The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has adopted new rules to ban illegal immigrant students from receiving in-state tuition rates, a move that was taken to comply with a court ruling compelling it to do so.

The Trump administration sued Texas to get the change, saying that parts of its education law conflicted with federal law pertaining to illegal immigrants.

“In direct and express conflict with federal law, Texas education law specifically allows an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States to qualify for in-state tuition based on residence within the state, while explicitly denying resident-based tuition rates to U.S. citizens that do not qualify as Texas residents,” the administration argued.

“No matter what a state says, if a state did not make U.S. citizens eligible, illegal aliens cannot be eligible,” the administration argued. The court agreed.

The agreement

The state entered into a consent agreement in June to end in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, and the rule change will implement that agreement.

“Institutions are responsible for charging a person nonresident tuition beginning with the first academic term that begins after the date the institution discovers that the institution erroneously classified a person as a Texas resident,” the rule stated.

In some cases, it could mean that students will be retroactively charged out of state tuition rates on the Fall 2025 semester.

Immigration groups are, of course, largely opposed to the rule, particularly as it applies to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students, who have existed in a gray area between legal and illegal status for years.

But the board said it is “legally bound by the judgment, as an agency of the State of Texas” and “does not have the authority to permit any other person or institution that may be separately and independently bound by federal law and the Federal Order to delay or avoid compliance.”

DACA students not eligible

The federal order repeatedly said that the Barack Obama-era DACA program is illegal, and can't be the basis for any relief from the new rules.

According to the board, "DACA recipients are not lawfully present and thus ineligible to receive the benefit of Texas resident tuition on that basis.”

Texas has been trying for years to end DACA, and has been joined by 19 other states in doing so.

The closest they have come is the 2023 ruling that vacated DACA and put a nationwide injunction on it.

At any rate, illegal immigrants will no longer be a drain on federal higher education resources in Texas, which is as it should be, DACA or no.

Picture this: two Pennsylvania senators, from opposite political camps, standing together in Washington, D.C., pleading for an end to a crippling government shutdown.

Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat, and Sen. Dave McCormick, a Republican, made this striking display on Thursday, cutting through partisan noise with a unified call for action, Breitbart reported. It’s a rare moment of sanity in a capital often paralyzed by division.

As the shutdown stretches into its 23rd day, its impact on Pennsylvania families has become impossible to ignore, prompting this bipartisan stand.

Earlier this week, Fetterman didn’t mince words on Fox News, declaring, “It’s wrong to shut our government down.” He’s spot-on—shutdowns are a reckless political stunt that punish everyday folks like federal workers and SNAP recipients. When a Democrat risks party backlash to speak this truth, the crisis is clearly severe.

Senators Rally for Pennsylvania’s Relief

The seeds of this joint effort were sown as the shutdown’s damage grew undeniable. Fetterman had already cautioned on CNN in September that such gridlock sparks “massive chaos” for no valid purpose. His outspokenness has drawn ire from some Pennsylvania Democrats, who are even whispering about a 2028 primary challenge, yet he remains steadfast.

McCormick, the first-term Republican, is equally resolute in highlighting the human toll. He pointed to struggling air traffic controllers, border patrol agents, and two million Pennsylvanians dependent on SNAP benefits. These aren’t just numbers; they’re real lives disrupted by D.C. dysfunction.

The duo amplified their message through a joint social media video, a direct appeal for common sense. McCormick noted they’ve each voted 12 times to reopen the government, proving they’re not just posturing. This transcends party lines—it’s about delivering for their state.

Shutdown Hurts Families, Not Politics

In their video, Fetterman emphasized, “Our votes are about country over party at this point.” He stressed the plight of two million SNAP recipients facing uncertainty if this persists. That’s not a minor issue; it’s a lifeline for countless households.

McCormick reinforced the urgency, stating, “Pennsylvanians expect it. Pennsylvanians deserve it.” If only more leaders could shelve ideological battles for the sake of constituents’ basic needs.

Let’s face it—bipartisanship shouldn’t be shocking news, but in today’s hyper-polarized climate, it’s a breath of fresh air. When progressive policies or rigid party loyalty derail governance, seeing Fetterman and McCormick align feels like a quiet rebellion against the status quo.

Real People Bear the Cost

Fetterman’s recent actions have stirred debate within his own ranks. He’s supported some Republican initiatives since the new administration began, including the Laken Riley Act, arguing it’s all for Pennsylvania’s benefit. While this has frustrated some Democrats, prioritizing state over party seems like a defensible choice.

Shouldn’t we applaud leaders who bridge divides rather than vilify them? Shutdowns expose the folly of inflexible partisanship, especially for federal employees left without paychecks through no fault of their own.

McCormick, too, refuses to play party games on this issue. His push to reopen the government before debating tax credits reflects a practical mindset missing in much of Washington. Pennsylvanians aren’t clamoring for drama; they want results.

Can Congress Break the Deadlock?

The senators’ plea is straightforward: end the shutdown first, then tackle other debates. It’s a logical stance in a city often allergic to reason. If two opposing voices can sync on this, surely others in Congress can follow suit.

The stakes for Pennsylvania couldn’t be higher as this crisis drags on. Families don’t care about political point-scoring; they need stability and a government that functions. Fetterman and McCormick grasp this, even if too many in D.C. seem oblivious.

Ultimately, this bipartisan push is a reminder of what governance should be. It’s not about left or right; it’s about right and wrong—and leaving the government shuttered is simply wrong. Let’s hope Congress takes note before more damage is done.

Canada just found out the hard way that misrepresenting and/or disrespecting the late, great President Ronald Reagan is not a wise move, at least not while President Donald Trump is in the White House.

According to Breitbart, President Trump announced an extra 10% tariff on Canadian imports, "saying Canada aired a deceptive advertisement using altered audio and video of former President Ronald Reagan to undermine his administration’s tariff policy."

Trump announced that Canada had been caught "red-handed" using altered and out-of-context clips of Reagan, which didn't sit well with him, to say the least.

The anti-tariff commercial aired during the World Series, which was enough for Trump to levy the extra tariffs on America's neighbor to the north.

What's going on?

Breitbart noted:

The advertisement, produced by the government of Ontario, featured Reagan appearing to denounce tariffs, prompting an immediate response from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.

President Trump, in his response to the situation, cited the respond from Reagan's institute.

Breitbart added:

In his Truth Social post, Trump cited a statement from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute that said that Canada had “created an ad campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan,” and that the material “misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address.”

Notably, the institute added that Canada “did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks” and was “reviewing its legal options."

"The sole purpose of this FRAUD was Canada’s hope that the United States Supreme Court will come to their ‘rescue’ on Tariffs that they have used for years to hurt the United States," Trump wrote.

He added, "Now the United States is able to defend itself against high and overbearing Canadian Tariffs (and those from the rest of the World as well!). Ronald Reagan LOVED Tariffs for purposes of National Security and the Economy, but Canada said he didn’t!"

Social media reacts

Many Canadians were angry at its country's leadership over the ad, which will cost them.

"Undiplomatic morons are in charge of this country," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "And more adds are coming from other Canadian premiers. I for one don’t understand what their strategy is, but if I were Canadian I would think it’s beyond reckless. Trump Admin officials are basically fed up with Canada."

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) officers are being harrassed and even attacked at an unprecedented rate, and President Donald Trump's administration is making it clear that it has a zero-tolerance policy on the matter.

According to Breitbart, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi made it crystal clear this week to several high-profile Democrats that she will not tolerate anything that puts ICE officers and their families in danger.

One of the Democrats who received a letter stating as much was none other than former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker also received a warning from the AG.

The Democrats were warned that they face arrest should they attempt to impede ICE officers from doing their jobs, or making their identities public.

What's going on?

In recent days, Democrats have threatened to expose the identities of ICE agents who are simply performing their assigned duties, putting them and their families at great risk. Bondi isn't having it.

“You cannot disclose the identity of a federal agent, where they live [or of] anything that can harm them," Bondi said last week as she warned Democrats to cool it.

AG Bondi added, "Pelosi got a letter today from Deputy Attorney General Toddd Blanche. So did Brooke Jenkins, that DA [District Attorney] in San Francisco."

Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli also issued a warning regarding exposing the identities of ICE agents or otherwise putting them in immediate danger.

"We will not tolerate threats to arrest federal agents engaged in enforcing immigration laws enacted by Congress," said Essayli. “If you touch our agents, you’ll be arrested."

Pelosi issued a particularly nasty warning to federal agents, claiming California could arrest them if the state deems it necessary.

"While the president may enjoy absolute immunity courtesy of his rogue Supreme Court, those who operate under his orders do not," Pelosi wrote in a statement. “Our state and local authorities may arrest federal agents if they break California law — and if they are convicted, the president cannot pardon them."

Social media reaction

Many on social media commented on the ongoing fight between the Trump administration and TDS-ridden Democrats.

"If these politicians want to go to jail, put them in jail. It’s one thing to play negative politics, it’s completely different to endanger the safety of law-enforcement," one X user wrote.

Fed-up with California's issuance of commercial driver's licenses to illegal migrants, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy on Sunday said the federal government is on the verge of yanking $160 million from the Golden State.

"I'm about to pull $160 million from California," Duffy said on "Sunday Morning Futures" on the Fox News Channel, "and as we pull more money, we also have the option of pulling California's ability to issue commercial driver's licenses."

Duffy said the state's governor, Democrat Gavin Newsom who announced Sunday his interest in the presidency, "cares more abut illegals getting commercial driver's licenses than he does the citizens of his own state and the safety of Americans."

"It's shameful. He's been lying about what he's been doing. And again we're gonna fight tooth and nail under President Trump's administration to make sure that we hold states like California accountable."

Duffy explained there's a "non-domiciled CDL" that allows Americans who reside in one state to be issued a license from another.

"But you're an American citizen," he stressed. "Democrats have contorted this rule, they've abused the rule, and they have now allowed foreigners to get a non-domiciled CDL."

Duffy indicated 60,000 of such licenses have now been issued to people who are not in the country legally and are putting citizens at risk on the roadways.

"So you have 60,000 people on the roads who shouldn't have licenses. They 're driving fuel tankers, they're driving school buses," he said.

"Gavin Newsom has thumbed his nose at us."

Bartiromo also brought up the point that these illegal aliens could be able to cast votes in American elections using their driver's licenses as identification.

"If you're an illegal, you shouldn't have a license," Duffy stated, adding 'there could be some kind of identifier [on a driver's license] that shows you're not a citizen."

"This is the corruption that happens inside of Democrat states."

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is under fire this week for granting commercial driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, is now making no secret he's interested in following Donald Trump as the next American president.

Appearing on "Sunday Morning" on CBS, Newsom answered positively when asked about his White House ambition.

"Yeah, I'd be lying otherwise. I'd just be lying. And I'm not – I can't do that," Newsom said.

"I'm looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets that moment, and that's the question for the American people."

When asked about the specific reason he wants to be president, Newsom did not directly answer the question.

"I think the biggest challenge for anyone that runs of any office is people see right through you if you don't have that why. You doing it for the wrong reasons," he explained. "Look, fate will determine that."

"I happen to, and thank God, I'm in the right business," Newsom added when asked about his thrill in meeting South Carolina Democrats. "I love people. I actually love people."

During the interview, Newsom blasted Trump as "an invasive species … for the country, for the world. He's a wrecking ball. Not just the symbolism substance of the East Wing [of the White House], he's wrecking alliances, truth, trust, tradition, institutions."

In a separate interview, Newsom opined that efforts to fight wokeness in America are simply "anti-black."

"I mean they're rewriting history, censoring historical facts. It's an unf***ing-believable moment," he indicated.

"All this anti-woke stuff is just anti-black. Period. Full stop. All the CRT, ESG, DEI stuff, that's all this is. It's this great urge and it's happening in real time."

Jim Hoft at the Gateway Pundit slammed Newsom for his "failed leadership" in the Golden State, calling him "the man who presided over a mass exodus of businesses, rising homelessness, skyrocketing crime, and record-setting taxes."

Hoft posted a list of "several major crises that have unfolded in Gavin Newsom's tenure as governor of California, according to California Senate Republicans:"

10. Homelessness – The latest data shows California is home to America's most homeless despite spending more than $20 billion of taxpayer dollars under Newsom's leadership. The homeless crisis continues to spiral out of control.

9. Drought – California is being pummeled by several atmospheric river storms, yet we lack the water storage to capture it. Newsom has not delivered one extra drop of water to farmworkers and farmers in the state as California crops are being devastated because of the drought.

8. High Gas Prices – As a benefactor of the Getty oil money fortune, our dear governor has proposed a so-called "Windfall Profits Tax" on the state's gasoline industry in the name of lowering gas prices. In fact, Newsom's proposal would only hike up the cost of gasoline at the pump.

7. Early Release of Convicted Felons – Through an Executive Order, the governor's California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation made it easier for thousands of convicted felons to be eligible for early release with little transparency.

6. Education Failures – According to statewide test scores released by the California Department of Education, 2/3 of California students failed to meet Math standards and more than half of California students did not meet the state's English standards.

5. Businesses Fleeing California – Stanford University Hoover Institution Study reveals that businesses are leaving the state twice as fast as years prior. Businesses forced to flee are taking revenue, jobs, and opportunities with them.

4. EDD – Newsom ordered California's businesses to shut down leaving hundreds of thousands of Californians unemployed. In a disorganized scramble to get out unemployment benefits, Newsom's Employment Development Department sent out $33 billion in unemployment fraud. The number may be higher.

3. French Laundry Scandal/NFL Luxury Suite Scandal – During the coronavirus surge, Newsom attended a swanky dinner at the expensive French Laundry even though he discouraged Californians from traveling during the holidays and partied maskless in an NFL Luxury Suite despite state masking orders. Rules for thee but not for me, right governor?

2. Wildfire Prevention Efforts – An investigation from CapRadio and NPR's California Newsroom found the governor overstated, by an astounding 690%, the number of acres treated with fuel breaks and prescribed burns. Newsom claimed that 35 "priority projects" were carried out as a result of his executive order which resulted in 90,000 acres being treated. But the state's own data shows the actual number was only 11,399 acres.

1. High-Speed Rail – In his first State of the State remarks in 2019, Newsom declared his intentions to pull the plug on the massive public works failure known as the High-Speed Rail. Since then, he has flip-flopped and has been pouring billions of taxpayer dollars into this money pit.

A federal judge has ordered the top official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection to appear in court to respond to a Chicago lawsuit over immigration enforcement, ABC News reported. District Judge Sara Ellis has called CBP field operations leader Greg Bovino to attend a status hearing on Tuesday over the so-called "Operation Midway Blitz" in the Windy City.

As President Donald Trump sends federal agents to America's cities to clean up the rampant illegal immigration and crime problem, leftists are at the ready to make sure that doesn't happen. This has taken the form of punishing agents through legal action.

Bovino is expected to answer a lawsuit brought by demonstrators and journalists who allege that he used tear gas "without justification." This standard was set by Ellis, who previously issued a temporary restraining order preventing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and CBP agents from using non-lethal action without proper "warning and justification."

However, Bovino's defenders point out that rioters were throwing rocks and other projectiles at Border Patrol agents as they were conducting official immigration business in the Little Village section of the city. Bovino was even struck in the head by one, though he did not sustain serious injury.

Self Defense

Most sane people would contend that anyone under attack from a crowd has more than enough justification to deploy tear gas. Indeed, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said as much, noting that they had also been warned before the detonation.

"Border Patrol agents repeated multiple warnings to back up and that chemical agents would be deployed if warnings were ignored. Riot control measures were deployed, including by Chief Bovino, and arrests were made," McLaughlin said in a statement on Friday.

"Agents properly used their training. The use of chemical munitions was conducted in full accordance with CBP policy and was necessary to ensure the safety of both law enforcement and the public," McLaughlin added.

This has become necessary after a massive increase in attacks against ICE agents, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in August, according to Fox News. Noem noted that they "are now facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them as they risk their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens."

Meanwhile, Noem charged that these "acts of violence are fueled by sanctuary politicians' rhetoric vilifying our law enforcement," which has come mainly from Democratic politicians and pundits. "We will not and have not let this violence stop us or slow us down. Every day our law enforcement continues to enforce the law and arrest the most depraved criminals, including pedophiles, terrorists, murderers, gang members, and sexual predators," Noem said in a social media post.

Political Attacks

While Bovino and other federal agents are literally dodging projectiles, politicians like Illinois Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker are launching political attacks against the agents. On Thursday, the governor signed an Executive Order, using his newly minted Illinois Accountability Commission to track alleged civil rights abuses by federal enforcement agents.

Pritzker said that the "unlawful attacks" in Operation Midway Blitz have prompted this move. "They are attacking people on the ground — ICE, CBP — going after people just because they're Brown or Black," Pritzker claimed without evidence.

"No one above them is holding them responsible. Greg Bovino, who is running the operation in Chicago, isn't holding them accountable," Pritzker claimed, calling out Bovino by name.

"No one is. So we're going to have to keep a record," he added.

Dragging federal agents into court because they defended themselves against the hordes of rioters is unconscionable. This is an attack on the rule of law by the people who run these places that are overrun with criminals and individuals who are in the country illegally.

At 88, Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District of Columbia’s non-voting delegate in the House of Representatives, has become the unfortunate target of a brazen scam that raises serious questions about vulnerability and public service, the New York Post reported.

Representing D.C. since 1991, Norton was deceived by fraudsters posing as HVAC workers who charged over $4,000 to her credit card without performing any work, while conflicting reports about her cognitive health—ranging from police notes on early dementia to denials from her office—add a troubling layer to this incident.

On a Thursday afternoon, shortly after 3:30 p.m., multiple scammers arrived at Norton’s Washington, D.C., home under the guise of being HVAC technicians.

Fraudulent Charges and a Missing Appointment

Believing the visit was arranged by her house manager, Norton handed over her credit card, resulting in a staggering $4,362 charge for services that were never rendered.

Her house manager, a longtime employee and friend who does not live with her, later reviewed Ring doorbell footage and confirmed no appointment had been scheduled, prompting a swift call to the D.C. police.

While Norton’s office insists she has no caretaker, the absence of anyone to oversee the situation during the scammers’ visit left her exposed to this felony fraud, which remains under investigation with suspects still at large.

Police Report Sparks Health Controversy

An internal police report, obtained by NBC News4, described Norton as suffering from “early stages of dementia” in the victim information section, a claim that has ignited debate about her capacity to serve.

Her office quickly pushed back, stating, “The medical diagnosis included in the police report was based on an assumption the reporting officer was unqualified to make,” dismissing the assertion as unprofessional and unfounded (NBC News4).

Meanwhile, the public incident report from D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department made no mention of any health concerns, leaving the public to wonder where the truth lies in this sensitive matter.

Concerns Over Mental Acuity Mount

Friends and colleagues, as reported by The New York Times earlier this year, have observed signs of mental decline in Norton, noting her infrequent attendance at House Oversight Committee meetings and difficulty recognizing familiar faces.

They’ve described her as increasingly reliant on aides, family, and close friends, unable to function independently—a stark contrast to the image of a steadfast public servant.

Yet, when asked by Axios last month about her plans, Norton firmly declared, “I say that my seniority is what is very important, and I am not going to step aside,” signaling her intent to run for re-election despite these growing concerns (Axios).

Balancing Seniority with Public Trust

While Norton’s decades of service deserve respect, this incident and the surrounding whispers of cognitive decline beg the question: At what point does personal determination clash with the public’s need for effective representation?

Her office assures everyone that she is safe, the fraudulent charges have been reported to both the police and her bank, and they’ve thanked the Metropolitan Police Department and Capitol Police for their response, declining further comment.

Still, as conservatives who value accountability over feel-good narratives, it’s fair to wonder if staying in office past one’s prime serves the people—or simply a progressive agenda that prioritizes optics over pragmatism.

While Democrats keep the government in shutdown mode, hardworking U.S. troops and other federal workers are at risk of not receiving their paychecks, but luckily, President Donald Trump is working overtime to change that.

According to the New York Post, the president dropped a bombshell this week about an anonymous $130 million donation to the Pentagon from a "friend" of President Trump to help offset the costs of paying the troops during the shutdown.

The Pentagon confirmed the donation, saying it received it through its "general gift acceptance authority."

President Trump was able to find unused research and development funds to make sure that troops were paid during their Oct. 15 pay period.

What's going on?

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell released a statement regarding the staggering donation.

“On Oct. 23, 2025, the Department of War accepted an anonymous donation of $130 million under its general gift acceptance authority,” Parnell said.

He added, "The donation was made on the condition that it be used to offset the cost of service members’ salaries and benefits. We are grateful for this donor’s assistance after Democrats opted to withhold pay from troops."

Some legal experts have expressed concerns that the administration might not be legally able to use the money to pay troops, at least without congressional authorization.

"The department is welcome to acknowledge this donor’s intent, but that does not change the legal restrictions on Congress needing to appropriate funds to pay military salaries," said Romina Boccia, director of budget and entitlement policy at the libertarian Cato Institute.

Still a long way to go

While the number is staggering for most, it still won't cover nearly enough to ensure all troops get paid.

Reportedly, it takes about $6.5 billion per pay period to get members of the military their paychecks, so $130 million, compared to that number, is only good for about one-third of a day's pay, surprisingly.

Still, the gesture is amazing and it simply highlights how stubborn and goofy Democrats are being in refusing to open up the government so our troops get what's rightfully theirs.

It'll be interesting to see if any additional private donors come forward to help offset costs.

President Donald Trump has abruptly terminated trade talks with Canada over a deceptive ad that used Ronald Reagan's words to attack Trump's protectionist agenda, the Daily Mail reported.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford released the ad, which selectively quotes a 1987 speech that Reagan gave defending so-called free trade.

"When someone says, 'Let's impose tariffs on foreign imports,' it looks like they're doing the patriotic thing by protecting American products and jobs," the 40th president says. "And sometimes for a short while it works, but only for a short time. But over the long run, such trade barriers hurt every American, worker and consumer."

Out of context

It is true that Reagan was a staunch critic of tariffs in general, but the ad leaves out the context of his remarks, which related to his imposition of duties on Japanese electronics.

In the speech, Reagan argued that tariffs have limited uses, but in the long term, they "inevitably" lead to market contractions and unemployment.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute has called the Canadian ad misleading and has threatened legal action.

"The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks," the group tweeted Thursday.

Trump ends talks

In a Truth Social post, Trump announced that he is terminating trade negotiations because of Canada's "egregious behavior."

Trump accused Canada of peddling a "fake" ad to influence a pending Supreme Court decision on his tariffs.

"The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED."

Canada under pressure

The abrupt cessation of trade talks has blindsided Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has spent months negotiating with Trump and trying to get on his good side.

During a sit-down at the White House this month, Carney praised Trump as a "transformative president" and rattled off some of his achievements.

Trump raised tariffs on Canadian imports to 35% in July, in addition to sector-specific tariffs on things like steel and cars, placing enormous pressure on Canada's export-dependent economy.
