A rising star in the conservative movement made a surprising announcement over the weekend.
Candace Owens has announced that she is considering running for the U.S. presidency, Fox News reports.
“I love America. Thinking about running for President,” Owens tweeted Saturday.
It is unclear how serious Owens was in making the statement. According to Fox, she did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment on its report.
Owens is a conservative commentator and writer who is known for constantly holding the political left’s feet to the fire. Over the weekend, she condemned the way the left is using the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol to justify coming down on conservatives and Trump supporters.
“If you’re smarter than a 5th grader, you realize that the radical Left is trying to brainwash the world into believing January 6th was similar to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. Absurd,” Owens tweeted. “Just a sloppy attempt to justify censoring, surveilling & treating half our country like terrorists.”
Owens continued: “Every good dictator needs a ‘reason’ and a ‘justification’ for locking up, censoring, and criminalizing all acts of political dissent. That is why I will #NeverForgetJanury6th Because it’s become a justification for evil against half our country who remain innocent.
“For any conservatives who do not have the courage to admit this and are capitulating to the sweeping acts that are being committed against citizens—including President Trump—you will come to regret such spinelessness,” Owens concluded. “This is an important time in our country. Speak up.”
Owens is also known for co-founding the BLEXIT movement.
“Blexit is a Renaissance,” Owens told Fox News. “Blexit is the Black exit from the Democratic Party. It’s the Black exit from permanent victimhood, the Black exit from the false idea that we are somehow separate from the rest of America.”
A New York Times bestseller, Owens recently published a book on the same theme called “Blackout,” which explains “how Black America can make its second escape from the Democratic plantation.”
Owens is almost 32 and would be old enough to run for the presidency by 2024. There is little doubt that she would be a welcome addition to the Republican field, at least in the eyes of many Americans.
