In early September, a federal judge appointed by former President Joe Biden ordered President Donald Trump and his administration to pay out roughly $4 billion in foreign aid funds that they had held back.
However, the defeat was short-lived, as the U.S. Supreme Court this week temporarily halted the early September order from U.S. District Judge Amir Ali, allowing the Trump administration to continue to hold back the funds, the Daily Caller reported.
The high court added that the ruling was its "preliminary review" of the case and that it wasn't determined on "merits."
Regardless, the ruling marks another crucial Supreme Court victory for President Trump, who has relied on the high court to combat the judical activism seemingly on display in the federal judiciary.
The Supreme Court explained in its ruling why it decided to allow the funds to be held back by the Trump administration.
"[O]n the record before the Court, the asserted harms to the Executive’s conduct of foreign affairs appear to outweigh the potential harm faced by respondents,” the Supreme Court’s order read.
"This order should not be read as a final determination on the merits," it added. "The relief granted by the Court today reflects our preliminary view, consistent with the standards for interim relief."
Not surprisingly, the three liberal justices on the high court dissented.
Justice Elena Kagan wrote in her dissent, "I appreciate that the majority refrains from offering a definitive view of this dispute and the questions raised in it."
She added, "But the effect of its ruling is to allow the Executive to cease obligating $4 billion in funds that Congress appropriated for foreign aid, and that will now never reach its intended recipients."
The Trump administration, specifically Solicitor General John Sauer, explained why it needed the high court's help in the matter in its emergency application.
"To have any hope of complying in time, the Executive Branch would have to immediately commence diplomatic discussions with foreign nations about the use of those funds—discussions the President considers counterproductive to foreign policy—and notify Congress about planned obligations that the President is strongly opposing," Sauer wrote.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration wrote that the federal judge's ruling was "a grave and urgent threat to the separation of powers."
It'll be interesting to see where this case ends up and which side gets the win.
Four sources close to the matter claim that top military brass is crafting plans to strike at Venezuelan drug traffickers at the source in the South American nation, NBC News reported. This would escalate action already taken by President Donald Trump's administration against the illicit drug trade that funnels its poison from Venezuela into the U.S.
Two of the sources were familiar with the specific discussions, while the other two had knowledge of the planning effort, suggesting that these strategic moves are indeed moving forward. All parties requested that the news outlet keep them anonymous, as these plans are not intended for public consumption.
The strikes would be targeted but represent another level of engagement as they would take place within Venezuela. There have already been three military strikes against Venezuelan boats that allegedly were carrying drugs and nefarious individuals that Trump said were dangerous to Americans.
🚨Alert: Drone strikes against Venezuela Coming! According to an NBC News exclusive, the US is preparing options for military strikes against Venezuelan drug trafficking targets, with plans centered on drone strikes against El Presidente and his regime in Caracas. Sources indicate that although the White House hasn't made any official plans for attacks, the military campaign could be initiated within the next several weeks, based on current discussions. They would likely be drone strikes focused on the cartels' leadership and members, as well as the locations where these drugs are refined and manufactured.
This comes as Trump believes that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro hasn't done enough to keep the cartels from exporting illegal narcotics to the U.S., which was the justification for the previous boat strikes. The attacks were successful, as evidenced by drugs found in the water following one particular strike, according to the nearby U.S. Embassy and officials in the Dominican Republic.
At this point, further military action is a theoretical possibility, but recent movements of military resources into the area suggest something bigger is on the horizon, Fox News reported. "Whether we see more consequential strikes will depend more on political calculations in Washington than on operational capability," said Geoff Ramsey, a senior fellow at the international affairs think tank, the Atlantic Council.
"The administration could use the strikes as occasional shows of force, or it could escalate into a more systematic campaign. But the risk of doing so would be that we could destabilize Venezuela and spark an internal armed conflict with no clear endgame," Ramsey warned.
What begins as a strike against the drug trade could carry a "real risk of escalation" if Maduro believes his nation's sovereignty is under attack. It could also spark off a "cycle of retaliation" from the Venezuelan government, but that might be a risk Trump is willing to take to combat the growing drug problem.
As NBC News noted, a U.S. military official has noted that more than 4,000 personnel and eight warships have been deployed to the area. Several F-35 fighter jets have also arrived in Puerto Rico, suggesting that forces are preparing for an event in the region.
"You don’t move that many resources down there without looking at all options," one source said. It's unusual to allocate such a significant number of military resources to one area while leaving others vulnerable without a clear plan. "You can’t keep that kind of firepower in the Caribbean forever," the source said.
Moreover, Trump has a history of pursuing Maduro over Venezuela's role in sending drugs such as fentanyl and cocaine into the U.S. As Trump's first term was wrapping up in 2020, his Justice Department slapped the Venezuelan president with charges related to the Venezuelan drugs and gangs.
There's some suggestion that part of the objective in sending military assets and initiating drone strikes is to destabilize Maduro's power. This is an objective Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also supported, according to those close to the administration, and could serve Trump's purposes of keeping the U.S. safe while ousting a terrible leader.
Nobody is eager for war at this time, but cutting off the drug problem at its source by initiating some drone strikes seems like a risk worth taking. Venezuela is a nation overrun with drugs and crime that's run by a dictator, and regime change may be necessary to make life better for its citizens as well as Americans.
President Donald Trump demanded that Microsoft, which has several government contracts handling sensitive data, "immediately terminate" Lisa Monaco as president of global affairs, the New York Post reported. Monaco was a former deputy attorney general under President Joe Biden and played a key role in prosecuting Trump and other January 6 defendants.
The president said Friday that Monaco is a "menace to U.S. National Security" in part because she's privy to "Highly Sensitive Information" in her position. Although it would not normally be appropriate for a president to interfere in a private corporation, Monaco's position in the company and her history of actively working against Trump call into question her fitness to continue.
The 57-year-old served as White House homeland security and counter terrorism adviser under then-President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017. She joined the Biden administration and served as the second-in-command at the Department of Justice from 2021 to 2025.
During that time, she was involved in several legal actions against Trump, including the classified documents case and Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into election interference. Trump views this as evidence that Monaco has a proven vendetta against him and should be removed from Microsoft in light of its role in U.S. government technology.
The president posted to his Truth Social account on Friday, making his case against Monaco. He called her "Corrupt and Totally Trump Deranged." He cited her work under Biden, who, along with then-Attorney General Merrick Garland, were all the architects of the worst ever Deep State Conspiracies against our Country (RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA, the January 6th Hoax, the Illegal Raid on Mar-a-Lago, the Biden 'Autopen' Scandal, the Documents Witch Hunt, and more!)," Trump charged.
"Monaco has been shockingly hired as the President of Global Affairs for Microsoft, in a very senior role with access to Highly Sensitive Information. Monaco’s having that kind of access is unacceptable, and cannot be allowed to stand. She is a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government," Trump went on.
"Because of Monaco’s many wrongful acts, the U.S. Government recently stripped her of all Security Clearances, took away all of her access to National Security Intelligence, and banned her from all Federal Properties. It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco," Trump called on the tech giant.
"Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT," he concluded his post against Monaco. Whether Microsoft will comply with his request is still unknown.
If Monaco were doing her job as a prosecutor against Trump in a straightforward way, perhaps his case against her would be less compelling. However, her role is now in question with Smith is being investigated by GOP Sen. Tom Cotton, who contends that the prosecution was indeed politically motivated, though the former special prosecutor denies it.
This comes as Trump's Justice Department indicted former FBI Director James Comey for making false statements about the Russia collusion scandal, which was the first to be pinned on Trump after he got into the political arena in 2016. Comey has maintained his innocence, but it's yet another in a line of actions that give credence to Trump's claim that all of his prosecutions were politically motivated.
Meanwhile, many have argued that Microsoft is too close for comfort to the government, and this conflict underscores one of the reasons why that might be the case. The massive tech company is also facing renewed concerns about its potential monopoly, as it is under a Federal Trade Commission antitrust investigation that began under the Biden administration.
The FTC, supported by Democrats and Republicans, contends that the company has an outsized market share in artificial intelligence, cloud storage, and the Office suite of software. In a business decision that may bolster the government's case, Microsoft often bundles its Office, cloud services, and cybersecurity solutions for high-priced contracts, including those with government agencies.
There is too much coziness between the government and big tech, especially when it comes to the way Trump was treated by these companies for years. It seems there are too many anti-Trump leftists with too much power, and it's time someone calls them out for this.
An intense conversation between President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump was reportedly about the escalator incident at the U.N. summit.
Cameras caught the president pointing his finger at the first lady, who responded by shaking her head during the exchange, filmed through the windows of Marine One as it landed at the White House.
It took next to no time for the mainstream media to take these images and run with them as signs that Donald and Melania are at each other's throats, an accusation that has been floated for the past decade despite the ironclad nature of the couple's relationship.
However, lipreading experts have confirmed that the couple was having an animated conversation about the viral escalator incident at U.N. headquarters in Manhattan the day before.
Clearly, neither Donald nor Melania was happy about the incident, which Trump has blamed on the U.N., along with a series of other incidents that Trump suspects were intentional acts of sabotage to make him look bad.
Forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman told The Daily Mail that, "From my interpretation, I don’t think Donald Trump was having a go at Melania Trump — but at the shenanigans at the U.N."
Trump was furious about the incident with the escalator, which stopped suddenly and could have caused a disastrous situation for both the president and his wife, as well as the entourage.
Trump later posted to social media that, "It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first. It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or, it would have been a disaster."
Another lip reader, Nicola Hickling, believes that Donald Trump was being protective of Melania in the moment caught on the helicopter. She claimed that Trump was saying, "I can’t forgive them, they tried to hurt you," in the moment caught as Marine One was landing.
Trump is famously protective of Melania Trump, and it's understandable that he would be absolutely furious if some staffer at the U.N. had gotten her hurt by suddenly shutting down an escalator.
Trump cited a report from The Times of London that U.N. staffers had been joking about switching off the escalator in order to make Trump walk to the hall to give his speech.
This prompted Trump to throw accusations of deliberate sabotage at the U.N., which is no friend of the Trump family. Trump's speech at the U.N. was essentially a diatribe of Trump tearing into the U.N. for being an ineffective and corrupt organization.
While the Trump's relationship appears to be as strong as ever, Trump's relationship with the U.N. has never been worse. Trump has long looked at the U.N. as a corrupt and ineffective organization that leeches off American financial support, and recent events have confirmed those views.
Trump ripped into the U.N.'s general assembly, citing how the organization and its many participating nations, mostly from Europe, had failed to assist the U.S. in any meaningful foreign policy.
While Trump has been putting in overtime achieving peace deals and ending international conflicts, the U.N. has done nothing but spend money.
The U.N. is a useless organization, and it's long past time that American dollars stop facilitating the organization that is comprised of ungrateful countries that hate America.
Former FBI Director James Comey faces a maximum of five years in prison if found guilty on charges stemming from allegedly making false statements to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and obstructing justice, News Nation reported. Comey testified before the committee on September 30, 2020, regarding the FBI's investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 election.
A grand jury indicted Comey on Thursday, finding that he allegedly falsely denied that he "authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports" about the 2016 case during the campaign. Trump was accused of colluding with Russia to help him win the 2016 election, a charge which later proved to be patently false.
Attorney General Pam Bondi celebrated the indictment with a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. "No one is above the law. Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case," Bondi wrote.

According to Fox News, Comey will be arraigned on Oct. 9 in front of District Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff. The criminal investigation began in July to uncover whether Comey had lied to Congress after Trump was embroiled in the FBI's "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation.
Special counsel Robert Mueller looked into the investigation and found in March 2019 that there was no proof of any collusion or conspiracy between Trump and the Kremlin. Armed with that information, Special Counsel John Durham was appointed to investigate the origins of the investigation that dogged Trump throughout the 2016 campaign and into his presidency.
As many suspected, Durham concluded that the FBI "failed to act" on doubts despite a "clear warning sign" that Hillary Clinton's campaign made the FBI the "target" of a scheme to "manipulate or influence the law enforcement process for political purposes" during the campaign. This all but proved the entire investigation was a politically motivated witch hunt that was used in an effort to keep Trump out of the White House.
Still, Comey claims that he is the victim of political targeting, having been allegedly held accountable for only a small part of the injustice. "My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump, but we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way," Comey claimed in a video post to Instagram.
"We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either," he went on. "My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I’m innocent, so let’s have a trial and keep the faith," Comey later concluded.
As Comey makes himself a martyr, the media dutifully reports his indictment as an example of Trump targeting his political enemies. However, as Ari Fleischer, former White House press secretary under George W. Bush, expertly demonstrated in a post to X Friday, this is a blatant double standard from the press.
"I don’t know if James Comey is innocent or guilty, but I do know that when the Biden DoJ indicted Trump aides Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, the WP and NYT treated it as straight news, not as Biden going after his opponents. But now, it’s all about Trump getting his enemies," Fleischer pointed out.
Contrast it with these headlines today: pic.twitter.com/NZC3OAwlbD
— Ari Fleischer (@AriFleischer) September 26, 2025
The media consultant shared screenshots of several headlines from the news outlets when then-President Joe Biden's administration started going after Trump's former aides and associates. In another post in the thread, Fleischer shared headlines from the story about Comey's indictment, where those same outlets called it part of his plan to "prosecute foes" and called Comey a "longtime Trump target."
The left tried to destroy Trump with investigations, prosecutions, and smears in the media thanks to people like Comey. If he's guilty, Comey deserves to serve every day of his sentence for what could have amounted to election interference and, at the very least, for trying to destroy Trump's reputation
President Donald Trump's administration has directed agencies to use the opportunity of an upcoming government shutdown to push through massive layoffs, Breitbart's John Nolte reported. An Office of Management and Budget memo has directed such action if Congress fails to reach a budget deal by September 30.
"The White House has already instructed federal agencies to plan for mass firings if Democrats shut down the government. So, let’s all do our part to encourage Democrats to shut down the government," Nolte quipped. If this goes through, it would send shockwaves through Washington, D.C. and Democrats could bet blamed.
Democrats have refused to pass a budget without inserting their own agenda items, including healthcare for illegal immigrants and other leftist pet causes. The official memo directs that "Federal programs whose funding would lapse and which are otherwise unfunded" in a government shutdown should "use this opportunity to consider Reduction in Force (RIF) notices for all employees in programs, projects, or activities" if they lack funding sources or "is not consistent with the President’s priorities."
As Nolte points out, in times past, these employees would be "furloughed during government shutdowns and then brought back after a deal is reached—which made all Normal People wonder why we need unnecessary bureaucrats at all? "This time, Trump's administration intends to answer that question by encouraging agencies ot cut staff.
Nolte believes Trump has crafted a winning strategy to trip up his political opponents. "This is powerful leverage for Trump because Democrats love bureaucrats because bureaucrats 1) vote Democrat and 2) make up the Deep State that constantly foils the will of Normal People when a Republican is in office," the author pointed out.
"So why won’t Democrats vote to fund the government? After all, it’s a simple process. The Republicans offered an easy-peasy clean continuing resolution, which essentially says the government will carry on spending like it has for the next seven weeks," Nolte continued.
That did not satisfy Democrats' pathological need to spend more. "According to Republicans, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) counter-offered with a demand for $1.4 trillion in new spending that, among other things, reinstates free health care for illegal aliens and funding for far-left NPR and PBS, and also pays to mutilate little kids to appease the left’s demonic trans godz," Nolte said.
Trump is fed up with the demands and flat-out refused further meetings with the Democratic Party's leadership. "After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive," Trump said of his decision.
The president named some of these offensive additions, including "…free healthcare for Illegal Aliens (A monumental cost!), force Taxpayers to fund Transgender surgery for minors, have dead people on the Medicaid roles, allow Illegal Alien Criminals to steal Billions of Dollars in American Taxpayer Benefits, try to force our Country to again open our Borders to Criminals and to the World, allow men to play in women’s sports, and essentially create Transgender operations for everybody," Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social. Now, it's up to Democrats to walk back those demands.
By recommending government layoffs in the event of a shutdown, Trump has maneuvered Democrats into a checkmate situation. "Trump can’t lose here," Nolte asserts about the president's plan. It appears he has his political adversaries right where he wants them.
"Democrats will be blamed for the shutdown. Bureaucrats will be fired (tee hee)," Nolte pointed out.
"On the other hand, if Democrats cave and vote for the continuing resolution, their base will be furious. Additionally, these insane demands from Democrats have already been made public, which will haunt them going into the midterms," Nolte added.
"Hopefully, Democrats will cave on the shutdown and Trump will fire all these people anyway. That would be awesome. Hey, if you’re not necessary, you’re not necessary. In the real world, once you become unnecessary, you lose your job. It has certainly happened to me, and I see no reason why federal bureaucrats paid for with our tax dollars should be immune," Nolte concluded.
Democrats like to try to scare the public with threats of a government shutdown, and they believe they can score political points by pinning the blame on Republicans when they do. However, people have grown tired of these hysterical predictions and would likely welcome some government downsizing, which leaves Democrats in quite a tough spot.
No matter how hard one tries, it's never really possible to erase something from the internet.
The latest example: footage of would-be President Donald Trump assassin Thomas Crooks dry-firing a weapon in his bedroom that quickly disappeared off the internet after he was killed by a Secret Service sniper were unearthed and posted on Candace Owens's podcast on Wednesday.
Cell phone video showed a handgun lying neatly atop Crooks's made bed, then progresses to him picking it up and taking a tactical stance as he dry-fires it at a real or imaginary target off-camera.
A second, shorter video showed Crooks again dry-firing the weapon, this time looking even more menacing than before.
Crooks, 20, shot President Donald Trump in the ear during a Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally in August 2024.
The bullet was intended to kill Trump, but only grazed his ear when he turned his head at the last minute.
Crooks's digital footprint showed that he had been obsessed with assassinations, mass shootings, guns, and explosives.
As far back as 2019 when he was only about 15 years old, he made violent comments on YouTube videos.
Despite frequent internet searches on these topics and his comments, Crooks had not come to the attention of the FBI or other law enforcement before the assassination attempt.
Based on this information, it seems as though Crooks's motive was infamy or the ability to accomplish an assassination of his own, not any particular ill will toward Trump.
His violent comment in 2019 pertained to chopping the heads off anti-Trump Democrats, which makes one wonder why he would target Trump at all.
It may have just been a case of opportunity knocking when Trump decided to do a rally in Butler, near Crooks' home outside Pittsburgh.
The chance to act on his obsession was just too tempting to pass up, I guess.
Given that he is dead, we may never know what motivated him to try killing Trump.
In a surprising financial twist, millions of dollars donated to the Obama Foundation for a sprawling Chicago campus have been redirected to the Tides Foundation, a progressive organization linked to contentious anti-Israel groups, as the New York Post reports.
This development raises questions about the Obama Foundation’s allocation of over $2 million to Tides in 2022 and 2023, alongside scrutiny over hefty executive pay and construction delays at the Obama Presidential Center.
The Obama Foundation, established to honor former President Barack Obama, has been collecting donations to build a 19-acre campus in Jackson Park on Chicago’s South Side.
This ambitious project, which began construction in 2021, includes a museum, athletic facility, and gardens for fruits and vegetables.
However, federal tax filings reveal that $2 million of these donations were transferred to the Tides Foundation in 2022 and 2023.
The funds were reportedly designated to aid local groups focused on reducing community violence, according to the nonprofit’s records.
The Tides Foundation, which also receives support from Democrat donor George Soros, acts as a fiscal sponsor for organizations not registered as charities with the IRS.
Currently, Tides is under investigation by the House Ways and Means Committee for channeling money to anti-Israel groups such as the Adalah Justice Project, Samidoun, and the People’s Forum.
These groups are accused of orchestrating pro-Palestinian protests and campus encampments at Ivy League schools following the Hamas attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which left 1,200 Israelis dead.
Beyond its ties to anti-Israel entities, Tides has managed funds for the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, which sued Tides in 2023 in California Superior Court over alleged mismanagement of more than $33 million.
That legal battle remains unresolved, casting further doubt on Tides’ financial practices.
Meanwhile, the Obama Foundation also allocated over $3 million during 2022 and 2023 to Gofundme.org for initiatives supporting girls’ education through grassroots efforts, though specific recipients remain undisclosed.
Back in Chicago, the Obama Presidential Center has already cost over $615 million, surpassing its initial $500 million budget due to construction setbacks.
The center, set to open in spring 2026, has drawn local criticism for its impact on the surrounding community.
Ken Woodward, a lawyer and local resident, voiced frustration earlier this year, saying, “It’s a monstrosity … it’s taking way too long to finish and it’s going to drive up prices and bring headaches and problems for everyone who lives here.”
President Donald Trump is slapping tariffs of up to 100% on some foreign goods, including certain pharmaceutical drugs, kitchen furniture, and semi-trucks, starting Oct. 1.
Trump announced the latest moves to protect American manufacturing from "unfair outside competition" in a series of posts on Truth Social.
The steepest tariffs apply to name-branded drugs, which will be subject to 100% duties unless companies build on U.S. soil.
"There will, therefore, be no Tariff on these Pharmaceutical Products if construction has started. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump wrote.
Trump is also slapping 50% tariffs on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and associated products, as well as 30% tariffs on upholstered furniture and 25% tariffs on trucks.
"We will be imposing a 50% Tariff on all Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and associated products, starting October 1st, 2025. Additionally, we will be charging a 30% Tariff on Upholstered Furniture," Trump wrote.
The new tariffs mark an escalation in Trump's trade war, which seeks to reverse years of manufacturing losses as foreign goods have flooded the U.S.
"The reason for this is the large scale 'FLOODING' of these products into the United States by other outside Countries. It is a very unfair practice, but we must protect, for National Security and other reasons, our Manufacturing process. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
The president imposed the tariffs using a national security law, Section 232, which he has already used to place tariffs on goods like cars and aluminum.
Trump is also investigating goods like semi-conductors, medical supplies, and personal protective equipment under Section 232.
Broadly speaking, Trump's tariff agenda has not resulted in the crushing inflation that many economists had predicted, although prices have increased somewhat, with inflation ticking up to 2.9% in August.
Despite the broad scope of the new levies, the impact on consumers could be limited. The pharma tariffs appear to exempt generic drugs, which account for nine out of 10 prescriptions in the U.S. Top drugmakers could also avoid the tariff because many have already started building in the U.S. in response to pressure from Trump.
A trade deal that Trump negotiated with the European Union could also dampen the blow, as Europe is a major source of branded drugs.
On the other hand, tariffs on kitchen furniture could create new pressures for homebuilders at a time when home prices are out of reach for most Americans.
The U.S. economy grew much faster than expected in the second quarter of 2025, with the GDP expanding 3.8%, according to the latest figures.
Mikie Sherrill, the Democrat congresswoman and current candidate in New Jersey's high-stakes governor's race, was blocked from walking with her graduating class at the Naval Academy years ago because of her involvement in a cheating scandal, the New Jersey Globe reported.
A copy of the commencement program from the year Sherrill graduated does not list her name, the Globe reported.
She told the outlet that she was barred from walking because she did not turn in classmates who cheated on an electrical engineering exam.
"I didn’t turn in some of my classmates, so I didn’t walk, but graduated and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving for nearly ten years with the highest level of distinction and honor,” Sherrill explained.
The scandal involved at least 125 students and grabbed significant publicity at the time as a betrayal of the academy's code of honor. It led to scrutiny from Congress and the Academy's superintendent resigning.
The news of Sherrill's involvement in the worst cheating scandal in the Naval Academy's history has rocked one of the biggest and most closely watched elections this fall.
Polls show Sherrill in a dead heat with Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Sherrill has put her time at the Academy and as a Navy pilot front and center in her campaign.
"Today’s admission by Congresswoman Sherrill that she was implicated in, and punished for, her involvement in the largest cheating and honor code scandal in the history of the United States Navy is both stunning and deeply disturbing,” Ciattarelli wrote in a post on X.
“For eight years, Mikie Sherrill has built her entire political brand around her time at the Naval Academy and in the Navy, all the while concealing her involvement in the scandal and her punishment. The people of New Jersey deserve complete and total transparency," the post continued.
Sherrill has not denied the substance of the reports, but she accuses Ciattarelli of "smearing" her by using a "widely reported incident" from the past.
"Now, his latest attempt is to go after a 30-year-old widely reported incident when I was an undergraduate at the Naval Academy,” Sherrill stated.
Sherrill has declined requests from the media to release her disciplinary records from her time at the academy.
While the cheating scandal was a big story at the time, Sherrill's involvement in it is definitely news.
A new poll from Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill found that Sherrill and Ciattarelli are in a dead heat.
