David Axelrod, a key Barack Obama political machine operative and likely one of the main reasons Obama spent eight years in the White House, is warning that Joe Biden may fail the Democrat Party in 2024.
Axelrod cited polling from the New York Times that showed Biden trailing President Donald Trump in five key battleground states, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, all of which Biden won in 2020.
Axelrod was the chief strategist for Obama's presidential campaigns and also was given the job of "senior adviser to the president" for a time.
A report from the Washington Examiner said Axelrod's doubts were posted on social media.
They followed polling showing Trump trouncing Biden by margins of 4 to 11 points in those five swing states.
In a sixth swing state, Wisconsin, Biden was ahead only by a razor-thin 2% margin.
On social media, Axelrod took the now well-trodden Democrat path of name-calling against Trump, a campaign they've used since even before he was elected president when Democrats fabricated the "Russia collusion" claims against him.
But Axelrod warned the "stakes" of making a "miscalculation" about 2024 are "too dramatic to ignore."
The Examiner reported, "The new polling also found that voters under 30 prefer Biden over Trump by only 1 point, with Biden's support from Hispanic voters also going down. Additionally, black voters registered 22% in support of Trump, according to new polling data from the New York Times and Siena College."
Trump is far and away the leader of the GOP's primary race.
The New York Post bluntly characterized Axelrod's comments as suggesting "Biden drop out of 2024 race."
"Axelrod noted there is a "risk associated with changing course now, as there is little time left for a primary campaign — and campaigns are how we test candidates."
Already, polls show voters overwhelmingly preferring Trump over Biden on national security, Israel, immigration, the economy and more. Most Americans believe the nation is going in to "wrong direction" under Biden.
