Bill Gates recently expressed his belief that America, with its “political polarization,” is heading for a “civil war,” Business Insider reports.
Gates’s comment came during an interview that he participated in at Forbes’s 400 Summit on Philanthropy.
“I admit that . . .”
At the summit, Gates started off by revealing that he plans to end the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 25 years. He also revealed that, in the coming years, he plans to spend billions of dollars on combatting “infectious disease” and “climate change.”
Gates then, however, made a bleak prediction.
“I admit that political polarization may bring it all to an end, we’re going to have a hung election and a civil war,” Gates said, adding, “I have no expertise in that. I’m not going to divert my money to that because I wouldn’t know how to spend it.”
“A problem”
Gates went on to make a connection between this “political polarization” and the spread of “misinformation.” Here, Gates focused on coronavirus vaccines to make his point.
“I have a group that tracks what’s on the web that’s talking about things that connect to me,” Gates said. “Overwhelmingly during the pandemic, 95% was all the conspiracy theory stuff.”
“The polarization and lack of trust is a problem,” Gates continued. “One of the best-selling books last year was a book by Robert Kennedy, saying that I like to make money and kill millions of people with vaccines. It’s wild that [that] sells well.”
Gates, here, said that he has hopes of putting an end to this sort of thing – an end to people asking questions about “crazy stuff.”
“People seek simple solutions [and] the truth is kind of boring sometimes,” Gates said. “Anybody who’s got good innovations on reducing polarization, getting the truth to be as interesting as the crazy stuff, that would be well worth investing in.”
What of it?
Gates is right about some things here. America, for example, has become so politically polarized that a “civil war” is not outside of the realm of possibility, and propaganda has helped to bring about this political polarization.
What Gates doesn’t seem to realize, though, is that this propaganda, by and large, has come from the politics of the political left, of which he, himself, has been an ardent supporter.
