Calls for President Joe Biden to resign in disgrace have picked up over the last week as Americans watched Afghanistan’s government crumble in the wake of the U.S. withdrawing its troops from the war-torn nation. But in the eyes of some, Biden shouldn’t get the chance to step down voluntarily.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called Friday for the president to be impeached if any American citizens or Afghan allies are left behind after Biden completes his hasty retreat from the country now controlled by the Taliban, The Epoch Times reported.
Worse still for Biden: As the Republican senator raises the prospect of a potential impeachment, one Republican member of the House has already laid the groundwork for such proceedings.
“Biden deserves to be impeached”
Sen. Graham’s call for Biden’s impeachment came Friday morning during an appearance on Fox & Friends. “We’re duty-bound to get every American citizen out. We’re honor-bound to get those Afghans who fought along our side out,” the senator said, according to The Epoch Times.
“And here’s what I would say,” he added. “If we leave any Americans behind, if we leave thousands of those Afghans who fought along our side behind — bravely — Joe Biden deserves to be impeached for a higher crime and misdemeanor, of dereliction of duty.”
According to Fox News, Graham went on to reiterate: “If we leave one American behind, if we don’t get all those Afghans who stepped up to the plate to help us out then Joe Biden, in my view, has committed a high crime and misdemeanor under the Constitution and should be impeached.”
Graham also referenced efforts by the British and French to retrieve their own citizens and Afghan allies trapped behind Taliban checkpoints. “I think the commander in chief owes it to every American citizen and owes it to the Afghans who fought along our side to get them out because if we leave them behind, they’re going to get slaughtered,” he said, according to The Epoch Times. Impeachment talk could become a reality
Later Friday, Sen. Graham doubled down, writing in a tweet that Biden should be impeached if he fails to rescue those who have been left stranded in Afghanistan.
If we leave any Americans behind, or if we leave thousands of Afghans who fought bravely alongside us behind, President Joe Biden deserves to be impeached for a High Crime and Misdemeanor of Dereliction of Duty.

If Sen. Graham truly is ready and willing to impeach President Biden over Afghanistan, he may want to consider publicly supporting articles of impeachment that were filed Friday by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
“Today, I introduced three impeachment resolutions against Joe Biden for his dereliction of duty in Afghanistan, his violations of immigration law causing a national security crisis on our Southern border, and his usurping of Congressional power by ignoring the SCOTUS,” the congresswoman tweeted Friday. For now, however, it’s unlikely that her efforts will bear any fruit.
