When former President Donald Trump was in the White House, the mainstream media relentlessly attacked him every time he would take a trip to his Florida-based Mar-a-Lago resort.
That doesn’t seem to be the case now that President Joe Biden is in the Oval Office, as Breitbart reported that he spent the weekend at his Delaware-based home, marking the sixth weekend away out of his first nine weeks as president.
“It’s his home”
On Friday, the White House altered Biden’s official schedule to reflect that the president moved his trip home up by four hours, giving him extended time away from the White House.
Of the six weekends away from the White House, four have been spent at Biden’s home in Delaware, with one trip back home taking place in the middle of a workweek. Two of his weekends away have been spent at Camp David, the official getaway spot for presidents and their families.
Biden, who took office on Jan. 20, has also logged over two dozen resting days since taking office, which seems bizarre given the number of issues that currently face the United States, such as the worsening crisis at the southern border.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki was recently asked about Biden’s numerous trips away from the White House.
“The president lives in Wilmington. It’s his home,” Psaki fired back.
Comparing to predecessors
Breitbart noted that by this time in Trump’s presidency, he had taken five weekends away from the White House, although two of those weekends were “working holidays,” with one being a round of diplomatic golf with Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and the other, a Red Cross ball, which he held at his property.
Several months passed before Trump visited his New York City-based home.
Former President Barack Obama, whose home was in Hawaii, rarely traveled there during his time in the White House. Like many other presidents, Obama was keen on visiting various golf courses in warmer climates like California and Florida. Obama and his family also frequently visited Martha’s Vineyard, which is where they currently call home.
The golf and resort life wasn’t so much former President George W. Bush’s cup of tea, as the 43rd president spent his time away from Washington D.C. at his Texas ranch.
Nobody is really criticizing Biden for taking some weekends off — but it’s aggravating that the media made every one of Trump’s trips away from the nation’s capital a dig at his work ethic, which if anyone’s being honest, is light years beyond the amount of work that Biden is currently putting in.
