Biden’s DOJ announces new ‘domestic terrorism’ unit, calling it a ‘top priority’

President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice appears to be willing to play ball with Democrats regarding their “domestic terrorism” narrative, which they link to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

According to the Washington Examiner, in his opening remarks at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing related to the subject, Matthew Olsen, an assistant attorney general with the Justice Department, announced the formation of a new “domestic terrorism” unit within DOJ.

Olsen made clear that Biden’s DOJ regards the events that transpired on Jan. 6 2021 as an act of domestic terrorism, and indicated that his boss, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland (D), is “heavily” focused on the perceived threat.

The Democrat-led Senate Judiciary Committee at which Olsen revealed the new unit was titled, “The Domestic Terrorism Threat One Year After January 6.”

Top priority

Forget soaring inflation, the supply chain crisis, Russia’s potential invasion of Ukraine, China, Iran, North Korea, and the ongoing disaster at the southern U.S. border — Biden’s DOJ is apparently much more concerned with white, MAGA hat-wearing conservatives or parents focused on protecting their schoolchildren at school board meetings, who they love to label as “domestic terrorists.”

“Today, investigating and prosecuting domestic violent extremists is one of our top priorities,” Olsen said at the hearing this week.

He added: “I have decided to establish a domestic terrorism unit to augment our existing approach. This group of dedicated attorneys will focus on the domestic terrorism threat, helping to ensure that these cases are handled properly and effectively coordinated across the Department of Justice and across the country.”

He went on to cite a handful of events that have transpired over the past couple of years, including the Tree of Life Synagouge shooting, and the Republican baseball game shooting.

“The threat posed by domestic terrorism is on the rise. The number of FBI investigations over the past two years since March 2020 has more than doubled,” Olsen insisted. “We have seen a growing threat from those who are motivated by racial animus as those who ascribe to extremist anti-government and anti-authority ideologies.”

Update on riot charges

The DOJ has arrested some 725 defendants with regard to their actions at the Capitol riot, with roughly 225 of those being charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.

Even though virtually every liberal media talking head loves to use the term “insurrectionist” and tosses around charges like “sedition,” not one single person involved in the Capitol riot has been hit with either of those charges.

It’s crystal clear to anyone with a shred of intelligence that Democrats, at all levels, are desperately clinging to the “domestic terrorism” narrative for partisan reasons. So far, it’s not working out very well.
