Biden’s lead over Trump slims in key swing states: Report

The latest polling indicates that support for Joe Biden is collapsing in key swing states.

According to Breitbart, a new poll released Wednesday shows that Biden’s once-strong lead over President Donald Trump is slipping in states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania — and November’s election is only growing ever-closer.

Trump’s comeback

In 2016, Rust Belt states like those mentioned were incredibly important in determining Trump’s victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. For that reason, all eyes have been on the swing states — and the latest polling is showing bad news for Biden.

According to Breitbart, a Restoration PAC poll released on Wednesday showed Trump “closing the gap” in support. It’s promising news after months of rough polling for Trump that came alongside an outbreak of COVID-19 in the U.S.

Indeed, the pandemic had, at one point, given Biden a double-digit lead in key swing states, as Breitbart noted. But it is no longer June, and Trump is coming back.

According to Breitbart, the poll from Restoration PAC was “taken July 13–27 among 600 likely voters in each state.” After the survey results were released, Restoration PAC founder and president Doug Truax spoke to the press.

“I believe the race appears to be turning in the President’s direction,” he said, according to Breitbart. “Americans seem to be reaching out to President Trump to stop the dismantling of our country’s traditions, statues, and way of life.”

Looking forward

Of course, it’s important to note that these polls leave a lot to be desired. After all, Dems learned the hard way in 2016 what happens when you rely on opinion polling.

Clinton’s success in the polls was part of what made Trump’s 2016 victory so stunning.

Even still, as the height of election season draws closer, the recent numbers show things aren’t looking good for Biden. And if he wants to make up the ground lost, he’ll need to venture out of his basement.

Perhaps that day will finally come as the former vice president is poised to announce his own running mate in the coming days. Names floated for the role of Biden’s VP include California Sen. Kamala Harris (D), former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and California Rep. Karen Bass (D), according to USA Today.

It’s hard to say whether the right choice of running mate will be enough to save Biden’s crumbling campaign, but one thing is for certain: “Joe 30330” has a long, uphill battle ahead of him if he wants to find himself in the White House next January — and President Trump won’t be backing down in the meantime.
