President Donald Trump’s Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio sector of Texas were quite busy over the past weekend. According to Breitbart, they apprehended no less than 11 human smugglers and 27 illegal aliens who were accompanying those smugglers across the U.S.-Mexico border from Friday through Sunday.
The more than two dozen illegal aliens taken into custody by Border Patrol agents reportedly hailed from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. The arrested smugglers were either American citizens or legal immigrants.
Busy weekend for Border Patrol
One notable incident that resulted in six arrests occurred on Nov. 3 on a ranch road near the Brackettsville Station, when agents stopped a 2019 Dodge Caravan driven by a female with a male in the passenger seat.
Both of those individuals were U.S. citizens, but an inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of four other individuals hiding in the back seats. Agents soon determined that those four people had illegally entered the country.
The search of that vehicle also turned up some methamphetamine and a pipe. The drug paraphernalia was turned over to the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office, while the six individuals were all taken into custody.
Another notable incident occurred on Nov. 2 on Highway 227 at a checkpoint near the Carrizo Springs Station, when agents stopped a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. Both of the men in the front seats were citizens of the Dominican Republic, with at least the driver being a Lawful Permanent Resident inside the U.S.
A search of that vehicle, however, uncovered a secret compartment between the back seat and the trunk in which a woman from El Salvador and her 9-year-old daughter were hiding. The two men were arrested for making fraudulent statements and the woman and child were taken into custody by agents.
Message from the sector chief
Officials from the Del Rio sector reported that there were at least five other similar incidents over the three-day period.
In those additional incidents, another seven smugglers were arrested and 21 other illegal aliens were apprehended by agents.
“Human smugglers demonstrate a complete disregard for the welfare of those they smuggle in their selfish quest for profit,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz said in a statement.
He went on: “Our agents, through superior communication and teamwork, were able to stop these smugglers and illegal aliens from going farther into the United States.”
Thankfully, the agents of the Del Rio sector were keeping a careful eye open over the weekend, even if the illegal aliens and smugglers they apprehended are but a small portion of the numbers that come over virtually every day.
