Biden stumbles over names during gaffe-filled speech in Houston: ‘What am I doing here?’

What many saw as evidence of a cognitive decline in Joe Biden on the campaign trail seems to has worsened since he moved into the White House in January.

The latest example of Biden falling flat on his face came on Friday, when the president stumbled through the names of several major political figures during a speech in Houston, Texas before openly declaring: “What am I doing here?”

The embarrassing moment was caught on camera and later amplified in a report from Breitbart. Take a look:

“I’m going to lose track”

Biden had traveled to Houston on Friday in a belated response to the series of severe winter storms that devastated nearly the entire Lone Star State.

In prepared remarks at a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) COVID-19 vaccine distribution facility, the president began by expressing his appreciation to state and local officials for their hospitality in hosting him.

But after first thanking Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Biden seemed to struggle to remember the rest of the names he wanted to mention.

“Good afternoon — or almost. Actually, it’s evening. And I want to thank you, Governor and Mrs. Abbott, for your hospitality and your friendship. And Representative — Senator Cornyn, I think he had to go back; I think he’s getting on a plane. He told me last — he came in to see me last event,” Biden said, according to a White House transcript.

“And Representatives, uh, Sheryl — Shirley Jackson Lee, Al Green, Sylvia Garcia, Lizzie Pannilli [sic] — excuse me, Pannill [Fletcher] — and — what am I doing here?” he asked. “I’m going to lose track here. And Mayor Turner, Judge Hidalgo. Thank you all for welcoming us.”

“He’s struggling cognitively”

In conjunction with the numerous other gaffes Biden has made over the last year or more, the latest blunders certainly don’t bode well for the 78-year-old president, who has also taken flak recently over his choice to apparently pawn his foreign policy responsibilities off on Vice President Kamala Harris.

“We can all see with our own eyes that Joe is frail, he is weak, and yes, he’s struggling cognitively,” Fox News host Sean Hannity said last week.

And we’ve still got nearly four full years to go.
