President Donald Trump promised during the 2024 presidential cycle that he would dedicate everything possible to squashing former President Joe Biden's chaotic border situation.

That's exactly what has happened so far, and according to Breitbart, even some Democrats, like Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), believe that Trump is doing a good job because he's using the "right policy" to help control the border situation.

Cuellar, being a native Texan, has often angered his own party for his stance on the immigration crisis. It's understandable that he would be on the side of most Americans since he represents a sector of Texas that has been devastated by the illegal immigration crisis.

While most Democrats are blindly against Trump's border policies, there are a few reasonable ones that are willing to speak up on behalf of their constituents.

What did he say?

The Texas Democrat admitted that the numbers at the border are dropping, and unlike most people in his party, Cuellar said that it's a direct result of Trump's border policies.

Cuellar said, “President Trump is using the right policy, no catch and release," when describing why he thinks the numbers at the border have drastically dropped.

That's night and day compared to former President Joe Biden, whose "catch and release" strategy led to some of the highest border crossing numbers in U.S. history.

Cuellar also talked about the various border and immigration provisions in President Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill," noting that disagreed with
Biden's approach to the border, which led to a sustained spike in border crossings for years.

“Look, the numbers have gone down without building any more border wall. … Because you’ve got to look at a confluence of things. You’ve got to have the right policies.

He added, "And President Trump is using the right policy, no catch and release, that Biden, I disagreed, because he did catch and release. You’ve got to get Mexico and other countries to stop people before they come over. So, the numbers have gone down."

“Now, do we need to have more Border Patrol agents? Yes. More technology? Yes. River roads, carrizo cane eliminations," he added.

Pushing forward

While most Democrats aren't interested in telling the truth about the border situation, Cuellar has proven otherwise.

Much like Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), Cuellar isn't afraid to break ranks with his party, no matter the cost.

Trump's border policies are working, and it's becoming more difficult for Democrats and the media to deny that.

There's no limit as to what lengths the left-leaning establishment media will go to in order to attack and harass members of the Trump administration, and DNI Tulsi Gabbard just revealed bombshell proof of that.

According to Breitbart, Gabbard revealed this week that Washington Post reporter Ellen Nakashima has allegedly harassed members of her staff, sending shockwaves through Washington, D.C.

Even if half of the accusations Gabbard revealed are true, the WaPo reporter should be in a world of trouble, as they've allegedly gone way too far in attempting to obtain sensitive information.

Gabbard said in a statement that the reporter has used "burner phones" and other deceptive practices to gain information from members of the ODNI staff.

What's going on?

DNI Gabbard wrote in a bombshell social media post that she believes the reporter has repeatedly harrassed her staff, and provided plenty of details.

"@nakashimae appears to be actively harassing ODNI staff. Instead of reaching out to my press office, she is calling high level Intelligence Officers from a burner phone, refusing to identify herself, lying about the fact that she works for the Washington Post, and then demanding they share sensitive information," Gabbard wrote.

She continued, "Apparently, publishing leaked classified material wasn't enough for the Washington Post, so now they’ve decided to go after the Intelligence professionals charged to protect it."

Gabbard went on to describe the situation as a "political op."

She concluded that the outlet should be "ashamed," demanding that the paper's management "put an end" to the situation immediately.

Social media reaction

Users across social media had plenty to say about the situation.

"She and her entire family (every generation available) should be arrested and stripped of citizenship. Summarily deporting journalists is the simple solution," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Sounds like grounds for arrest."

Only time will tell if the reporter in question will face any consequences if the allegations are true.

"President Trump's One Big, Beautiful Bill delivers on the commonsense agenda that nearly 80 million Americans voted for – the largest middle-class tax cut in history, permanent border security, massive military funding, and restoring fiscal sanity," explained White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

"The pro-growth policies within this historic legislation are going to fuel an economic boom like we've never seen before. President Trump looks forward to signing the One Big, Beautiful Bill into law to officially usher in the Golden Age of America."

Her comments came minutes after the House of Representatives passed 218-214 the "One Big Beautiful Bill."

"Again and again, Democrats tried to block historic tax relief, increased border security, higher wages, an expanded Child Tax Credit, No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, No Tax on Social Security, savings accounts for newborns, and so much more — but again and again, President Trump and Republicans fought and won for the American people," the statement said.

Signing is scheduled for Friday.

A major provision is one that strips "forced taxpayer funding of the Big Abortion industry."

"Defunding the abortion industry, led by Planned Parenthood, marks the greatest pro-life victory since the Dobbs decision. For the first time in history, Congress is halting forced taxpayer funding of Big Abortion in the Medicaid program for one year. This will save lives and strip over $500 million from Big Abortion's coffers. Combined with last week's Supreme Court decision empowering states to do the same, this represents tremendous progress toward achieving a decades-long goal that has long proved elusive," said SBA Pro-Life America chief Marjorie Dannenfelser.

""For decades, Big Abortion has siphoned off billions in tax dollars to prop up a scandal-ridden industry built on abortion and partisan politics. Planned Parenthood alone commits over 400,000 abortions a year while services like cancer screenings continue to plummet — all while pocketing over $2 million every day from taxpayers."

"The American people should not have to continue subsidizing the abortion industry – and now, thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, they won't be," said Jennie Bradley Lichter, president of March for Life Action. "We joyfully anticipate President Trump signing this landmark legislation, which ensures that Americans' hard-earned tax dollars are not being used to prop up an industry whose business model is built on ending human lives, misleading pregnant women into thinking that abortion is their only option, and delivering substandard healthcare that they then charge to the government.

"For years the majority of Americans have said they reject this status quo. Women deserve better – America deserves better – and we thank President Trump, Speaker of the House Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader Thune, as well as all of the other pro-life champions in Congress who brought this bill across the finish line."

Carol Tobias, of National Right to Life, added, "We applaud pro-life members in Congress and pro-life leadership, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, for keeping their promises to the American people and delivering a bill that prevents taxpayer funds from subsidizing the abortion industry. For decades, Americans have made it clear that they do not want their tax dollars funding abortion. Today, Congress delivered.:"

Other organizations and groups had specific comments about how they are affected.

Consumer Energy Alliance President David Holt said, "This legislation unleashes affordable, reliable and cleaner energy for families and small businesses across the country, and gives the U.S. the edge in the global AI race by ensuring that always-on, reliable baseload power like nuclear and natural gas can be developed at speed and scale.

"Critically, this bill ensures offshore lease sales for Gulf of America and Alaska, which were intentionally delayed and drowned in red tape under the Biden Administration. That kept money out of the U.S. Treasury and Gulf States, and impeded the ability for companies to appropriately plan future energy development."

Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., said, of the "huge victory, "This legislation addresses many of the legislative priorities that President Trump promised to Americans during his campaign for President. Although the bill is not perfect, as none are, nor does it include several provisions of the original House version, I voted in favor of the largest tax cut in history, ending the Biden-era invasion of our southern border, and reducing wasteful and abusive spending of taxpayer dollars.

"Americans are tired of having a government that they are afraid of, and want a government they can be proud of. This Reconciliation package scales back the size and scope of federal agencies, cuts red-tape, brings more accountability, and cuts fraud, waste, and abuse. This bill is a good start, but Congress still has a lot of work to do; as we must continue to move back to a government that is small in size, limited in scope, and dedicated to preserving the rights and liberties of the American people.

"Last November, voters gave the President and Congress an unprecedented mandate to govern, and to tackle the very challenges that this bill addresses. With this historic legislation, Americans will be keeping more of their hard-earned money and paying less for food and fuel, while enjoying a level of safety not seen in years, as our southern border becomes more secure. With President Trump's signature, the Big, Beautiful, Bill will usher in the Golden Age of America and put our great country back on the path to prosperity."

Article III Project founder Mike Davis said, "This is an historic and monumental victory for President Trump—and real Americans in real America. And a major loss for Trump's opponents and doubters. Trump sealed his standing as one of America's most consequential presidents. And his second term is just getting started."

Democrats and other leftists universally blasted it.

"This is a direct attack on the health and well-being of low-income individuals and families," said Mara Youdelman of the National Health Law Program. "The bill cuts nearly a trillion dollars from Medicaid. It will force states to slash eligibility and services, causing individuals to lose coverage and communities to lose the providers they depend on. And all of this is done to fund tax breaks for corporations and the ultrarich."

Joseph Geevarghese, of Our Revolution, organized originally by leftist Bernie Sanders, claimed, "Republicans have passed the most dangerous legislation of our lifetimes. This bill hands billionaires and corporations a trillion-dollar tax break, paid for by ripping health care from 17 million people, gutting funding for rural hospitals, slashing clean energy investments, and cutting food assistance for millions of children."

He charged it is the "largest transfer of wealth from working- and middle-class Americans to the ultra-wealthy in our nation's history."

The National Nurses United union went to extremes, claiming, "Lawmakers have effectively signed the death warrants for millions today. It will steal money from safety-net community hospitals and reproductive health care clinics, like Planned Parenthood. It will kick people off their health insurance. It will effectively punish people for getting sick or injured, making us all sicker and less healthy."

The lawfare schemes assembled against President Donald Trump while he was in office, and then during the four years before his second term, likely have no equal.

He was charged in an organized crime count, he was accused of fraud when the "victims" said they'd like to do business with him again, he was accused of fomenting insurrection, he was accused of misstating business costs by labeling legal fees legal fees, he was hit with a SWAT team raid over paperwork disagreements.

The lawfare goal was clear: Not just to try to dissuade him from running for a second term, which Democrats feared, but to actually find a way to put him in jail to guarantee that result.

Now one senator has promised to name names of those involved in the schemes.

Some already are known. Letitia James, New York's attorney general who now is under investigation herself for fraud, was one. So was Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg. Several judges were in on it.

But all will be revealed, according to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa.

According to a report at the Gateway Pundit, he said, "I'm going to make sure as chairman of this committee, by listening to whistleblowers, getting documents that have been kept from Congress of the United States, I'm going to make sure that everybody is exposed and the documents prove it for the eight years that the opposition was trying to put President Trump in prison."

He said, "What we're doing, whether we had Republican or Democrat administrations over my years in the United States Congress, this President and his appointees to the Department of Justice and the FBI have given us the first real cooperation that we should have had under both Republican and Democratic Presidents before. But it was just obfuscate and cover up and not let the truth out because it's going to be embarrassing.

"So we're getting some whistleblowers their jobs back. We are releasing documents because I want everybody who had anything to do since President Trump went down that golden elevator in 2015 have been trying to get him out of the presidency or when he was out of the presidency, getting into prison."

He said, "We don't have to put up with that in America. President Trump hadn't put it in America. And I want to thank President Trump and his administration for helping me make this stuff more transparent and never see that it happens again.

In fact, even during Trump's first campaign, the Hillary Clinton campaign worked with a former British agent, a legal team and a campaign advising team to fabricate the Steele Dossier which made all sorts of wild allegations about Trump.

The claims later were debunked entirely.

A report released Wednesday reveals intelligence agencies were aware that the Steele Dossier was not credible when they launched an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, the Daily Caller reported. This fact vindicates President Donald Trump's innocence in a scandal that should never have occurred.

Under then-President Barack Obama, the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment included the narrative about Russian collusion with Trump, even though analysts knew the information was not credible. The assessment conducted by the ICA in June revealed this information.

According to the review, many high-level CIA officials were aware that the Steele Dossier did not meet the standards typically used for such evidence. They "strongly opposed" its inclusion in the assessment, but they were overruled.

The Central Intelligence Agency’s Directorate of Analysis has determined that John Brennan, then the head of the CIA, was responsible for including the dossier in the review knowing the problems it had. "The decision by agency heads to include the Steele Dossier in the ICA ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment," the review found.

Several Issues

The 2017 ICA assessment asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin sought "to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability." Putin also allegedly had a "clear preference for President-elect Trump," according to the erroneous evidence.

However, this narrative should never have gained traction, as it was clear that there were several issues with the Steele Dossier. What's worse is that Brennan didn't seem to care despite being aware of them.

"CIA’s Deputy Director for Analysis (DDA) warned in an email to Brennan on 29 December that including it in any form ‘risked the entire credibility of the paper.' Despite these objections, Brennan showed a preference for narrative consistency over analytical soundness," the review said.

Seasoned operatives shared their misgivings, but Brennan apparently was "more swayed by the Dossier’s general conformity with existing theories than by legitimate tradecraft concerns." The June review noted the problems were glaringly obvious.

"The DA Review identified multiple procedural anomalies in the preparation of the ICA. These included a highly compressed production timeline, stringent compartmentation, and excessive involvement of agency heads, all of which led to departures from standard practices in the drafting, coordination, and reviewing of the ICA," it concluded.

Targeting Trump

The review was a long time coming, and the Trump-appointed CIA Director John Ratcliffe commissioned it now that a Republican is back in office. The results showed that the intelligence agencies under Obama were targeting Trump.

“This was [President Barack] Obama, [FBI Director James] Comey, [Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper and Brennan deciding ‘We’re going to screw Trump.' It was, ‘We’re going to create this and put the imprimatur of an IC assessment in a way that nobody can question it,'" Ratcliffe said.

Despite these bombshell revelations, Republican Arkansas Rep. Rick Crawford complained that the review wasn't thorough enough. "The CIA’s self-review of its 2016 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian Election Interference falls FAR SHORT of the full truth," Crawford said on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday.

"It is abysmal CIA would put out a memo with half-truths, inaccuracies, and blatant omissions about the full extent of the Russia hoax and the deep state’s role. Even worse, they released this report while holding the Intel Committee’s report on the same issue hostage for 7 years," Crawford added.

Trump claimed all along that his opposition unfairly targeted him in 2016 and beyond. Now that the president has been vindicated in a significant way, it still remains to be seen whether anything will change, given the apparent corruption in the intelligence community.

A drive-by shooting in Chicago took the lives of four people and wounded more than a dozen others outside of a nightclub Wednesday night, the Washington Post reported. The gunman is still at large as police attempt to determine whether this was a gang-related incident or a targeted attack.

Officials are still trying to piece together the circumstances of the attack but have little information to go on. The shooting occurred outside of the Artis Restaurant and Lounge on the South Side of Chicago.

At the time, an album release party was happening for rapper Mello Buckzz. It's unclear whether there was any connection to the artist, and Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling shared that there were no suspects to date.

Snelling encouraged anyone with information to call the police department so they may track down any leads. He assured the public that the police would be out in "full force" during the Independence Day weekend.

A Deadly Pattern

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, just ahead of the Independence Day holiday. The whole ordeal only took seconds, but 18 people were shot after someone in a dark-colored vehicle sprayed bullets on a crowd congregating outside of the nightclub.

Police said the four who were killed included two women, aged 26 and 27, and two men, aged 24 and 25, but did not release their names. The other 14 victims who were shot, ranging in age from 21 to 31, were taken to various area hospitals for treatment.

"Currently, our detective division is working extremely hard to get to the bottom of this. We as a Chicago Police Department want to make sure that we bring justice to these families, but we also want to make sure that we take individuals with this violence and this character off the streets," Snelling said.

Following the shooting, police have ordered the establishment to close. This is not the first time such an incident occurred in the exact spot, as Bendand Reilly, alderman of the 42nd Ward, recalled.

Just a few years ago, a similar shooting happened in front of a now-defunct nightclub, Hush, which was located in the building Artis now occupies. That nightclub was closed, and Reilly imposed a moratorium on liquor licenses there to keep another club from opening with the same problems. Unfortunately, Artis found a workaround, which Reilly now blames for the incident.

Deadly Trend

Artis apparently got around the lack of liquor license by branding itself as a "BYOB" restaurant, which means customers could bring their own liquor. Reilly blames the establishment and said it was "dishonest with the City about their plans for the venue and have now contributed to a devastating act of violence, just weeks after opening as a BYOB 'restaurant,'" the alderman charged.

"Despite early assurances from the new restaurant owner that this venue would support local artisans, foster inclusivity, and serve as a hub for connection, creativity, and joy, the owners decided to turn over their venue to promote a new rap album release," Reilly said in a statement. The owners of the establishment released a statement about the incident but didn't take responsibility.

“Artis was created as a safe space. A space where Black, Brown, Queer, and allied communities could gather, be celebrated, and feel at home in River North. We’ve always led with that mission," the owners wrote on Thursday.

"And what happened last night disrupted it in the most painful way. Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones," they added. Mello Buckzz also released a statement Thursday on social media, stating it made him "feel like everything is just weighing down on me ... . All i can do is talk to god and pray."

Chicago is a deadly place, and this act of violence took out several people who were just getting together for a good time. This is common in cities run by Democrats, but the blame continues to go around.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has released a review fiercely criticizing the inclusion of the Steele dossier in the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The review, commissioned by current CIA Director John Ratcliffe, argues that several key decisions by intelligence officials during the Obama administration damaged the credibility of the assessment against Donald Trump, who was president at the time, as the Daily Caller reports.

Obama-era intelligence leaders pushed for the controversial Steele Dossier to be part of the key assessment concerning Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The inclusion of this dossier, heavily reliant on open sources and compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele for opposition research firm Fusion GPS, faced considerable criticism from within the CIA itself.

Review highlights credibility concerns

Notably, then-CIA Director John Brennan was instrumental in ensuring the dossier's inclusion, despite several warning signals by CIA personnel. Analysts warned against using the Steele dossier due to non-compliance with standard intelligence practices and concerns over its substance.

The CIA’s deputy director for analysis cautioned Brennan against including the dossier in an email dated December 29, 2016. It was highlighted that incorporating it might jeopardize the entire assessment's reliability, as noted in the recent review findings.

The dossier insinuated a conspiracy involving Trump’s 2016 campaign and the Kremlin. While many agency staff members were opposed to relying on it, the full extent of influence and implications continued to unravel over the years.

Intelligence practices under scrutiny

The newly released review points out several shortcomings in the design and preparation process of the 2017 ICA. These shortcomings included an expedited timeline, limited information sharing, and an unusual degree of agency head involvement, all considered deviations from established norms in the drafting and review processes.

Ratcliffe, in an interview with the New York Post, asserted that Barack Obama, alongside officials like then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and Brennan, seemed to be intent on damaging Trump's standing. According to Ratcliffe, these moves were steered more by the narrative the dossier supported than by intelligence rigor.

Despite heavy objections internally, the 2017 report determined that Russia had favored Trump and aimed to sow distrust in the American electoral system. This conclusion has since been a focal point of heated political discourse surrounding the integrity of the 2016 election.

Report release stirs debate

Rep. Rick Crawford criticized the CIA's review as falling significantly short of a comprehensive account of the Russian election interference narrative and the alleged deep state involvement. Crawford, speaking on behalf of congressional oversights, expressed frustration at the review's inadequacy in conveying the complete narrative they perceived.

Furthermore, more concern was raised regarding the restrictions placed by the CIA on accessing a related report assembled during the 116th Congress. Crawford emphasized the necessity of making such documentation available to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Devin Nunes initially led efforts to produce this report during the 116th Congress, with Crawford noting continued resistance from the CIA. Despite extensive dialogue with the agency, access remains restricted, obstructing further congressional review.

Calls for transparency emerge

Crawford detailed his attempts to retrieve the document, having formally written to Director Ratcliffe in March 2025. His letter insisted on transferring the congressional document to HPSCI without delay.

As tensions over access and transparency ensue, these calls underscore a broader issue of comprehensive oversight over intelligence assessments and the political fabric to which they connect.

With the CIA's review now public, the debate over the dossier's impact on historical and contemporary political landscapes persists. The broader implications for relations between political entities and intelligence agencies continue to unfold.

House Rep. Andy Ogles (TN) is calling for President Donald Trump to serve a third term in office after the House passed the "Big, Beautiful Bill."

The passage of Trump's bill is a milestone of his historic career in national politics, which began just over 10 years ago with the promise to "Make America Great Again."

While Trump's second term is just starting, Ogles says the president deserves another four years to continue his mission.

"I was at the White House with President Trump for several hours yesterday and spent countless hours whipping votes with Speaker Johnson for the One Big Beautiful Bill.

This historic legislation will unleash our economy and usher in a new golden age for America," Ogles told Fox News Digital.

Trump notches epic achievement

The bill's passage has sent Trump's critics into throes of despair, while supporters are ecstatic. Indeed, Ogles has gone so far as to suggest that Trump should be added to Mt. Rushmore.

"Thanks to President Trump, we’re finally reversing the damage caused by Big Government and Democrat cronies. Wins like this are exactly why he deserves serious consideration for a third term—AND why so many believe he belongs on Mt. Rushmore," Ogles said.

The "Big, Beautiful Bill" is the kind of achievement that eluded Trump during his first term, when he had yet to dominate the Republican party and relied on executive orders to advance his agenda. Joe Biden was able to easily reverse Trump's border policies, sending America into Third World chaos.

After an epic struggle, and against all odds, Trump is back in office and more powerful than ever before. He has the GOP under his thumb and, for the first time ever, a major policy achievement that will endure.

The "Beautiful Bill" locks in funding to complete Trump's signature border wall, dramatically expands immigration enforcement, and makes Trump's 2017 tax cuts permanent. It also adds the new temporary tax breaks that Trump promised on the campaign trail, like no tax on tips.

Expanding presidential legacy

In January, Ogles proposed an amendment that would allow Trump to serve a third term. As Ogles put it at the time, Trump is the "only figure" capable of putting America back on the path to greatness.

"He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,” Ogles said in January, proposing the amendment.

Trump has toyed with the idea of running for a third term before, but he is governing like this is his last chance to leave a mark. The speed and scope of his reforms have been revolutionary, as even his worst critics will readily admit.

With the "Beautiful Bill," Trump has taken a huge step toward sealing his legacy, but there's more work to be done. If Trump can achieve the rest of his goals, he will go down as one of his country's greatest and most transformational presidents.

The U.S. Supreme Court has added to President Donald Trump's winning streak with another favorable decision on immigration.

The court's lopsided 7-2 ruling rebuked a Biden-appointed judge who tried to stop Trump from deporting a group of hardened, foreign criminals to South Sudan.

The case centers on Trump's efforts to rapidly deport illegal aliens to "third countries" where they have no ties. The controversy deals in particular with eight convicted criminals who were sent to Africa with minimal due process.

Supreme Court smackdown

In April, a district court judge blocked the Trump administration from removing aliens to third countries without notice. The Supreme Court lifted the injunction in late June, but the district judge, Brian Murphy, claimed that the Supreme Court's ruling did not apply to a separate court order shielding eight men in Djibouti from being sent to South Sudan.

The Trump administration cried foul, accusing Murphy of defying the highest court in the land, and asked the justices to clarify their June ruling.

Now, the court has plainly spoken: Murphy is wrong. This means Trump can proceed with sending the eight men, who are being held at a U.S. base in Djibouti, to South Sudan.

"Our June 23 order stayed the April 18 preliminary injunction in full. The May 21 remedial order cannot now be used to enforce an injunction that our stay rendered unenforceable," the court wrote in a brief unsigned order.

The ruling is a significant win for Trump, as it empowers him to deport aliens whose home countries refuse to take them back. The eight aliens in this case have been convicted of graphic crimes like murder and rape.

"These sickos will be in South Sudan by Independence Day," DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Newsweek.

Kagan agrees

The Supreme Court's liberals have focused on human rights concerns, warning that aliens could face torture once deported to unstable countries where they don't know anyone.

Two of the court's liberal justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson, joined in a dissent.

"What the Government wants to do, concretely, is send the eight noncitizens it illegally removed from the United States from Djibouti to South Sudan, where they will be turned over to the local authorities without regard for the likelihood that they will face torture or death," said Justice Sotomayor.

Justice Elena Kagan wrote a short concurring opinion in which she expressed disagreement with the justices' June ruling, but she said the district court was nevertheless out of line to continue enforcing an order that the Supreme Court voided.

"I do not see how a district court can compel compliance with an order that this Court has stayed," she wrote.

A young man from Massachusetts was shot dead in Washington D.C. just after starting his summer internship for a Republican congressman.

21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym was caught in the middle of an incident of street violence Monday night. He died at a hospital the next day.

The college senior had recently joined the staff of Kansas Rep. Ron Estes (R-KS), who shared his condolences in a statement.

"I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone who entered our office with a cheerful smile," Estes said in a press release. "We are grateful to Eric for his service to Kansas' 4th District and the country."

The authorities have a grainy video of the shooting, which began as an "altercation" between two groups of individuals, one of whom was also shot, a 16-year-old male. Tarpinian-Jachym was caught in the crossfire, along with an adult female bystander.

Republican intern killed

The female victim is in stable condition, and the teenage victim is being treated for a damaged spine. Police confirmed that Tarpinian-Jachym was not an intended target. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital Tuesday.

According to police, the suspects emerged from a vehicle and started shooting at a second group outside the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Police believe the teenage victim was involved in the exchange, the Washington Post noted.

The killing occurred on a street corner in Shaw, a rough neighborhood in the generally affluent northwestern quadrant of D.C., which contains many of the city's safest and most desirable areas.

“We believe the two groups had an [earlier] altercation that did not result initially in gunfire,” D.C. Police Chief Pamela A. Smith said at a press conference.

Police have recovered the suspects' black Acura, but no arrests have been made yet. The police are offering $25,000 to anyone who can help them bring the perpetrators to justice.

Crime problem plagues capital

The senseless killing highlights a continued crime problem in the nation's capital, where some members of Congress and their staffs have been victimized in brutal, random attacks.

There were 274 homicides in 2023, the city's highest murder rate in 25 years. While violent crime has fallen since then, the city has a long way to go: Tarpinian-Jachym was the 85th homicide victim this year, just a slight drop from 89 at the same time last year.

At a press conference Thursday, Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser refused to comment on whether the intern's killing would spur political change. “Let’s stay on July Fourth,” she said.

Tarpinian-Jachym was a senior at University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was majoring in finance with a minor in political science. Lilliana Myers, who met him in a fellowship program with the conservative Fund for American Studies, said Tarpinian-Jachym was fun and ambitious.

“I think D.C. is a city full of people that are very ambitious, and you see that with a lot of interns,” but Tarpinian-Jachym “had a personality underneath; you could tell he was a genuine person," she said.
