President-elect Joe Biden is facing a familiar allegation.
The Hill reports that U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) accused Biden of “plagiarizing the last relief bill” in a tweet slamming the president-elect’s latest coronavirus relief proposal.
“This guy has no idea”
Crenshaw’s comments came in response to a tweet Biden published on Thursday detailing his so-called “American Rescue Plan.”
According to the president-elect, the “key elements” of his proposal include “direct cash payments” to Americans, “extended unemployment” and rent relief, “aid to small businesses,” and “keeping essential frontline workers on the job.” In total, the package is expected to cost around $1.9 trillion.
Cost, however, was not the main focus of Crenshaw’s criticism. Rather, it was Biden’s lack of originality.
“This guy has no idea that all of this was just passed into law,” Crenshaw wrote in a tweet Friday, according to The Hill. “Stop plagiarizing the last relief bill and tell Democrat governors to OPEN the economy.”

As The Hill reports, there are certainly similarities between Biden’s proposal and the COVID-19 relief package that was passed in December. That package, too, provided direct payments to Americans, extended benefits for those who are unemployed, and offered relief for struggling renters.
The big difference, of course, is in the price: the last deal was $900 billion, while Biden’s has a staggering $1.9 trillion price tag.
If he did pull ideas from previous legislation, however, it seems it wouldn’t be out of character for Biden, who has a history with plagiarism charges that goes all the way back to his days in law school. In fact, it was an admission by Biden that he had been accused of plagiarism as a student that famously upended his 1988 presidential bid, as The Washington Post noted.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris was also recently caught in a plagiarism scandal of her own. According to Fox News, some have alleged she’s been passing off a story told by Martin Luther King, Jr. as her own since at least 2004.
At the end of the day though, what does it matter? When it comes to Democrats, it’s not a stretch to say that skirting accountability is one of their strongest attributes.
