At 78 years old, President Joe Biden is not the spring chicken he once was, as evidenced back in November when he suffered what appeared to be a nasty injury in his foot.
But according to the Washington Examiner, Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, announced Saturday that the newly-minted president has made a full recovery from the two fractures in his foot, and will soon return to his regular exercise routine.
How’d he hurt it?
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, then-President-elect Biden gave a slight scare to his supporters when reports indicated he had been rushed to the hospital after suffering an injury while playing with one of his dogs at home.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Biden was later transferred to an orthopedist in Newark, Delaware, where specialists determined that the extent of the injury included several small fractures in the middle of Biden’s right foot — not exactly a desirable situation for an aging presidential hopeful.
Soon after he was released, photographs of Biden sporting a new walking boot emerged. Doctors said at the time that Biden would be required to wear the walking boot for several weeks so that his foot could properly heal.
Now, it appears the president has made a full recovery.
Dr. O’Connor’s Saturday statement buttoned-up any concerns that Biden’s foot is anything but fully healed. “The President received routine follow up x-rays today. Both small fractures of his foot are completely healed,” he said, according to the Examiner.
Clean bill of health
Biden is certainly not a stranger to hospitals and ailments. Through Dr. O’Connor, Biden issued a three-page statement in December 2019 concerning his overall health, presumably to tamp down on rumors that he might not be mentally or physically strong enough to carry out the duties that come along with being the president of the United States.
According to a report from NBC News, Dr. O’Connor made perfectly clear in his assessment that Biden was fully capable of handling all presidential duties.
In the report, the doctor wrote that Biden is a “healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” as NBC reported.
The detailed report was brutally transparent, indicating that Biden is currently being treated for a number of ailments and conditions that are reportedly common at his age, including gastroesophageal reflux, seasonal allergies, non-valvular atrial fibrillation, and hyperlipidemia.
The most notable and concerning medical issues in Biden’s past include undergoing advanced and dangerous surgery to repair two cerebral aneurysms that he suffered in 1988. Though the surgery was successful, Biden would go on to suffer from deep-vein thrombosis and a pulmonary embolism, according to NBC.
