Fox News star Tucker Carlson took a moment to address the recent resignation of a staffer on his show after it was revealed that the employee posted controversial remarks anonymously on an online forum, as CBS News reports.
Carlson has been embroiled in a public relations nightmare as his opponents on the left have attempted to link the staffer’s opinions to those of his boss.
However, on Monday night, Carlson went to great lengths to make it clear that the things written by his employee were inappropriate and don’t align with his own beliefs.
Staffer resigns amid backlash
Blake Neff, who was Carlson’s top writer, was accused of posting racist and sexist comments in an online forum which, according to The New York Times, “mocked and denigrated African-Americans, Asian-Americans and women.”
Carlson responded to the ensuing controversy saying, “On Friday, many of those posts became public. Blake was horrified by the story and he was ashamed. Friday afternoon he resigned from his job. It is wrong to attack people for qualities they cannot control. In this country, we judge people for what they do, not for how they were born. We often say that because we mean it.”
The host made it clear that no matter the circumstances, racism will not be tolerated on his show or among members of his staff, but according to the Washington Post, the Fox News star didn’t stop there.
Carlson also took some time to address his own opponents saying:
We should also point out to the ghouls now beating their chests and triumph of the destruction of a young man that self-righteousness also has its costs. We are all human. When we pretend we are holy, we are lying. When we pose as blameless in order to hurt other people, we are committing the gravest sin of all and we will be punished for it.
Hit job on Carlson
After having provided a no-nonsense explanation of what occurred, Carlson should be able to rest easy.
He was not involved in any sort of racist or sexist commentary, and he was quick to condemn the same.
The reality of these developments, however, is that those who wish to see Carlson permanently off the air are doing whatever they can to dig up dirt on him.
Mainstream outlets and left-wing activists are desperately trying to tie Carlson’s viewpoints to those of his now-former staffer, in what can only be seen as an outgrowth of the boycott campaigns with which his show has already been targeted more than once.
The good news is that with Carlson’s ratings recently breaking all-time cable news records, it seems unlikely that such attempts to sink his show once and for all have any real chance of success.
