A sheriff trying his best to deal with crime in far-left Colorado is warning that state lawmakers forced him to release a suspect in an attempt murder case, and that person now is on the streets again.
"Someone's going to get hurt and someone's going to get hurt bad," explained Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams.
The suspect in question was caught on video allegedly punching one man until he fell backward, hitting his head and laying there unconscious. In a second situation, the suspect allegedly punched a man until he was lying flat on his back on the pavement, then continued to bash the man in the head.
Here is a local news report describing how the sheriff was forced, by leftist state lawmakers in Colorado's Democrat-majority legislature, to release the suspect, Debisa Ephriam.
He's a refugee from Tanzania, and was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder, first-degree assault and engaging in a riot, as well as aggravated menacing with a weapon and first-degree burglary in a second case.
A report at Not the Bee explained:
Under Colorado HB24-1034, passed in 2024, those deemed unfit to stand trial get taxpayer-funded psychiatric care that is provided "in a timely manner," but the state cannot hold them indefinitely in such facilities, meaning they end up back on the streets. Sheriff Reams said that Colorado lawmakers have "created a crisis where very dangerous individuals are being released to the street to reoffend over and over."
Unfortunately, that was the point of the "social justice" and BLM movements. It has happened the country over, from Weld County to Charlotte, North Carolina. We were told that systemic racism was unfairly prosecuting non-white Americans, so the scales of justice were tipped to allow preferential treatment for those seen as "marginalized."
The law had been signed by Colorado's homosexual governor, Jared Polis, who has fought President Donald Trump's Make America Great Agenda in a variety of ways.
The report explained, "Colorado's 'social justice' laws allow violent offenders to be released back into the public if they are deemed too stupid and/or crazy to stand trial. No, that is not satire. Not the Bee recently covered the case of a sex offender who was released despite trying to abduct a child."
Social media comments were not polite to the state:
"This is why you need to be armed at all times. Of course the same demons that released this guy are constantly trying to disarm you … hmmm…"
"So he got 5 free months room, board and meals and now he's in your neighborhood. Yay!"
The sheriff's office actually released video evidence in the case, accompanied by a warning about the violence documented:
The sheriff's office said, "Content Warning the videos in this press release may be disturbing to some viewers as they depict acts of violence. Both video clips were edited to redact personal identifiable features and information."
It explained Ephraim was being released "per Colorado statute."
Competency was raised in two of his criminal cases, and the courts found in July of this year his competency could not be restored, and therefore he would "not be able to stand trial."
He had been arrested last April in Greeley on the long list of criminal counts.
"The first video in this post is believed to have occurred in the Fort Collins area a few weeks prior to the second video, which allegedly happened in Greeley. Although the videos in this post could not be authenticated, they were found on social media and given to law enforcement by one of the victim's family members in the Greeley Police Dept's case," the report said.
"The state legislature and the governor have continued to weaken the criminal justice system by handcuffing law enforcement, prosecutors and judges for the sake of criminals. Colorado HB24-1034 has created a crisis where very dangerous individuals are being released to the street to reoffend over and over, this is the latest example. I pray this individual doesn't hurt another innocent victim but the public deserves to know of his past violent actions so they can protect themselves accordingly. God help this State," Reams said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt set the record straight that President Donald Trump did not act as an FBI informant in the case of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, The Hill reported. The rumor surfaced last week after House Speaker Mike Johnson mentioned it during a press conference.
Leavitt was asked about Johnson's claim on Tuesday during a White House press briefing. When Johnson was asked about Trump's supposed connections to Epstein, Johnson said that the president "was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down" referring to the sex trafficker's heinous conduct.
"I can affirm that is not true," Leavitt told reporters. "I think the Speaker was referring to the fact that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago property for reasons the president has already discussed," she added.
Johnson also took the opportunity to set the record straight on his previous remarks on Monday and called it "much ado about nothing" after the media's coverage of the throwaway line. According to CNN, Johnson clarified what he meant by his previous statement while speaking to the press.
"What I was referring to in that long conversation was what the (Epstein) victims’ attorney said. More than a decade ago, President Trump kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago, and he was one of the only people, one of the only prominent people, as everyone has reported … that he was willing to help law enforcement go after this guy who was a disgusting child abuser, sex trafficker, all the allegations," Johnson explained.
"That’s what they heard. So the president was helpful in that," Johnson added.
"I don’t know if I used the right terminology, but that’s common knowledge, and everybody knows that. So this is much ado about nothing," Johnson said. The CNN reporter asked Johnson if Trump told him about being an informant, and the Louisiana Republican said it was "recounting what others have said" but that Trump had spoken out against "the Epstein evils many times" before.
"I was repeating what has been common knowledge for a long time. The president was helpful in trying to get Epstein for the law enforcement to go after Epstein. That’s always been my understanding. That’s common knowledge. It’s the public’s understanding. I didn’t — I was not breaking news there, OK? What I’m trying to emphasize is that the president is as disgusted about this as everyone is," Johnson said.
During the entire term of former President Joe Biden, the press did not seem interested in learning more about Epstein, his victims, or his crimes. Now that Trump is in office, they are demanding answers, which the Trump administration has admittedly been short on aside from the established narrative.
Trump has called this aspect of their curiosity a "hoax," which the leftist media has tried to claim was a dismissal of the entire story. Johnson was explaining this aspect when he said that Trump was an informant. "He’s not saying that what Epstein did is a hoax," Johnson explained on Friday.
"It’s a terrible, unspeakable evil. He believes that himself. When he first heard the rumor, he kicked him out of Mar-a-Lago," Johnson added, which is an established fact that even the media admits to.
"He was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down. The president knows and has great sympathy for the women who have suffered these unspeakable harms," Johnson said, which is what sparked the media questions about the fact.
Trump may not have been an informant, but he certainly seemed like one of the few wealthy and powerful individuals who stopped associating with Epstein after getting to know him better. The left can spin this however they choose, but the truth is that they are the ones who looked the other way for years on the Epstein case, and America knows it.

The backlash was immediate and intense when reports surfaced that the police department in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, which has a large population of Muslims, had gone for "unity" with a new Arabic-language patch for officers to wear.
It states, "Dearborn Heights Police," in Arabic.
So after an interval of only two days, Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi went to social media to backtrack.
"On Wednesday, September 3rd, information was disseminated from the Dearborn Heights Police Department regarding a digital mock-up of the DHPD patch bearing the department name translated in Arabic script," his Facebook post said. "The design mock-up idea showed the words 'Dearborn Heights Police' in Arabic and was said to be optional. The patch effort was an internal discussion among some within the police department which was not put forth for consensus or further review."
But, he said, "Should efforts like this be formally undertaken to make any changes to the Police uniform, it is our goal to include multiple PD stakeholders for a larger conversation, to ensure all are included in the discussion. As we are one PD, each individual's uniform represents the DHPD as a whole, and therefore merits the review and input of all. At this time, this patch addition remains an idea and should NOT have been presented as an official prototype."
Dearborn Heights has a population of around 39% Middle Eastern or North African as of the most recent census, but triggered Republican Congressman Randy Fine with its announcement. He called it an example of "Sharia Law" coming to Michigan.
The Daily Mail reported, "Dearborn was dubbed the U.S. 'Jihad Capital' by The Wall Street Journal and made headlines last year when protesters at a pro-Palestine rally chanted 'death to America.'"
Fine, of Florida, said, "They said their goal was to bring sharia law to America. You should've believed them. Pray for Michigan."

There are a lot of threats to the rights of parents to raise their own children these days. Some schools have been caught forcing children into various religious ideologies, without parental permission.
Others, including several in Colorado, have been caught secretly campaigning for children enrolled in their classes to claim to be transgenders, and portray themselves in class as such.
Now those types of cases are going to be under federal review.
It is Just the News that revealed a new DOJ memo has directed the Civil Rights Division to work with various law enforcement partners to "identify threats to parental rights and freed speech" in schools.
"Recent years have seen a disturbing trend in which state and local authorities have brought radical gender and racial ideology into our public schools while suppressing dissenting viewpoints. Worse still, they have ignored, dismissed, and even retaliated against concerned parents who speak out against these morally and factually bankrupt ideologies and in defense of their own children," charged Attorney General Pam Bondi.
She explained the First Amendment guarantees the right of every citizen to speak freely, assemble peaceably, and petition the government for redress of grievances – including at public school board meetings.
Political ideologies, bureaucratic convenience and such do not overcome those rights.
The report said she specifically cited forced indoctrination that schools impose on children when they refuse to exempt them from teachings that violate their religious beliefs.

A "bikini barista" at a drive-thru coffee stand near Seattle was grabbed by the arm and yanked by a customer – leaving her with bruises and him with a first-degree attempted kidnapping charge.
Surveillance video shows the woman leaning out the window to hand drinks to a vehicle's driver, who grabs her and apparently tries to pull her into the car.
Fox 13 Seattle had the story:
According to the report, the incident occurred at a Ladybug Bikini Espresso stand in Lakewood, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, on Aug. 13.
The suspect, an apparent L.A. Dodgers fan, ripped the woman's shirt in the incident. The New York Post reports the barista was left with red marks on her wrist, bicep and shoulder
Fox 13 reports authorities tracked down the man in the footage, 19-year-old Ezekiel Guerrero, about a week later using information from his credit card receipt.

Fox 13 reports authorities tracked down the man in the footage, 19-year-old Ezekiel Guerrero, about a week later using information from his credit card receipt.
The incident comes as attention is drawn to high-profile crimes against young women, most notably the stabbing murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zrutska in Charlotte, North Carolina, which President Trump has pointed to as evidence of the need for tougher sentencing of criminals, especially repeat offenders.

As a national furor over career criminals intensifies with the Charlotte murder of a Ukraine refugee, another repeat offender, this one in Louisiana, allegedly raped a 4-year-old girl and gave her a sexually transmitted disease just weeks after being released.
Now, surgical castration and the death penalty are being discussed among law-enforcement officials for 25-year-old Anthony Jelks.
WAFB-TV reports: "East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said Monday, Sep. 8, that his office is exploring every option in the case against Anthony Jelks, which could include surgical castration or the death penalty."
"I can't think of anything worse than raping a child," Moore said.
The station reported Morse is "well-known to Baton Rouge police, causing problems over the years spelled out in a plethora of paperwork filed with the 19th Judicial District Court."
Baton Rouge Police Chief T.J. Morse told WAFB the situation is "extremely frustrating."
"Mr. Jelks, we have arrested six times over the last six-seven years," Morse said.
"He has everything from firearm charges to domestic-abuse battery, violation of protective orders."
Elon Musk indicated: "This needs to stop."
Political commentator Gunther Eagleman said: "If they been arrested 6 times, the judge who lets him out should absolutely be held accountable when he commits another heinous crime."
Eric Daugherty of Florida's Voice noted: "'Previously arrested…released…' needs to STOP being a national headline. Our people are getting raped and murdered. The judges, district attorneys and state attorneys who allow this have blood on their hands."
As WorldNetDaily reported, U.S. Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla. says he'll introduce legislation to hold judges accountable when violent repeat offenders they release commit new crimes.
"It's easy to release criminals when you're protected by an armed bailiff at all times. The rest of us aren't so lucky," said Fine.

New video Tuesday reveals the horrifying moments immediately after 23-year-old Ukraine refugee Iryna Zarutska was stabbed by career criminal Decarlos Brown, Jr. on a commuter train in Charlotte, North Carolina, and President Donald Trump released his own video calling for "vicious" crime-fighting efforts.
Author Hans Mahncke said of the new footage, "Here's the part of the Iryna Zarutska murder video they didn't show. She didn't die quickly. She was fully aware, desperately terrified, and suffering to the end. It is beyond heartbreaking."
Journalist Collin Rugg said the video "shows Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska looking up in horror, trying to process what had just happened to her after being stabbed.
"Zarutska was seen putting her face in her hands as she bled out. Heartbreaking."
Journalist Nick Sortor noted: "Not ONE PERSON helped her as she began bleeding out, before eventually dying. Absolutely SICKENING. These people should be ASHAMED of themselves."
President Donald Trump released his own video from the Oval Office Tuesday addressing the shocking murder of Zarutska.
"We have to respond with force and strength," Trump said. "We have to be vicious, just like they are. It's the only thing they understand."
"We cannot allow a depraved criminal element of violent repeat offenders to continue spreading destruction and death throughout our country."
During Tuesday's White House press briefing, Press Secretary slammed national news media outlets that have ignored coverage of the Zarutska slaying.
"Most shamefully of all the majority of the media decided that her murder was not worth reporting on because it does not fit a preferred narrative," Leavitt said.
"Many outlets in this room decided her murder was not worth reporting on originally because it does not fit a preferred narrative. Many journalists in this room spilled plenty of ink trying to smear Daniel Penny for defending a subway car from a lunatic, but none of those reporters wrote stories about an actual murderer."
"Her death was entirely preventable. Decarlos Brown should never have been on that train that night. He should've been behind bars!"
"This is madness. Iryna should still be alive."
Leavitt also blasted Democrats for allowing people like Zarutska's killer to walk free.
"These reckless policies have turned too many of our American cities into hunting grounds for career criminals who mock our justice system, drain law enforcement resources, and wreak havoc on law-abiding citizens," she said.
"Here's the truth that every American must know: too many innocent people across the country continue to pay the price of the failed experiment known as cashless bail, that's been championed by the Democratic Party for years."
"Democrats in North Carolina and nationwide are consumed with pushing a woke soft on crime agenda, no matter how many innocent Americans suffer as a result."
"Instead of aggressively prosecuting and locking up violent criminals, the Democrat-backed cashless bail approach let these criminals roam free in our country to offend again and again."
The Justice Department filed a federal charge against Brown on Tuesday, one count of committing an act causing death on a mass-transportation system.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said: "Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream – her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people.
"I have directed my attorneys to federally prosecute DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat violent offender with a history of violent crime, for murder. We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable crime, and he will never again see the light of day as a free man."

A week ago President Donald Trump canceled the extended Secret Service protection plan Joe Biden had created for his vice president, Kamala Harris.
California police from Los Angeles then were detailed to provide security for the millionaire politician at her luxury Brentwood home.
Now, amid raging protests from taxpayers, that's been canceled, too.
A report at Legal Insurrection explained the Los Angeles Police Department dropped its special security detail for Harris, and that ended "days of controversy over pulling officers from crime suppression duties to guard her Brentwood home."
Ordinarily, her Secret Service protection would have ended in July, but Biden created a special accommodation for her, extending it.
Trump, however, canceled that carve-out from the law for her.
Then LAPD officers were sent to protect her, triggering outrage among California taxpayers on the hook for her privileges.
The report said, "The move came after mounting criticism from within the ranks. The Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents rank-and-file officers, blasted the use of city resources."
Its statement said, "Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate who also happens to be a multi-millionaire … and who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts."
The statement continued, "Mayor Karen Bass should tell Governor Newsom that if he wants to curry favor with Ms. Harris and her donor base, then he should open up his own wallet because LA taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness."
WND had reported that Harris is just about to launch a self- and book-promoting tour.

The man who created the inaccurate but much-used Black Lives Matter slogan "Hand's up, don't shoot" after Michael Brown rushed a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, 11 years ago, and was shot and killed, now has died in a shootout, which didn't involve police.
Dorian Johnson, claimed that his friend, Brown, had been compliant and accommodating when he confronted that officer, the officer who ultimately shot and killed Brown in self-defense.
A commentary at Twitchy explained, "The man whose lies helped propel BLM, causing death, riots, and destruction, has died in a fatal shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. In 2014, Dorian Johnson witnessed his friend Michael Brown rush a police officer in Ferguson. The officer fatally shot Brown in self-defense. But before the truth finally came out, lies were spread about the killing by Johnson, which created a national media-fueled outrage that was driven on by the later-debunked 'Hands up, Don't Shoot' chant and narrative."
Johnson died in a shooting not involving police only blocks from where Brown died.
"Posters are not missing the irony that a person who sparked an anti-police crusade died by the very violence that more policing could have helped prevent," the report said.
"Guess they decided his black life didn't matter. That happens a lot in rampant black-on-black crime. When the Brown shooting happened, 'journalists' and their fellow Democrats, seeing the opportunity to push a false narrative, jumped at the chance to do so. They helped spread the 'Hands Up, Don't Shoot' hoax nationwide."
A report by CNN said Johnson, 33, died in a shooting early Sunday morning at a block of apartments.
The investigation continues, although police said one person already is in custody.
Brown was 18 at the time he was shot by policeman Darren Wilson, a white man, on August. 9, 2014.
Wilson argued he shot Brown in self-defense as Brown charged at him. Johnson said he was a witness to the shooting and that there was a confrontation during which Brown was shot in the hand.
The report said, "Moments later, Brown moved back toward Wilson and the fatal shots were fired, according to federal investigators. Johnson said Brown had faced the officer with his hands up in surrender, but that assertion has been hotly contested, and a Justice Department investigation found that other witnesses 'gave varying accounts of exactly what Brown was doing with his hands as he moved toward Wilson,' including balling up his fists and pulling up his pants."
Johnson's claim about the events sparked that "hands up, don't shoot" mantra that was used over and over by extremists across the nation.

The horrific slaughter of Ukraine refugee Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte, North Carolina, train has now caught the attention of billionaire Elon Musk, who is slamming legacy media for their suppression of the white woman's murder by a black repeat offender, as well as district attorneys and judges "who enable murder, rape and robbery."
As WorldNetDaily reported Sunday, outrage exploded online as new video reveals graphic details of Decarlos Brown, 35, allegedly stabbing to death the 23-year-old Zarutska, after he had been previously arrested and released at least 14 times.
In a series of posts on his X platform Sunday and Monday, reacted to messages from others commenting on Zarutska's tragedy.
Xaviaer DuRousseau noted: "So let me get this straight … A bartender can go to prison for serving drinks to a drunk person if they drive and murder someone … but judges aren't accountable after letting a 14 TIME REPEAT OFFENDER murder a young woman?"
Musk responded: "Let's change the law. Between now and then, name and shame the DAs and judges who enable murder, rape and robbery.
"But especially shame those who funded the campaigns of the DAs and judges. That will make the biggest difference."
U.S. Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., said: "I'm going to introduce legislation to hold judges accountable when violent repeat offenders they release commit new crimes.
"It's easy to release criminals when you're protected by an armed bailiff at all times. The rest of us aren't so lucky. Those 12+ judges that released Decarlos Brown Jr. should have their day in court too."
Musk replied that such legislation is "Sorely needed!"
Cultural commentator Amiri King posted a series of FBI statistics, as he noted: "You want to know something that SHOULD make you VERY uncomfortable?
"White people are victims of black violence at INSANELY disproportionate rates. It's not even close.
"Between 2017-2021, black-on-white violent incidents totaled ~2.38M. White-on-black totaled ~0.37M."
"A white person is 31 times more likely to be victimized by a black person than the other way around. Black people make up ONLY 13.6% of the American population. TELL ME WE AREN'T BEING HUNTED," King concluded.
"Did you know this?" Musk said to the public in reply. "These are just the facts as reported by the government. One can argue about what the solution may be, but the facts are accurate."
Musk also took aim at media giants ignoring the Zarutska murder, including the Associated Press, whom he has previously called "Associated Propaganda," as well as the New York Times which he is now calling "an utter lie."
Social media influencer Ian Miles Cheong noted: "Media manipulation 101: All they have to do to control a narrative is to never report on any stories that will flip their script.
"This is why it's so crucial to talk about the murder of Iryna Zarutska. Do not let her story be forgotten."
Musk replied: "As soon as anyone does the slightest bit of research beyond what the legacy (fka mainstream) news reports, the magnitude of legacy media lies is staggering.
"Do some research and it will feel like waking up from a fever dream."
Musk even reposted his appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast, in which he flayed legacy news media for its hard-left bias.
"The whole thing's very crazy. The media is incredibly partisan," Musk began. "Almost all the media is left-shifted."
"If you talk to somebody who gets all their information from, like, what I call legacy media, they're living in a different world. … It's like they're living in an alternate reality."
Vi Lyles, the Democrat mayor of Charlotte, actually praised media that did not broadcast surveillance video of Zarutska's slaying.
"The video of the heartbreaking attack that took Iryna Zarutska's life is now public," Lyles said.
"I want to thank our media partners and community members who have chosen not to repost or share the footage out of respect for Iryna's family."
Even Wikipedia is considering completely deleting its entry titled: "Killing of Iryna Zarutska."
It posted a notice indicating: "An editor has nominated this article for deletion. You are welcome to participate in the deletion discussion, which will decide whether or not to retain it."
President Donald Trump called the suspect "a lunatic" who "just viciously stabbed" Zarutska.
"So there are evil people. We have to be able to handle that. If we don't handle that, we don't have a country," Trump said.
