‘The irony is overwhelming’: Carlson slams Swalwell over reported relationship with suspected spy

U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is at the center of controversy over reports that he was engaged in a years-long political relationship with Christine Fang, who is suspected of serving as a spy for China’s communist regime.

Seizing on Swalwell’s seat on the House Intelligence Committee, Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson used a segment of his program on Tuesday to deliver a knockout blow to the congressman over his perceived arrogance and hypocrisy, the Post Millennial reported.

A suspected spy

Carlson began his monologue by laying out some of the pertinent allegations surrounding Fang and her penchant for latching onto rising stars in the Democratic Party.

According to Axios, Fang is accused of engaging in fundraising, organizing, and even sexual liaisons with multiple politicians, though the extent of her apparent connection to Swalwell remains unconfirmed.

The Axios report went on to detail Fang’s introduction to Swalwell in either 2011 or 2012, while he was a city council member. She apparently served a pivotal role in helping him get elected to Congress in 2014 and re-elected two years later.

A pattern of behavior

Swalwell is believed to have severed ties with Fang in 2015 after the FBI warned him of her suspected ties. After that, she reportedly fled the country to presumably return to China.

Carlson, for his part, noted Tuesday that “intelligence officials believe that Fang had a sexual relationship with Eric Swalwell,” adding that his show contacted the congressman for a statement.

“His staff replied by saying they couldn’t comment because such information might be classified,” the Fox host said. “They did not elaborate or explain what they meant by that.”

“An expert at spotting foreign interference”

With regard to Swalwell’s potential value to China, Carlson described him as a “promising vehicle” for the communist regime, adding that at “every turn, Swalwell has remained a reliable source of Chinese government propaganda.”

Given his access to sensitive information as a member of the intel panel, Carlson said that the Democrat has “styled himself as an expert at spotting foreign interference in our government,” including accusations he has made against Trump in recent years.

“The irony is overwhelming,” Carlson concluded.

In response to demands from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to strip the congressman of his position on the committee, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) declared that she doesn’t “have any concern about Mr. Swalwell,” according to Just the News.
