At this point, it’s obvious to many that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris do not seem to be prioritizing the immigration crisis that is still unfolding at the southern U.S. border, which continues to wreak havoc on hundreds of local communities.
According to Breitbart, a county judge who presides over a Texas border town formally invited the president to his area to get a first-hand look at the “challenges” that the judge says have been created by Biden’s approach to border and immigration policy.
His letter came in the wake of several Texas law enforcement leaders claiming that their towns and counties have been “overrun” by asylum-seeking migrants, as Yahoo News reported.
Judge begs for help
Though many in the mainstream media conveniently look the other way on the issue, the illegal immigration surge at the nation’s southern border is still out of control, with tens of thousands of migrants pouring across the border on a weekly basis.
That’s why it’s not surprising that community leaders, like Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez, have asked the president for help that his, and other communities, urgently need right now.
In his letter, Judge Cortez made it clear that he sympathizes with some of the reasons why so many asylum-seekers are desperately attempting to get to U.S. soil but said that the administration needs to take “immediate and decisive action” to protect border communities that are literally being overrun.
In addition, the county judge, who is also the chief executive officer for the county government, asked the Biden administration for federal assistance in the form of manpower and other much-needed resources.
Notably, Cortez was one of a handful of county judges who originally was against adopting a disaster declaration signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), with his reason being that he felt, at the time, that crime hadn’t risen to levels that would require such a response.
While it’s unclear the reason that Cortez seems to now be expressing a sense of urgency in his cries for federal assistance, his letter comes on the heels of a scary incident in La Joya, Texas, where a group of migrants, who had tested positive for COVID-19, were spotted eating a local fast-food restaurant in the small city.
When questioned by authorities, the COVID-positive migrants told them that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents had released them after testing positive for the virus.
The sick migrants, who were being housed in a La Joya hotel courtesy of the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV), were clearly not following basic quarantine procedures, which triggered outrage in the local community, including from local law enforcement, Breitbart noted.
“We also want to add Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley did not inform the La Joya Police Department that people that had symptoms or were sick with Covid-19 were going to be placed in the Texas Inn Hotel,” a La Joya Police Department Facebook post stated.
