It was the Poynter Institute that infamously partnered with the extremists at Southern Poverty Law Center just a few years ago to list allegedly "unreliable" conservative news sources.

It was caught and shortly later apologized and pulled the list, claiming there was a "weakness" in the methodology.

Poynter, a journalism nonprofit, spent a long time then trying to get out from under a "flood" of complaints about bias in its agenda.

Now it is that "liberal journalism academy" that has been chosen by the Biden administration to teach reporters how to be "balanced and bias-free."

A report at the Washington Free Beacon explains a federal spending database shows Poynter held a training course with reporters as part of a contract with the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which oversees Voice of America and other government news agencies.

It was paid $23,500 for the course.

The Free Beacon warned, however, "Poynter may not be the best choice to teach journalists the art of unbiased and balanced reporting. While the organization bills itself as 'nonpartisan,' it is funded largely by wealthy Democratic donors George Soros, Pierre Omidyar, Craig Newmark, Bill Gates, and Tim Gill, an LGBT activist whose husband is Biden’s ambassador to Switzerland."

Further, GOP members have accused the group of "whitewashing stories about Iran and engaging in partisan advocacy in favor of President Joe Biden," the report said.

Its "blacklist" episode, dating back just four years, listed hundreds of news organizations it deemed "unreliable." It was retracted quickly.

Further, the Free Beacon reported that Poynter's fact-checking site, called PolitiFact, often is pro-liberal and anti-conservative and has targeted Republicans 62 out of the 86 times it has taken on politicians' statements.

At one point in 2020, it infamously declared that the theory the COVID-19 virus came from a Wuhan, China, lab where experiments were being done on bat viruses, a theory now widely accepted in the scientific and medical communities, was "ridiculous."

It also suggested that media organizations ignore the scandalous information about the Biden family revealed in the laptop computer abandoned by Hunter Biden, and praised those organizations that followed its instructions.

The Free Beacon reported, "The government’s contract with Poynter comes amid heightened scrutiny of this growing network of think tanks and watchdog groups that purport to track disinformation. Many of the organizations involved in the network receive federal funding and have shown a tendency to label conservative viewpoints as misinformation."
