As President Joe Biden settles into his place in the Oval Office and promises to lead the country with honesty and fairness, it is worth revisiting a moment from 13 years ago.
Flashback to 2007 when then-Senator Biden (D-DE) was interviewed by late-night TV host David Letterman. At the time, Biden claimed that he had been arrested at the Capitol building when he was 21 years old. But as noted in a recent report from Fox News, his story was never verified and largely falls in line with other tall tales that Biden has told in his time.
For Americans tempted to be optimistic about our new president, they must remember that he is willing to play fast and loose with the truth to advance his agenda.
History of lying
Biden has a borderline compulsive pattern of lying, stretching at least as far back to his first run at the presidency in 1988.
That year, Biden was considered one of the strongest candidates, but he ended his campaign after allegations of plagiarism surfaced. It was later revealed that his habit of plagiarism extended back to his time in law school.
Furthermore, it was discovered that Biden had made a habit of exaggerating his academic record to boost his public image.
Biden also has a history of bragging about arrests that never happened. Besides his unverified claim that he was arrested at the Capitol, he falsely claimed he was arrested when he tried to visit Nelson Mandela during apartheid in South Africa.
When Biden was called out on his lies, he responded by saying, “The cops would not let me go with them and told me to stay where I was. I guess I wasn’t arrested, I was stopped, I was not able to move where I wanted to go.”
Biden can’t be trusted
After the better part of 40 years, Biden has remained consistent on one thing: He has turned his habit of stretching the truth and outright lying into an art form.
Biden’s lying has continued just weeks into his presidency. After he spent months promising to encourage unity and healing, he has done the opposite.
Instead of helping the nation move on from the 2020 presidential election, Biden and the Democratic Party openly went after Republicans. From blaming Republicans for the riot at the Capitol to impeaching Donald Trump even after he left office, there has been no healing. Biden also made the absurd statement last week that there was not a coronavirus vaccine — or at least, no distribution plan — when he took office.
Biden’s record speaks more truth than he ever could, and it shows there is no reason to trust that he will fulfill his promises. Biden is the quintessential politician, and Americans should tailor their expectations accordingly.
