's Special Operations Response Team have been working around the Federal Prison Camp Bryan's entrance and perimeter to monitor outside threats against Maxwell. The French and British socialite is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking and is trying to negotiate a commutation of her sentence amid enormous, renewed public interest in the Epstein case that has put pressure on President Trump.

"The BOP has also deployed its Counter Terrorism Unit, typically used to monitor the communications and activities for 'terrorist offenders' incarcerated in its system, to monitor threats inside Camp Bryan. Both teams have been working inside Camp Bryan since Maxwell's transfer there last week."

While Maxwell's attorney David Oscar Markus did not respond to questions from the Sun, a Bureau of Prisons spokesman said it does "not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, nor do we elaborate on specific security procedures."

"We take seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody, as well as maintaining the safety of our employees and the community."

The BOP houses a large number of infamous inmates at some of America's most secure facilities, including the ignominious supermax prison in Colorado.

"But it is highly unusual for the bureau to need to protect an inmate at a minimum-security prison camp whose most prominent current inmates, prior to Maxwell's arrival, are a 'Real Housewife,' Jen Shah, and the Theranos fraudster, Elizabeth Holmes," the Sun reports.

Maxwell was transported out of Tallahassee, Florida, to her current facility in Texas after agreeing to help the government with ongoing probes into Jeffrey Epstein's sex-trafficking ring.

Annie Farmer, an Epstein survivor, said Maxwell's transfer is "really worrying" to herself and fellow victims of sexual abuse.

"With this prison transfer, I think it again feels like she is getting preferential treatment," Farmer told CNN.

"That sounds like something that is unprecedented, and it's really worrying to us about what might be coming next."

Another survivor, Virginia Giuffre, who has since purportedly committed suicide, told media in Australia: "I was instructed to get undressed and have sex with Jeffrey Epstein while Ghislaine Maxwell was participating as well."

"Both of them," she stressed. "I was abused by Ghislaine and Epstein."

Meanwhile, appearing on "Sunday Morning Futures" with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox News Channel, Vice President JD Vance said of the Epstein case: "I laugh at the Democrats who are now all of a sudden so interested in the Epstein files. For four years Joe Biden and the Democrats did absolutely nothing about this story."

"We know that Jeffrey Epstein had a lot of connections with left-wing politicians and billionaires, and now President Trump has demanded full transparency from this, and yet somehow the Democrats are attacking him and not the Biden administration which did nothing for four years."

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is outraged after being skewered in a recent episode of South Park, the UK Guardian reportedNoem shared her dismay about the jokes during an interview on the Glenn Beck Program podcast on Thursday.

The writers of the satirical cartoon portrayed Noem as an enthusiastic puppy killer after she admitted in her memoir to killing a family dog that had to be put down. The show also mocked Noem's looks and purported plastic surgery as well as her enthusiasm for Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.

In a clip shared to YouTube by the show, Noem is depicted shooting puppies in a training video used by ICE officials. At one point, it shows her face melting and then being rearranged to its current state to suggest Noem has had cosmetic surgery on her face, which the former South Dakota governor has denied.

Noem Reacts

While speaking to host Glenn Beck, Noem admitted that she hadn't viewed the episode yet because she was too concerned with "going over budget numbers and stuff." However, Noem said that she thought the show's writers lacked creativity and went for the low-hanging fruit with their jokes about her.

"It’s so lazy to just constantly make fun of women for how they look," Noem told Beck. "If they wanted to criticize my job, go ahead and do that. But clearly they can’t – they just pick something petty like that," she added.

The premise of the satire leaned heavily on her public image as an official who is tough on illegal immigration, including her penchant for posing for photos during official business. Noem recently staged a photo op at El Salvador's CECOT prison, where several illegal immigrants from the U.S. have been deported under President Donald Trump.

The episode wrecked her for her admission in her autobiography "No Going Back" that she had to shoot her dog Cricket after it got loose and killed her neighbor's chickens and disrupted their pheasant hunt. She also admitted doing the same to a goat on her farm, which outraged the woke animal rights activists.

Double-Edged Sword

Noem is rightly upset as it is difficult to be treated like a joke, especially when the writers were using her looks as fodder. However, the fact that she and others in the Trump administration are getting the South Park treatment means they have reached a high level of cultural status.

In fact, as Fox News reported, the DHS used a still from the episode as a recruitment tool for ICE. The show's creators did not like it and responded with a crude remark, "Wait, so we ARE relevant? #eatabagofd----," the show's account replied to the post.

Undeterred, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin used South Park's remark once again to the agency's advantage. "We want to thank South Park for drawing attention to ICE law enforcement recruitment: We are calling on patriotic Americans to help us remove murderers, gang members, pedophiles, and other violent criminals from our country," McLaughlin said.

"Benefits available to new ICE recruits include an up to $50,000 signing bonus, student loan forgiveness, and retirement benefits. Apply today at join.ice.gov," the post added.

The culture is paying attention to what is happening in the Trump administration, which is why the show felt it could poke fun at its policies and figures and have its audience understand the jokes. It was lazy to focus on Noem's appearance, but the episode remains a net positive for the Trump agenda as it demonstrates the conservative movement's arrival at prominence.

President Donald Trump has ordered federal law enforcement to increase patrols in Washington, D.C., in response to a youth crime wave.

"This has to be the best-run place in the country, not the worst-run place in the country. And it has so much potential," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Wednesday.

While crime in the city has declined from a high in 2023, the amount of violence plaguing the city, particularly among ruthless juveniles, is still unacceptably high.

Violent youths plague capital

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said federal patrols in the city will last for at least one week starting Friday.

“Washington, DC is an amazing city, but it has been plagued by violent crime for far too long," Leavitt said. “President Trump has directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement to protect innocent citizens."

According to police data, minors accounted for half of all carjacking arrests in the city over the last two years. The city's left-wing leaders have been slow to act.

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, a Democrat, has dismissed youth crime by saying "kids are kids." The dangers of that lenient view were laid bare when a former DOGE staffer was beaten to a bloody pulp by a pack of ruthless teens in an attempted carjacking last weekend.

Trump threatens takeover

The savage assault sparked Trump's attention and brought D.C.'s crime policies under fresh scrutiny.

"If D.C. doesn't get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run, and put criminals on notice that they're not going to get away with it anymore," Trump said in a post.

Trump has called for D.C. to change its laws so minors can be prosecuted as adults. The newly confirmed U.S. Attorney for D.C., Jeanine Pirro, is a Trump ally who agrees that lawless juveniles have been "coddled" for too long.

The mother of 21-year-old Republican intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, who was murdered in northwest D.C. last month, says she supports Trump's push to take over the city.

"My son didn't deserve what happened to him. Nobody deserves that. He was shot. He wasn't the intended target," Tamara Tarpinian-Jachym said.

Washington, D.C., has limited autonomy under the Home Rule Act, which allows the president to federalize the Metropolitan Police if "special conditions of an emergency nature exist."

The office of Vice President J.D. Vance said he was "unaware" that Secret Service raised the water level of an Ohio river so his family could go kayaking.

"The Secret Service often employs protective measures without the knowledge of the vice-president or his staff, as was the case last weekend,” a spokesperson said.

Vance's kayaking trip

The vice president, an Ohio native, took his family kayaking down a tributary of the Ohio River for his 41st birthday earlier this month.

The leftist Guardian newspaper was first to report that Vance requested an increase in the outflow from Caesar Creek Lake, which feeds into the Little Miami River.

The river's elevation increased more than two feet around August 2, at the same time that the lake's elevation dropped, according to public geological data.

The Guardian's report cited an anonymous source that claimed Vance's team wanted "ideal kayaking conditions," but the outlet said it could not verify the claim.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Louisville, Kentucky, said Secret Service made the request for safety reasons -- but Democrats seized on the report, accusing the vice president of making extravagant demands at taxpayer expense even as the White House and Republicans in Congress make drastic cuts to public spending.

"Outrageous! Must be why he wasn’t available to meet about his Big Bonanza for Billionaires Bill which will devastate Ohio manufacturing jobs and our rural hospitals. The Army Corps of Engineers should share records with relevant committee of jurisdiction in Congress," said Ohio Democrat Marcy Kaptur.

Secret Service confirms

The Secret Service has since confirmed that Vance had no involvement in the decision.

“These decisions were made solely by agents during our standard advance planning process and did not involve the Office of the Vice President," the Secret Service said.

Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman, said the river was too shallow for agents to navigate safely, causing a boat to run aground during a scouting trip by Secret Service and local authorities. The Army Corps of Engineers was asked to increase the water flow to accommodate the motorized boats used by security.

Eugene Pawlik, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps, characterized the request as routine and said it did not have an adverse impact on water levels upstream or downstream.

“The Secret Service request did not fall outside our normal operating parameters,” said Pawlik.
