Bijou Phillips stood by her husband Danny Masterson through three rape trials, but after he was convicted of raping two women in the early 2000s and sentenced to 30 years to life, she filed for divorce.

Five months later, the actress updated E!Online about how she's doing on her own with the ex-couple's nine-year-old daughter.

"I'm doing good," she said at a Grammys viewing party, adding that she and daughter Fianna are "a great little team."

Masterson's lawyers said they are appealing his convictions on a number of grounds, but it appears that Phillips has decided to move on after supporting him through the trial, even writing a letter to the court that said Masterson was a "life-saving partner" to her.

"Amazing father"

"Danny is an amazing father," she said. "Our daughter and I are heartbroken that he is not home with us. It has been very difficult without him here. Even though he is now in jail, he calls her every day. He helps her with homework every night."

She cited "irreconcilable differences" in the court documents when she filed for divorce.

After all, even with good behavior Masterson will miss the rest of his daughter's childhood and she will be nearly 60 when he gets out, or even older. It's a long time to stay married to someone when they're not around.

She also left the church of Scientology after they declared Masterson a "suppressive person" because of the rape conviction.

Tumultous life

Phillips has had a tumultuous life. She spent time in foster care even though she had famous parents, until 3rd grade when her father finally convinced the court to give him custody.

By the time she was 14, though, she was living in her own apartment, rebelling like crazy, modeling, and doing lots of drugs and drinking after her sister at 10-year-old said that she was in an incestuous relationship with their father. Now, she doesn't believe the allegations.

After a stint in rehab at 17, she started writing songs and denounced modeling. She released one album when she was 19.

She starred in Almost Famous in 2000 when she was 20, and from there began acting primarily in lesser films and horror movies.

Getting back out there

It appears that after being fairly sequestered away from the spotlight during Masterson's trial, Phillips is ready to get back out into the public eye, at least in a limited way such as the viewing party.

She also posted pictures online of a vacation in the Bahamas in December.

One only knows what she suffered--or didn't--during her life with Masterson, but healing is possible and let's hope she can heal from this ordeal.
