The Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade recently blasted the mainstream media - including CNN and MSNBC - for its clearly biased coverage of the indictment of former President Donald Trump.

Kilmeade did so during Wednesday's broadcast of Fox News Tonight.

Take a look:

The backstory

To put the above video clip into context, it came after Trump's arraignment.

Last Tuesday, Trump appeared in a Miami, Florida, court to plead "not guilty" to the 37 charges that special counsel Jack Smith has brought against him. The charges stem from Trump's alleged mishandling of classified materials after he left the White House in 2021.

Later on that day, after the arraignment, Trump delivered a speech in which he, among other things, targeted Smith and the Biden administration for what Trump sees as a politically motivated indictment designed to upend his 2024 presidential election campaign.

Suffice it to say that the mainstream media was very eager to cover the Trump indictment but a lot less eager to cover Trump's post-arraignment speech. In fact, many simply chose not to cover it.

Kilmeade on the media bias

In his opening remarks on Wednesday, Kilmeade targeted the likes of CNN, MSNBC, and PBS regarding their coverage of Trump's post-arraignment speech.

"The same media outlets that spent the entire day covering Trump’s arraignment suddenly wanted nothing to do with the former president. CNN refused to air Trump’s speech," Kilmeade said.

Here, Kilmeade played for viewers clips from the likes of CNN and MSBNC showing how they covered Trump's speech by essentially spoon-feeding viewers little bits of it while heavily editorializing it, claiming, for example, that Trump's defense against the indictment is false as if the trial had already taken place.

"The media have treated the Justice Department’s allegations like they’re complete facts. They never have been. They don’t even claim they are," Kilmeade said.

"Found not guilty"

There is a lot of truth to what Kilmeade had to say. But, what has garnered most of the attention is the fact that the caption to his monologue mistakenly said this: "CNN Hosts Go NUCLEAR As Trump Is Found Not Guilty And Refuse To Air His Speech."

Trump, of course, was not found "not guilty." Rather, he pled "not guilty." Still, one gets the sense - based on the mainstream media's coverage of Trump's post-arraignment activities, including his speech - that they simply would not be able to handle Trump receiving a "not guilty" verdict. In fact, it would appear that just the prospect of such a verdict is already too much for them to handle.
