Freshman U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) made headlines this week for her wardrobe choice.
According to reports, she was photographed with a dress emblazoned with the phrase “Let’s go Brandon.”
“It’s not a phrase, it’s a movement”
The phrase has gained popularity in conservative circles over the past several weeks following a NASCAR event at which a reporter mistakenly believed the crowd was chanting in support of driver Brandon Brown. In reality, many spectators appeared to be repeating a disparaging chant aimed at President Joe Biden.
Since then, “Let’s go Brandon” has been a common chant at political rallies and sporting events. It has also popped up in popular culture with a hit rap song as well as on Boebert’s dress.
For its part, NASCAR has denounced the phrase and has threatened lawsuits against anyone using its logos to promote it.
Boebert wore the dress to a meeting with former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. She called attention to the getup with a tweet revealing the knee-high red dress and the controversial phrase written on the back.
“It’s not a phrase, it’s a movement,” she wrote.
“And so the meeting went phenomenally well”
Of course, she is not the first lawmaker to draw attention for featuring a bold message on a dress. Earlier this year, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) attended the Met Gala in a white dress with “Tax the rich” written in red.
As for Boebert’s meeting with Trump, her communications director indicated that they had a “phenomenal” conversation.
“Congresswoman Boebert has been a leader of the Make America Great Again movement and a leader for pushing President Trump’s agenda forward in Congress,” said Ben Stout. “And so the meeting went phenomenally well. They discussed how destructive the Biden administration has been and the importance of putting President Trump policies in place that we can get America back on track.”
Trump also apparently enjoyed Boebert’s choice of attire, according to Stout, who said the dress “made him smile” and “he loved it.”
Biden’s supporters in the Democratic Party and mainstream media, on the other hand, were reportedly outraged by the stunt, which might serve as motivation for the congresswoman to keep it up.
