President Joe Biden isn’t exactly off to a great start within his first year in the White House, and a vast majority of polls are continuing to prove that fact.
According to The Hill, in the wake of a string of failures on multiple fronts, the president fell in the latest Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll to an embarrassing 50% approval rating.
Biden’s new approval rating number, which was determined in late September, is down from 54% in August, and down from 59% in July.
Adding to the bad news for the president was the revelation that 49% of respondents disapprove of his performance so far, which many believe spells trouble for Democratic candidates gearing up for the 2022 midterm elections.
It gets worse
The AP poll provided shocking new insight as to how various voter demographics view the president. While Biden only suffered a slight decrease in support from Democratic voters, with the number going from 92% support to 85% support in September, independent voters — a crucial voting bloc — are jumping ship on support for Biden.
Independent support for the president fell from 62% in July to only 38% in the latest iteration of the AP poll last month.
When taking individual issues into account, Biden suffered greatly after his botched U.S. troop withdrawal in Afghanistan over the summer, as only 34% of respondents approved of his handling of the situation, and that’s across both party lines.
Sixty-five percent of respondents did not approve of Biden’s handling of the situation, which resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and a number of Americans and Afghan allies still stuck behind enemy lines in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
The Haitian situation
Adding to his woes was the Biden administration’s handling of the Haitian migrant encampment that formed in Del Rio, Texas that dominated the news headlines for weeks.
Given the scenes of squalor and the controversial horse-mounted Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) situation that spiraled totally out of control, it appears as if the fallout is landing squarely on Biden’s lap in the form of sinking poll numbers all around.
As The Hill noted, a number of other polls tell a similar story, with many of them actually placing the president in “underwater” territory as far as approval ratings are concerned.
It’s no wonder why so many Democratic voters are experiencing “buyer’s remorse” over voting for Biden, as he doesn’t appear to be capable of handling much, let alone the duties of the presidency.
