Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden’s plans for gun reform could cost Americans — literally.
According to a new report from Breitbart, Biden’s plan to “require every AR-15 rifle” in America to be registered with the federal government could cost gun owners a sickening combined $3.6 billion in taxes.
Crunching the numbers
According to Breitbart’s Awr Hawkins, Biden’s gun control agenda “includes a provision that could require every AR-15 rifle be registered under the National Firearms Act of 1934.”
Hawkins reported: “Unless there were some form of carve-out, this could mandate that American gun owners pay a $200 federal tax per AR-15 that they own.”
Writing Saturday, Hawkins cited a statistic from Andrew Arulanandam, a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association (NRA), who said there are at least 18 million AR-15s in the hands of private citizens in the U.S.
At $200 per gun to register, that “means that gun owners could potentially be required to a pay a collective $3.6 billion in taxes, if this policy were enacted into legislation,” Hawkins wrote.
Biden’s big plans
And Biden isn’t even trying to hide it. The former vice president’s own campaign website makes his plan to “[r]egulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act” clear.
“Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine-guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF),” Biden’s website reads, according to Breitbart.
The Democrat’s site adds: “Due to these requirements, such weapons are rarely used in crimes. As president, Biden will pursue legislation to regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.”
“Save your Second Amendment”
President Donald Trump, on the other hand, has long been a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, even warning supporters back in February that Democrats “will take your guns away,” as the Associated Press reported. In August 2019, Trump vowed that his administration “will always uphold the right to self-defense, and we will always uphold the Second Amendment,” according to The Hill.
It’s just another reason those who believe in liberty and the Constitution only have one choice this November.
