PALM BEACH, Florida – Both Bill and Hillary Clinton are refusing to appear before the U.S. Congress to testify in connection with the sordid case of convicted Palm Beach pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, according to a member of the House Oversight Committee.

U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., made that assertion Monday afternoon, stating: "Bill and Hillary Clinton are refusing to appear before House Oversight for their depositions regarding Jeffrey Epstein."

"Notice how House Democrats suddenly have nothing to say about it," the congresswoman added.

On Monday, President Donald Trump again directly tied Bill Clinton to Epstein, saying, "All of [Epstein's] friends were Democrats. You look at this Reid Hoffman, you look at Larry Summers, Bill Clinton, they went to his island all the time, and many others. All Democrats."

This comes on the heels of Trump's Truth Social post on Friday, where he named the same names, saying, "Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his 'Island.' Stay tuned!!!"

With Former President Clinton being potentially connected to Epstein by Trump with last week's release of more emails, Clinton spokesman Angel Ureña stated in a brief statement on X: "These emails prove Bill Clinton did nothing and knew nothing. The rest is noise meant to distract from election losses, backfiring shutdowns, and who knows what else."

As WorldNetDaily reported earlier Monday, after initially calling people urging the release of files on convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein "stupid" and "foolish," Trump has pulled a 180 and is now making a fresh call to make all the files public.

In a lengthy Truth Social post Sunday night, Trump said: "House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and it's time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party, including our recent Victory on the Democrat 'Shutdown.'

"The Department of Justice has already turned over tens of thousands of pages to the Public on 'Epstein,' are looking at various Democrat operatives (Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, Larry Summers, etc.) and their relationship to Epstein, and the House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to, I DON'T CARE!

"All I do care about is that Republicans get BACK ON POINT, which is the Economy, 'Affordability' (where we are winning BIG!), our Victory on reducing Inflation from the highest level in History to practically nothing, bringing down prices for the American People, delivering Historic Tax Cuts, gaining Trillions of Dollars of Investment into America (A RECORD!), the rebuilding of our Military, securing our Border, deporting Criminal Illegal Aliens, ending Men in Women's Sports, stopping Transgender for Everyone, and so much more! Nobody cared about Jeffrey Epstein when he was alive and, if the Democrats had anything, they would have released it before our Landslide Election Victory.

"Some 'members' of the Republican Party are being 'used,' and we can't let that happen. Let's start talking about the Republican Party's Record Setting Achievements, and not fall into the Epstein 'TRAP,' which is actually a curse on the Democrats, not us. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"ADVERTISEMENT

Trump's new position on the files is the exact opposite of his stance in July, when he unleashed a furious tirade against his own supporters who sought the files, saying he no longer wants their support.

Copies of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence used by students in the Anchorage, Alaska, school district have been slapped with a surprising disclaimer.

Now school officials are explaining it all was a "mistake."

According to a report from the Anchorage Daily News, images were posted online of a Hillsdale College handout of the Declaration and the Constitution, with the label attached that read, "The Anchorage School District does not endorse these materials or the viewpoint expressed in them."

A district official has a reason.

MJ Thim, a district official, explained in an email the stickers are meant to clarify the difference between "official district information" and materials from outside sources.

"This was our mistake. The request that came in wasn't for a flyer or poster and shouldn't have been processed through that system. We will be following up directly with the requestor to make things right," Thim said, according to ADN.

"The U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence are an important part of what students learn social studies," Thim wrote. "These founding documents are taught in every school and reflect the values we want every student to understand."

Hillsdale is a private liberal arts school in Michigan, and donates the booklets.

"Alaska's Attorney General appointee Stephen Cox is the treasurer on the board of directors for Thomas More Classical School, a Hillsdale-affiliated K-6 private school set to open in Anchorage next fall. Cox is also listed as a co-founder and past board president of the school," the report said.

Cox said on social media, said, "something has gone terribly wrong."

"A disclaimer saying the school district doesn't endorse these documents can only confuse students, by implying their own school won't stand for the first principles of our Republic. It raises important questions, and we'll get the answers," Cox said.

The College Fix said a student noticed the disclaimer, and showed it to her mom, who wrote on social media, "I was honestly stunned. These aren't controversial documents, they are the foundation of our country and what our students are supposed to be learning about. Why would a school need to distance itself from the very principles we are built on?

"I fully support transparency in education and just want to understand this policy better. Parents deserve clarity. If outside materials are being sent home, especially involving American founding documents, the messaging should be thoughtful and not confusing to families."

While many on the political left, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson, have trouble defining what a woman is, now video is emerging of the head of Michigan's schools having extreme difficulty stating how many genders exist.

Footage posted by LibsofTikTok shows Michigan State Superintendent Sue Carnell being asked directly: "How many genders are there?"

LibsofTikTok notes: "She draws a complete blank then refuses to answer when asked this simple question. This is the person responsible for Michigan kids' education. Crazy as hell."

When pressed again with the same question, Carnell finally proffered a response that did not specifically answer the question, as she replied: "Different people have different beliefs on that."

Her questioner fired back: "Well you can believe all you want, but science says there's two."

The video comes as the Michigan State Board of Education last week approved a new sex-ed curriculum for K-12 "which includes radical gender ideology and teaches that kids can be born in the wrong body," according to LibsofTikTok.

The Detroit Free Press reports the sexual health topics by grade include:

  • In grades 3-5 the draft standards address puberty-related and personal hygiene issues.
  • In grades 6-8, the draft standards address gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, explaining that "they are distinct components of every individual's identity."
  • The standards also guide educators to explain that emotional, romantic and/or sexual attraction to individuals of the same or different genders can change over time.
  • Standards also recommend explaining the benefits of abstinence, decision-making that aligns with an individual's family values and strategies for reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STI).
  • In grades 9-12, the draft includes standards for students to analyze outside influences on a person's beliefs about sexual behavior and discussion over why it is illegal to coerce or trick someone into sexual activity, the importance of STI treatment and testing.
  • They also include discussion over fostering empathy and respect around issues related to sexuality and gender.Education officials stress parents still have the option to remove their children from the sex education without any penalty.

Some reaction online to Carnell's evasive response includes:

"If you can't even acknowledge such a basic reality as biology, why should you be entrusted to teach kids anything more complicated? This is the bedrock foundation of thought, and kids aren't even being taught it. No wonder students are struggling so much."

"I am reading a lot into her facial expression, and I am no expert, but she seems to be telegraphing that she knows the answer is two, but she also knows she cannot say that. This is how fear works."

"She can't answer because the question is biological, and her job is purely ideological. The left has installed activists, not educators, to run our schools. Her silence isn't confusion; it's the paralysis of a cult member whose dogma just crashed into reality. She is in charge of education but is a living testament to the failure of her own radical agenda. This is the goal: to destroy truth and replace it with this exact, incoherent, crazy-as-hell nonsense."

Brace yourselves, Charlotte—federal agents are rolling into town with a mission to tackle public safety threats tied to unauthorized migration, and the sparks are already flying.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has kicked off a major immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte, N.C., deploying additional law enforcement to address what they call serious risks to the community, while local leaders cry foul over the fear and uncertainty it’s stirring among residents, Just The News reported.

This all started heating up on Thursday when Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden got word from federal officials that U.S. Customs and Border Patrol personnel would arrive in Charlotte either Saturday or early next week. The heads-up was a nod to collaboration, but the suddenness of it all has left many on edge. What’s the plan, and who’s really being targeted?

Federal Surge Sparks Local Backlash

Saturday marked the official start of these operations, as confirmed by DHS, with Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin doubling down on the need to protect Americans from what she sees as dangerous elements. “Americans should be able to live without fear of violent criminal illegal aliens hurting them, their families, or their neighbors,” McLaughlin stated, as reported by The Associated Press. But let’s be honest—painting this as a simple safety fix ignores the messy reality on the ground.

Local officials aren’t buying the “public safety” line without question. Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, County Commissioner Mark Jerrell, and school board member Stephanie Sneed issued a joint statement saying, “We want people in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to know we stand with all residents who simply want to go about their lives.” It’s a noble sentiment, but when federal boots hit the pavement, platitudes won’t calm the nerves of a city with over 150,000 foreign-born residents among its 900,000-strong population.

Even Sheriff McFadden, while welcoming better communication with federal partners, seems to be walking a tightrope. He’s emphasized the need for trust and safety in Mecklenburg County, but with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department explicitly sitting this one out, it’s clear not everyone’s on board with DHS’s playbook.

Community Trust Under Strain

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein dropped a bombshell on Friday, pointing out that the “vast majority” of those detained in these sweeps have no criminal convictions, and some are even U.S. citizens. That’s a far cry from the narrative of rounding up hardened threats. If true, it raises serious questions about the scope and precision of this operation.

Governor Stein didn’t stop there—he’s urged residents to document any overreach by authorities and report it to local law enforcement. It’s a subtle jab at federal tactics, suggesting the state isn’t fully confident in how this crackdown will play out. And in a city as diverse as Charlotte, that lack of confidence could fray community bonds faster than you can say “paperwork error.”

Let’s not pretend this is happening in a vacuum. The Trump administration has been ramping up efforts nationwide to combat violent crime and unauthorized migration, with National Guard troops deployed to cities like Chicago, Washington, D.C., Memphis, and Los Angeles. While courts have blocked similar moves in Portland, Charlotte’s now the latest battleground in this broader push.

Balancing Safety and Humanity

Assistant Secretary McLaughlin’s rhetoric about ensuring safety is hard to argue against in principle—who doesn’t want safer streets? But when the net catches folks with clean records or even citizenship, it starts looking less like precision and more like a sledgehammer approach. The administration needs to show its homework on who’s really a threat.

Local leaders are right to worry about the ripple effects of fear in a community where so many have ties abroad. Charlotte isn’t just a dot on a map; it’s a vibrant hub where trust between residents and authorities matters. Sweeps like this, if mishandled, risk turning neighbors into suspects overnight.

On the flip side, ignoring public safety concerns tied to unauthorized migration isn’t an option either. The challenge for DHS is proving this operation isn’t just political theater but a targeted effort to address real risks. So far, the jury’s out, and Charlotte’s residents are left waiting for answers.

What’s Next for Charlotte?

The clash between federal priorities and local values isn’t new, but it’s playing out in real time on Charlotte’s streets. With the police department stepping back from immigration enforcement, the burden of perception falls squarely on DHS to avoid missteps. Transparency, not just muscle, will be the key to keeping this from spiraling.

For now, Governor Stein’s call to record any inappropriate behavior by authorities is a reminder that accountability cuts both ways. If federal agents overstep, they’ll have more than just local leaders to answer to—they’ll face a public armed with smartphones and skepticism. That’s a modern reality no badge can ignore.

As this operation unfolds, Charlotte stands as a microcosm of a national debate over how to handle immigration without sacrificing community or safety. The Trump administration’s hardline stance may resonate with those fed up with lax borders, but it must tread carefully to avoid alienating the very Americans it claims to protect. Here’s hoping for clarity—and calm—in the days ahead.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday part of the reason beef prices have been soaring in America is due to the invasion of illegal aliens during the Biden administration, claiming many migrants brought diseased cattle with them.

Appearing on "Sunday Morning Futures" with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox News Channel, Bessent was reacting to a statement by Omaha Steaks CEO Nate Rempe, who predicted: "By third quarter of '26, families are going to see $10-a-pound ground beef in the grocery store."

Bessent said: "The beef market is a very specialized market. It goes in long cycles, and this is the perfect storm again, something we inherited.

"And there's also, because of the mass immigration, a disease that we'd been rid of in North America, made its way up through South America as these migrants they had brought some of their cattle with them."

"So part go the problem is we've had to shut the border to Mexican beef because of this disease called the screwworm. So we're not gonna let that get into our supply chain."

According to the Centers for Disease Control, "New World screwworm is a species of parasitic fly that can cause myiasis and feeds on live tissue. It primarily affects livestock, but it can also infest people."

When asked how long before Americans would feel an impact of reining in the overall cost of living, Bessent replied: "I think we're going to see a substantial acceleration in the economy in the first [and] second quarter [of 2026]."

"I think Americans are gonna feel it in the first quarter, second quarter. I think 2026, thanks to President Trump's signature plans, is gonna be a great year for working Americans, for the markets. I call it parallel prosperity. Main Street and Wall Street can both do great but I think Main Street's gonna have a great year in 2026."

Meanwhile, tariffs are being removed from several household items not generally produced in the United States, including coffee, cocoa and bananas, and Bessent said he expects prices on those items to drop.

"This is a complete trade policy," he explained. "Now we are going to see it affect the prices."

Bessent also made a bold prediction about the U.S. Supreme Court's upcoming ruling about President Trump's tariffs.

"This is one of President Trump's signature policies, and traditionally the Supreme Court does not interfere with a president's signature policy," he explained.

"I would push this back on the Supreme Court. I don't think this ruling is gonna go against us, but if it does, what's their plan for refunds?" Bessent added.

"I don't think the Supreme Court wants to wade into a mess like that."

The Treasury secretary was also asked about a Wall Street Journal report suggesting China was already reneging on its agreement to provide the U.S. military with rare-earth magnets.

"We haven't even finished the agreement," Bessent said.

"I am confident they will honor their agreement, and if they don't we have lots of levers."

Asked if one of those levers were to remove China from U.S. financial markets, Bessent responded: "All options are on the table but I believe we will have to go into this believing [Chinese] President Xi will keep his agreements."

Hold onto your steering wheels, folks—California’s latest scandal is a highway disaster waiting to happen.

According to Breitbart, a bombshell audit by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has uncovered that California, under Gov. Gavin Newsom, illegally handed out 17,000 Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) to foreign truck drivers who fail to meet federal safety standards.

The saga began with whispers of noncompliance, but it wasn’t until this week that the DOT, led by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, dropped the hammer with hard evidence of unlawful activity at California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Uncovering California’s Dangerous Licensing Scandal

After weeks of California officials denying any missteps, the audit confirmed that these 17,000 licenses were issued in violation of federal rules, putting public safety at risk.

Secretary Duffy didn’t mince words, pointing out that these drivers are “dangerous and unqualified to drive semi-trucks.”

One has to wonder if California’s leadership thought federal standards were just a polite suggestion, rather than a mandate to keep our roads safe.

Revocations and Funding Cuts Hit Hard

As a direct result, the DOT is revoking all 17,000 of these improperly issued CDLs, giving the affected foreign drivers a 60-day notice that their licenses will expire.

This isn’t just a slap on the wrist; the DOT has also withheld more than $40 million in federal funds from California for failing to comply with critical safety regulations.

Apparently, ignoring federal English Language Proficiency standards for CDL holders comes with a hefty price tag—both in dollars and in trust.

Duffy Calls Out Newsom’s Oversight Failures

Secretary Duffy, who discussed the issue last week in an interview with Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief, has been relentless in holding California accountable.

“After weeks of claiming they did nothing wrong, Gavin Newsom and California have been caught red-handed,” Duffy declared.

That’s a polite way of saying someone’s been asleep at the wheel, and it’s not just the unqualified drivers.

Public Safety Takes Center Stage

Duffy also promised a deeper dive, stating, “Now that we’ve exposed their lies, 17,000 illegally issued trucking licenses are being revoked. This is just the tip of the iceberg.”

“My team will continue to force California to prove they have removed every illegal immigrant from behind the wheel of semitrucks and school buses,” he added. It’s a firm stance on ensuring that only qualified individuals are navigating our highways and transporting our children.

While some may cry foul over the harsh measures, the core issue remains: public safety must trump political posturing, and federal standards aren’t optional, even in a state as defiant as California. Let’s hope this wake-up call steers Newsom’s administration back onto the right road, because the American people deserve better than bureaucratic recklessness masquerading as progressive policy.

Hold onto your hats, folks—Indiana’s Republican-dominated state Senate just threw a curveball by refusing to redraw congressional maps, even with President Donald Trump breathing down their necks.

This bombshell decision, announced on Friday, means the Hoosier State won’t be reshuffling its districts before the 2026 midterm elections, despite intense White House lobbying, the New York Post reported

The saga kicked off months ago when pressure started mounting from Trump and his team, pushing Indiana lawmakers to craft new maps that would tilt heavily in favor of Republicans for the upcoming congressional races.

Pressure Mounts from White House Insiders

Vice President JD Vance even made two trips to Indianapolis to twist some arms, while legislative leaders got a personal sit-down with Trump in the Oval Office.

Despite holding a supermajority in both chambers, Indiana Republicans—whose congressional delegation currently stands at seven to two over Democrats—found themselves split on the issue.

Some party members argue that with Democratic states sporting near-total blue delegations, Indiana should play hardball and aim for an all-Republican map, while others worry about the political fallout or question the ethics of such a move.

Senate Standoff Halts Redistricting Push

Governor Mike Braun, a fellow Republican, tried to force the issue last month by calling for a special session to get a vote on new districts.

Instead of a special session, lawmakers opted for an unusual move—starting the 2026 regular session early in December—but that plan has now been scrapped by the Senate.

Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray dropped the hammer on Friday, declaring that his caucus simply doesn’t have the votes to push redistricting through, with more than 15 of the 40 Republican senators standing in opposition.

Voices of Opposition Speak Out

“Over the last several months, Senate Republicans have given very serious and thoughtful consideration to the concept of redrawing our state’s congressional maps,” Bray stated. “Today, I’m announcing there are not enough votes to move that idea forward, and the Senate will not reconvene in December.”

Well, there you have it—Bray’s statement is a polite but firm slap to the administration’s ambitions, signaling that even in a red state like Indiana, not every Republican is ready to march lockstep with a gerrymandering agenda that could alienate voters.

State Sen. Kyle Walker, another Republican, echoed this sentiment on Thursday, noting that “the overwhelming majority of his constituents are against” redistricting, which guided his decision to oppose it. Talk about listening to the folks back home—Walker’s stance shows that grassroots voices can still cut through the noise of D.C. power plays.

Broader Implications for Congressional Balance

While the Indiana House reportedly has the votes to support new maps, it remains uncertain if they’ll even convene in December without the Senate on board, further dimming the prospects of a redraw before the early February filing deadline for congressional races.

Across the country, the stakes are high—Democrats need just three seats to flip control of the U.S. House, and redistricting battles are heating up in states like Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio on the Republican side, while California and Virginia see Democratic efforts to redraw lines.

Back in Indiana, this Senate decision might just be the final nail in the coffin for now, as U.S. Rep. Andre Carson, a Democrat from Indianapolis, celebrated the news, suggesting it’s game over for redistricting—at least until the political winds shift again. For conservatives who value fair play over short-term gains, this pause might be a quiet victory against overreach, even if it frustrates some in the party’s upper echelons.

An Oregon school district has agreed to pay $650,000 to settle with two educators who were punished, then fired, for speaking out against the injurious transgender agenda the district was adopting.

The trans ideology as promoted by Joe Biden and his administration for years includes giving chemicals to children to delay puberty, then doing mutilating body surgeries on the child.

Grants Pass, Ore., educators Katie Medart and Rachel Sager had launched a grassroots movement called "I Resolve" to speak out on a school gender identity education policy, and to offer alternatives that would allow teachers to continue teaching without submitting their religious beliefs to the social agenda.

And one that would respect the rights of parents to know what their children were being given in school.

They posted a video on their own website promoting their beliefs and efforts.

Subsequently, Grants Pass School District 7 officials suspended them, then fired them.

"Educators are free to express opinions on fundamental issues of public concern—like gender identity education policy—that implicate the freedoms of teachers, parents, and students," said Mathew Hoffman, of the ADF, which represented the teachers along with the Pacific Justice Institute.

"The Grants Pass School District is taking the right step by acknowledging that teachers don't give up their First Amendment rights when they set foot on school property. Public schools can't retaliate against speech simply because they disagree with what's said."

Sager and Medart have worked in the education field for many years, including at North Middle School in Grants Pass. Sager served as assistant principal, and Medart taught science there, the legal teams explained.

Their legal action charging the school violated their free speech, religious freedom and equal protection rights was settled with the district agreeing to pay $650,000 in damages and attorneys' fees.

And the school is issuing a public statement acknowledging that the teachers' wrongful termination fell short of its standards and responsibilities, providing positive letters of recommendation for both, and revising the district's policies and practices to comply with the First Amendment.

The case had been headed for trial, which the district avoided by reaching the settlement, after the usually far-left 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in the teachers' favor by partly vacating a lower court's decision for the school, and ordering a trial to be held.

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican, is proposing a plan that would "END the mass replacement of American workers" by dumping the federal H-1B visa program, which corporations long have used to replace U.S. workers with foreigners who work for far lower salaries.

Greene made the announcement online, "I am introducing a bill to END the mass replacement of American workers by aggressively phasing out the H-1B program. Big Tech, AI giants, hospitals, and industries across the board have abused the H-1B system to cut out our own people."

She continued, "Americans are the most talented people in the world, and I have full faith in the American people. I serve Americans only, and I will ALWAYS put Americans first. My bill ELIMINATES the corrupt H-1B program and puts AMERICANS FIRST again in tech, healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, and every industry that keeps this country running!! If we want the next generation to have the American dream, we must stop replacing them and start investing in them."

A report at the Hill said Greene's plan would allow up to 10,000 H-1B visas to be awarded annually for certain positions, like physicians, but even that could be phased out.

Greene explained the visa program was set up to "fill a specialty occupational need at a given time. People should not be allowed to come and live here forever. We thank them for their expertise, but we also wish them well so they may return to their own country."

Greene charged the H-1B program is replete with "fraud and abuse."

President Donald Trump largely has agreed with such an assessment, but of late has leaned toward reforms of the system, rather than elimination.

He has taken dramatic action to address the problems, including imposing a $100,000 fee on those applying for the visas.

The Georgian said, "It's time to put American citizens first instead of foreigners first, and this has gone on and been an abuse for far too long," Greene said. "Americans deserve a future. They deserve a chance."

Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden has confirmed that President Donald Trump's administration will deploy U.S. Customs and Border Protection to Charlotte, North Carolina, the Washington Times reported. McFadden was told by two officials that federal immigration enforcement would show up in North Carolina's largest city on Saturday.

Trump has already sent the National Guard and other federal agents into cities that refuse to enforce immigration law. This happened in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., after the Democrat-majority governments decided to flout federal immigration law.

Now it appears that Charlotte, which is also a Democratic-run metropolis, will become the latest to receive such treatment, though the Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin would not confirm that fact when asked. "Every day, DHS enforces the laws of the nation across the country," she said Thursday.

We do not discuss future or potential operations," McLaughlin added. However, local officials are now bracing for impact as federal agents make their way to the southern city that has a population of 150,000 foreign-born people.

Inciting Incident

Trump has cited the killing of Ukrainian immigrant Iryna Zarutska as evidence that the crime problem is out of control in the city and needs to be addressed at the federal level. The 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death with a pocket knife on a Lynx Blue Line light rail in August by Decarlos Brown Jr., Fox News reported.

Brown now faces the death penalty after the man with a robust criminal record was allowed to roam the streets of the city to allegedly commit the random attack on the unsuspecting victim. This horrific attack never should have happened except that law enforcement is severely lacking.

Now, Trump has decided to use his power to clean up the illegal immigration problem, and that has outraged many in the city. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has already claimed that its hands are tied as it "has no authority to enforce federal immigration laws," but others are objecting to Trump's plans to send agents who do have that power.

Rather than banding together to eliminate the crime problem, faith leaders, activists, and officials are warning illegal immigrants of what's coming. They have taken to sharing information that could help them evade law enforcement, including a conference call organized by CharlotteEast that drew 500 participants on Wednesday.

The organization's executive director Gerg Asciutto told residents that they should network with each other and organizations that will help them through the crackdown. "The purpose of this call was to create a mutual aid network," City Councilmember-Elect JD Mazuera Arias said.

Hysteria

There is already a sense of foreboding and hysteria about supposed plainclothes agents infiltrating. Pro-illegal immigration groups, such as Indivisible Charlotte and the Carolina Migrant Network, are sharing tips on spotting federal agents and will teach volunteers about their rights during these interactions.

"They’re not always wearing vests that say ‘ICE,'" Indivisible Charlotte spokesman Tony Siracusa warned. He also said that residents are "not freaking out, but definitely concerned" about what's to come for the city.

Meanwhile, groups are also considering whether to plan potential "pop-up protests," but are concerned about agitators being arrested. Of course, opposition to immigration enforcement comes with the usual narrative about who will be targeted and what will happen if illegal immigrants are arrested.

Daniela Andrade, communications director at the Carolina Migrant Network, said that a local Hispanic heritage festival was canceled for fears of targeting and that others are going into hiding. "It’s the concern of family separation, of being removed from a community where many people have lived here for years," Andrade said.

Nobody wants to see people suffer or families separated, but these illegal immigration crackdowns are meant to remove criminals from city streets. While some individuals who enter the U.S. without proper documentation may be hard-working, they are also lawbreakers who have jumped the line ahead of others who followed the rules. That's not only wrong, it's also criminal.
