House Speaker Mike Johnson has canceled next week's vote in a bid to force Democrats' hand in approving Republicans' spending bill, The Hill reported. Democrats have repeatedly rejected passing a continuing resolution, which would keep the government operational for an additional seven weeks until a budget deal can be reached.
Republicans have drafted a "clean" bill that Democrats could vote on immediately to end the shutdown. Instead, they've let it drag on so that they can blame Republicans while hoping to hold out long enough to get their spending priorities funded, including reversing spending cuts made earlier this year.
However, Johnson is onto their tricks and has already been dropping hints that he might decide to cancel the vote altogether in the House of Representatives, just ahead of the Senate's revote. "The House will come back into session and do its work as soon as Chuck Schumer allows us to reopen the government," Johnson said.
Sure enough, Johnson designated a "district work period" for the week of Oct. 7-13, meaning business will not be conducted in the House of Representatives. Johnson canceled votes last week for the Senate, but he's excused the House lawmakers, who have been on recess since the shutdown began, from duty for another week.
At the beginning of last week, Johnson had promised to continue and planned to bring congressional representatives back to Washington, D.C., for the coming week. "Yes, the House will be returning next week, and they would be here this week, except that we did our work," Johnson said on Wednesday.
"But there is nothing truly that we can do, much on the floor, while the lights are almost literally out here. We have to open the government," Johnson later added.
Now it seems that both sides are unwilling to budge, and it has them locked in an impasse as the government grinds to a halt. Republicans believe they have crafted an acceptable spending bill, but Democrats continue to hold out for their pet causes as the closure drags on.
"We passed it, and it's been rejected by the Senate. So the House will come back into session and do its work as soon as Chuck Schumer allows us to reopen the government. That's plain and simple," Johnson told reporters Friday, according to Fox News.
Still, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has promised to bring his caucus to Washington, D.C. this week and has kept House Democrats in town despite the shutdown. House Republicans were expected to participate in a conference call Saturday morning as well.
Friday's downvote marks the fourth time the Senate has voted against the Republicans' effort to keep the government open with a continuing resolution. Instead, Democrats want to pack additional spending onto the budget, including $88 million in extra security for lawmakers and extending the Obamacare healthcare subsidies set to expire this year.
They also want to reverse Medicaid cuts that were included in President Donald Trump's "One Big, Beautiful Bill" earlier this year. Democrats also wish to reinstate funding for PBS and NPR, which are supposed to be for the public good but are just leftist mouthpieces anyway.
Democrats are playing games, both with the spending bill and the way they're characterizing the decision to shut down Congress. They have accused Republicans of purposely delaying a vote, forcing the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files. Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) needed the signature of one more lawmaker to make it happen, but will fall short now that Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) can't be sworn in.
Republicans see this for what it is as a political ploy, but Democrats believe they have another issue to club Republicans with after this. "Johnson and the House Republicans care more about protecting the Epstein files than protecting the American people," Schumer claimed.
Both sides blame the other for the shutdown, but it's clear that Democrats want to make political capital that they believe comes from holding out. Unfortunately for them, they've likely gravely miscalculated as the American people saw through their tricks enough to vote against them in the first place.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is warning that thousands of Americans will die unless Republicans agree to healthcare demands at the center of the ongoing government shutdown.
Democrats have refused to fund the government without an agreement to extend enhanced Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year.
While speaking on MSNBC, Sanders blamed the shutdown on Republicans and accused them of abandoning Senate norms -- even though Republicans have put forward a routine bill to fund the government that Democrats refuse to even consider.
“Republicans need 60 votes -- that’s been the case for decades. The point of that rule is bipartisanship, negotiation. You need eight Democratic votes. OK. How do we work together to keep the government open? Republicans, for the first time in modern history, have chosen not to negotiate. They are saying it’s their way or the highway. That is not acceptable,” Sanders said.
Sanders then dropped a dramatic prediction, warning that thousands of Americans will die without the Obamacare subsidies Democrats are demanding.
"And I want everybody to understand that if we do not make changes and fight back effectively, you’re going to see 15 million Americans lose their health insurance through cuts to Medicaid and the ACA. According to studies, 50,000 Americans die each year. That’s what’s at stake,” Sanders said.
We don't like saying this, but Bernie does have one small point beneath all of his hysterical rhetoric: the fact is that these tax credits are necessary for millions of Americans to afford Obamacare, thanks to the insanely high premiums on the exchanges.
According to one analysis, premiums will more than double next year unless the tax credits are renewed.
You would think there's a lesson there about the failures of government healthcare, but Democrats want to double down on federal spending.
Nevertheless, Republicans, such as Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), are willing to discuss extending healthcare subsidies in the future.
Republicans understand that these subsidies are popular, which is why Democrats are making such an issue out of them.
GOP lawmakers say that negotiations over Obamacare should happen later, once the government is back open. Democrats are doubling down on emotional manipulation, as usual.
We always knew that Bernie was a hysterical demagogue, but this rhetoric about Republicans wanting to usher in mass death is on another level.
Either he's just being cynical, or the old man is really starting to lose his marbles.
Nobody knows when the government shutdown will end -- but President Donald Trump can guarantee that many federal workers won't have jobs to come back to when it's over.
Working with budget hawk Russ Vought, Trump is leveraging the shutdown to escalate his rolling purge of the federal government, the New York Post reports.
Trump hinted that firings could come as soon as Friday, concentrated in agencies staffed by "Democrat" officials.
“I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent,” Trump wrote.
Echoing Trump, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt warned that "thousands" of workers are facing termination, particularly those who do not support Trump's mission.
Some of the hardest-hit agencies could include the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - frequent targets of the right, where over 80% of workers have already been furloughed.
Any firings could create political pain for Democrats, who have cast themselves as defenders of the civil service -- while at the same time choosing to shutter government services over policy differences.
Democrats have refused to fund the government unless Republicans extend enhanced tax credits for the Obamacare exchanges.
Republicans say they are willing to negotiate on healthcare, but the issue should be addressed another time.
There was no end in sight to the impasse Friday as Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), continued to press their demands.
"It's Day 3 of the Trump shutdown, and the government remains closed because Donald Trump and Republicans insist on raising Americans' health care premiums and kicking millions off their insurance," Schumer said.
Schumer's hostage-taking strategy has political risks, not least the possibility that voters blame his party for the consequences of the shutdown.
Indeed, Schumer himself opposed a shutdown earlier this year, warning it would make Trump even stronger. Schumer took a drubbing from Democrats, at the time, but the senator may have been onto something.
Indeed, Trump and his Republican allies say Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot.
“I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump wrote.

A campaign to cancel and boycott Netflix over its "woke" programming that routinely sexualizes young children has triggered a $15 billion plunge in the company's value this week, according to reports.
The campaign, which already had been put in action by multiple value-based organizations, got a huge boost this week from Elon Musk.
He posted on social media multiple times recommending that parents cancel Netflix.
And now the Gateway Pundit said the company had hemorrhaged $15 billion in value.
"Netflix is in free fall," the report said, "The streaming giant lost more than $15 billion in market value in just one week, according to Forbes, after Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk urged his 227 million followers to cancel their subscriptions 'for the health of your kids.'"
Musk had been triggered by a Netflix cartoon called "Dead End: Paranormal Park," which promotes transgenderism and bisexualism for children.
It was marketed to children as young as seven.
The X account Libs of TikTok had cited the offending materials: "Meet Hamish Steele, creator of a kid's show on @netflix which teaches kids they can be transgender. After Charlie [Kirk] was ass*ssinated, he called Charlie a nazi and had a meltdown because people were mourning him. Netflix is SILENT. Their silence is deafening. CANCEL NETFLIX,"
The Netflix stock fell 2.4% over the week, even as Dow Jones Industrials were climbing.
Newsmax reported, "Musk's boycott calls thus far have made a small dent in an otherwise strong year for Netflix's stock and revenues. Shares are up 30% since January, when they traded around $886. In its July earnings report, the company posted a 16% year-over-year revenue increase to $11 billion, while net profit jumped 46% to $3.1 billion. Netflix also raised subscription prices by at least $1 across all plans at the start of the year."
The boycott plans mirror those against Anheuser-Bush InBev in 2023 after it partnered with a transgender influence to promote its beer, which promptly plunged in market share and to this day has not recovered its ranking.
WND had reported on the launch of the campaign.
It is "not OK," Musk said, when Libs of TikTok explained Netflix's "Dead End Paranormal Park" was pushing "pro-transgender on CHILDREN."
The show, advertised for 7-year-olds, also prompted the "Parents – BEWARE" warning online.
Musk's confirmation came when he responded "Same," to another who announced, "Just cancelled my Netflix subscription."
The movement immediately exploded, with documentation after documentation of the corporation's sex-oriented agenda for children, even drawing criticism from a self-described "gay."
Others warned the corporation had turned Alexander The Great "gay" within minutes of a program's beginning.
It was blasted for having a cartoon boy in a dress dancing with two "dads."
Multitudes were online confirming their cancellations:
Right Angle News network noted, "Netflix is now hemorrhaging tens of thousands of users after refusing to take action against the creator of a show for seven-year-olds that promotes trans ideology following revelations that the creator celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk."
The report pointed out, "Dead End: Paranormal Park" is just one of several pro-LGBTQ+ series and/or movies aimed at a young audience that Netflix has sponsored over the years. Netflix has also produced other content with LGBTQ+ characters or themes, including Baby-Sitters Club, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Nimona, First Kill, CoComelon Lane, and Ridley Jones, a series aimed at preschoolers that features two dads and a non-binary character."
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) gave a dire warning to her fellow Democrats about what she thinks will happen if they give in to Republicans to end a government shutdown without having their demands for $1 trillion in new spending on healthcare met, saying on MSNBC that "there are going to be people that are going to die" without the spending.
Warren threw out a litany of scenarios that she believes would happen under the Republicans' spending plan, which the party called a "clean continuing resolution" that would maintain current spending levels.
She said,
They’re trying to find anything to talk about around the shutdown, to blame it on Democrats so they don’t have to talk about the two thirds of seniors who are in nursing homes, a lot of them with serious health problems, half of them with Alzheimer’s, who can just be pushed out on the street under the Republican bill.
They don’t want to talk about those brand new babies and their mamas who will lose access to health care. They do not want to talk about your neighbor who counts on a home health aide, and who counts on having a wheelchair in order to try to live independently and can lose all of that.
They don’t want to talk about the tens of millions of families who are receiving notices this month saying, here’s where your health care premiums were already too high. Here’s where they’re going to be, thanks to the Republicans.
In reality, Democrats are demanding that $1 trillion in cuts enacted in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July, which was done as a budget reconciliation without Democrat support, be reversed.
The cuts from the OBBBA prevented illegal immigrant asylees and parolees from getting health care subsidies and Medicaid, which was happening before that bill was passed. This is what Republicans mean when they say that Democrats are demanding that illegal immigrants get health care, and they are not wrong about that--it would happen if Democrats get what they want.
Because of some delays, some of the cuts from the OBBBA have only taken effect on October 1, which is why Democrats are claiming that they are new cuts (they are not).
Of course, Democrats in their usual fashion have tried to muddy the waters enough that the average American voter has a hard time understanding the issue, since they don't want to be blamed for shutting down the government over their demands, which are unreasonable for a party out of power.
Warren continued,
They’re going to be people who are going to have to make decisions about whether to make rent or pay for health insurance. They’re going to be people who are just going to let their health insurance go. They’re going to be people who are going to die because of these decisions. And that more than anything else, the Republicans don’t want to talk about. They rather shut down the government than help Americans who are just trying to get their costs under control. I think that is a fight worth fighting, and the Democrats are organized to do it right now.
Warren is not wrong that costs have gone up for some people under the OBBBA. It's possible that it could result in someone's death if they can't get treatment because they can't afford health insurance.
This has been a problem long before the OBBBA. It's an ongoing debate whether health care should be paid for by private citizens and businesses, or provided by the government at a huge cost in taxes. The current system is pretty generous in providing for those in need, but won't satisfy those who think health care is a universal right.
The bottom line here is that Democrats are trying to advance their agenda despite having very little power--a result of the will of the people in the last election. We will see who blinks first, but right now it doesn't look like either side is willing to budge an inch.

A wide range of government services and offices are shut down during the current partial government closure.
The situation developed following demands by Democrats that the government hand out some $1.5 trillion for health care benefits for illegal aliens, leftist propaganda machines, and more.
Republican majorities in Congress declined to take that money out of taxpayers' pockets so Democrats responded by voting against a resolution that would fund the government for a few weeks.
One of the things shut down is the ability to have staff answer public calls to the government, including the White House.
There, a recorded message explains, "Thank you for calling the White House comment line. Hello America, this is White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. Democrats in Congress have shut down the federal government because they care more about funding health care for illegal immigrants than they care about serving you, the American people.
"Until Democrats vote for the clean Republican-backed resolution to reopen the government, the White House is unable to answer your call or respond to your questions.
"We look forward to hearing from you again very soon. In the meantime, know that President Trump will never stop fighting for you."
Such recordings apparently appeared on a multitude of recordings government-wide, sending Democrats into a fury.
Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., sent a letter demanding an investigation.
He complains it's a violation of a rule limiting political activity by government officials.
He pointed out Republicans control the White House and have majorities in both houses of Congress.
He blamed them for not "taking responsibility for their shutdown," and acquiescing to Democrat demands, for which they would have been rewarded with Democrat votes to keep the government running.
Garcia accused the Trump administration of using government sites for their "political agenda."
It was at the Small Business Administration that a template for an out-of-office email said, "I am out of office for the foreseeable future because Senate Democrats voted to block a clean federal funding bill … leading to a government shutdown."
A GOP House Oversight official told the Washington Examiner that the recordings simply state the facts, and do not mention elections or campaigns, suggesting they are perfectly legal.
Under the administration of Joe Biden, then-Education Secretary Miguel Cardona blamed "Republican elected officials" for court rulings in a widely distributed email to student loan borrowers, and that was not ruled to be a violation of the Hatch Act.

A campaign to cancel Netflix services has exploded online after X, Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk condemned the streaming service's efforts to transgenderize children and millions paid attention.

Multitudes were online confirming their cancellations:
Social media commenters turned blunt:
"If I had a subscription, I'd cancel it too. However, I canceled mine about 5 years ago, when they started to promote this trash. This is our CHLDREN (sic) we're talking about – how demonic is this?"
A report at Lifesitenews pointed out the offending program was canceled but still makes it available.
The Libs of TikTok warning has been viewed online tens of millions of times.
"In a related post, Libs of TikTok revealed the creator of the show, Hamish Steele, to be a homosexual who uses the pronouns 'he/they.' In a 2023 interview, he proclaimed, 'I'm gay and actually yes that is my whole personality,'" the report explained.
He proclaimed, at the time, "My hobbies include kissing my husband! And kissing my boyfriend! And watching gay things and reading gay things and hanging out with my gay friends."
Right Angle News network noted, "Netflix is now hemorrhaging tens of thousands of users after refusing to take action against the creator of a show for seven-year-olds that promotes trans ideology following revelations that the creator celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk."

It charged, "In 2020, Netflix produced a movie titled Cuties, which has been widely characterized as 'child pomography.'"
There were multiple reports that Musk could fund a new competitor.
Gateway Hispanic said, "Children who regularly consume this type of content are in a developmental phase where they absorb messages without critical filtering, and presenting narratives that normalize gender changes or non-binary identities may create confusion about their own identity and body. Children deserve to grow up in an environment that respects their innocence, not one that pushes adult ideological agendas. Moreover, Netflix's lack of response to criticism and its decision to keep this content in its children's catalog reflect a disconnect with parental concerns. This revolution, led by Musk and amplified by millions, is not just an economic reaction; it's a defense of family values against corporations prioritizing progressive agendas over children's psychological safety."

Democrats in Congress, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, demanded lavish government spending on projects run by their friends, some $1.5 trillion, during a few weeks of budgeting addressed in a proposed continuing resolution.
The administration of President Donald Trump said the government couldn't and wouldn't afford that, so Schumer, working with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, assembled votes to kill the resolution, leaving the government in partial shutdown.
Now the layoffs are coming.
Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, on Thursday said "thousands" will be laid off if Democrats don't work to reopen the government quickly.
"It's likely going to be in the thousands," she said. "That's something that the Office of Management and Budget and the entire team at the White House here again, is unfortunately having to work on today. These discussions and these conversations, these meetings, would not be happening if the Democrats had voted to keep the government open."
The president already has confirmed a meeting is scheduled with Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought to finalize the total number of layoffs.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has explained the process, and the fact the president has the authority to lay off employees.
"This is the way the system works," Johnson said. "The president takes no pleasure in this. The president did not want a shutdown."
Trump has mentioned the possibility of federal worker layoffs several times, warning Democrats before they pushed for the shutdown that it could happen.
He repeated the warning: "I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent."
He posted the plans on Truth Social.
Johnson said Democrats, in their shutdown of the government, abandoned their responsibility.
"When Congress turns off the funding, and the funding runs out, it is up to the Commander in Chief, the president of the United States, to determine how those resources will be spent," Johnson said.
There already has been confirmation that the president could use the time during a shutdown to make changes in government that can be "irreversible."
A report at Fox News said Trump charged, "I can't believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Trump has underscored, the report said, that "he and his allies did not want the government to shut down, but that it opened the door for some 'good' that could come from it."
Leavitt explained, "To put this all into perspective, the Democrats refused to keep the government open over healthcare to illegal aliens and now have jeopardized critical health care programs for American citizens. Instead, the women, infants and children program, community health center funding, Medicare treatment options and other health programs are now all at risk because of the Democrats rejecting the clean C.R. [continuing resolution]."
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is warning that people “are going to die” if Republicans don’t give in to Democrats’ demands, including free healthcare for illegal immigrants, Breitbart reported. A partial government shutdown went into effect on Wednesday at midnight after lawmakers from both parties failed to reach a deal.
Whenever a government shutdown is on the table, both parties claim the other is to blame, using it to rile up their respective voter bases. This time has been no different as Warren appeared on MSNBC’s The Briefing on Wednesday to slam Republicans over their positions and make the most hyperbolic predictions.
The Massachusetts Democrat dutifully pulled at heartstrings to make her point about the Republicans' refusal to give in to Democrats' demands, including increased spending on healthcare. She had a sympathetic ear with host Jen Psaki, who didn’t push back on anything Warren said as she spewed her talking points.
Warren used the Democrats' old standby lie that Republicans don't care about Americans and thus refused Democrats' demands. "They’re trying to find anything to talk about around the shutdown, to blame it on Democrats so they don’t have to talk about the two-thirds of seniors who are in nursing homes, a lot of them with serious health problems, half of them with Alzheimer’s, who can just be pushed out on the street under the Republican bill," Warren claimed.
"They don’t want to talk about those brand new babies and their mamas who will lose access to health care," said Warren, suddenly caring about babies she'd usually want dead as a pro-abortion politician. "They do not want to talk about your neighbor who counts on a home health aide, and who counts on having a wheelchair in order to try to live independently, and can lose all of that," Warren went on.
"They don’t want to talk about the tens of millions of families who are receiving notices this month saying, here’s where your health care premiums were already too high. Here’s where they’re going to be, thanks to the Republicans," the Massachusetts Democrat continued.
"They’re going to be people who are going to have to make decisions about whether to make rent or pay for health insurance. They’re going to be people who are just going to let their health insurance go. They’re going to be people who are going to die because of these decisions," Warren dramatically predicted.
"And that, more than anything else, is what the Republicans don’t want to talk about. They rather shut down the government than help Americans who are just trying to get their costs under control. I think that is a fight worth fighting, and the Democrats are organized to do it right now," Warren said, completely mischaracterizing the fight.
Like all Democrats, Warren decided that an impassioned speech about all of the horrible things Republicans are doing to the American people was the way to go. Unfortunately for her, what she had to say was all a lie as the truth is that Republicans wouldn't agree to the healthcare spending because they realized it was, in large part, another entitlement for illegal immigrants, Fox News reported.
Just before the shutdown, Republicans charged that Democrats were more interested in giving "free healthcare for illegal immigrants" rather than keeping the government operating for priorities such as paying members of the military. Democrats held out and were willing to let the current budget expire because Republicans wouldn't go along with their handouts to migrants.
Last week, Vice President J.D. Vance said as much in a post to X, formerly Twitter. "Democrats are about to shut down the government because they demand we fund healthcare for illegal aliens," Vance wrote. He was backed up by House Speaker Mike Johnson, who also said Sunday that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer just wanted to "reinstate free healthcare for illegal aliens paid by American taxpayers."
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump reiterated the truth as the deadline loomed large. "They want to have illegal aliens come into our country and get massive healthcare at the cost to everybody else, and we don't have it. And that’s, I would say, the number one reason that they want to strike is to get illegal immigrants’ healthcare," Trump said.
Warren can make these exaggerated predictions and heartrending emotional appeals all she wants, but the truth is out there for anyone with eyes to see. Democrats don't care about the poor or the downtrodden; they just care about giving more free stuff to illegal aliens in hopes that they will someday become Democratic voters.

President Donald Trump confirmed that he now can do things "that are irreversible" to cut government costs after Democrats in Congress refused to give up their spending spree demands.
The government entered a partial shutdown at midnight after the party failed in its insistence that the GOP agreed to hand out $1.5 trillion to Democrats' favorite people.
The trigger for the shutdown was the Democrats refusal to go along with a short-term spending program in the Senate, which was supported by Republicans, and even a Democrat or two.
"We can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them, and irreversible by them," the president confirmed.
The Congressional Budget Office estimated 750,000 federal workers would be furloughed each day, amounting to about $400 million in compensation that is delayed.
That compensation is not paid routinely, but seldom is it lost entirely as Congress almost always grants makeup pay when a shutdown concludes.
Individual agencies and programs that were funded from the president's "Big, Beautiful Bill" just weeks ago maintain their funding.
Members of Congress will continue to be paid.
Republicans are keeping the Senate in session to hold repeated votes on the plan that already has been adopted in the House, where Democrats unsuccessfully opposed it.
Minority Democrats in the Senate successfully shut down the government as the GOP majority needs a few Democrat votes to reach the 60-vote filibuster threshold.
A new New York Times/Siena College survey revealed that only a minority of Democrat voters, 47%, support the closure.
"[Sen. Chuck Schumer's] being held hostage by the liberal wing of the party after he did the right thing in March. He was severely punished," Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, R-Wyo., "They're not thinking ahead of the impact and the damage it's going to do to the American people."
The Washington Examiner reported the deadlock happened because of "Democratic demands to extend expiring enhanced Obamacare subsidies" as well as massive benefits for illegal aliens in the country.
"In a sign of growing division among Democrats, caucus members Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Angus King (I-ME) joined Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) in siding with Republicans," the report noted.
GOP leaders have suggested that eventually there will be enough pressure on Democrats that the needed handful of votes will break with Schumer's shutdown agenda.
Trump already had plans in place, promising to use the time to further shrink the federal workforce and government spending by worker layoffs and rollbacks for government programs.
The expiring enhancement of Obamacare credits was due to the Democrats' own writing of legislation during the COVID-19 panic, when they were created.
"There isn't any substantive reason why there ought to be a government shutdown. This is something that has been done routinely, as I said, 13 different times when the Democrats had the majority. But we are not going to be held hostage for over $1 trillion in new spending on a continuing resolution," Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said ahead of the vote.
Fox reported, "President Donald Trump and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) now have wide discretion over what federal services will remain active."
Democrats insisted on blaming the GOP for the shutdown, demanding additional spending of about $1.5 trillion, including a complete reversal of many components of the "Big, Beautiful Bill" and Congress adopted just weeks ago.
