As President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris face continuously sagging approval ratings, reports suggest their respective camps are mired in accusations, frustrations, and suspicions against each other.
Some critics believe that perception was bolstered recently with a brief hug between the two at a bill-signing ceremony on Monday.
“A less-than-convincing display”
According to the New York Post, the encounter struck many onlookers as “a less-than-convincing display of unity.”
The outlet further noted that Biden and Harris placed an arm on each other’s shoulder for just a moment while taking the stage on the South Lawn of the White House. The vice president quickly pulled away, creating a gap between the two.
During her remarks, however, Harris offered praise for Biden for his role in advancing a $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure spending bill, which he signed into law at the end of the ceremony.
Of course, she has already cemented a reputation among many Americans for disingenuousness, so her kind words for the president came with a grain of salt.
Plenty of pundits on both sides of the aisle paid close attention to their body language in light of new reports that claim the Biden administration is seeking to distance itself from Harris due to concerns about her poor job performance.
Psaki dodges tough questions
Meanwhile, the vice president’s team is said to be disappointed in the issues she has been tasked with addressing, particularly the thorny immigration crisis unfolding along the nation’s southern border.
Such reports were even addressed by one reporter during Monday’s White House press briefing, prompting press secretary Jen Psaki to provide a fleeting response.
Psaki effectively dismissed the reports and insisted that everyone was getting along swimmingly behind the scenes. She refused to directly respond to a more direct facet of the question involving whether Biden would support and endorse a future presidential bid by his vice president.
Various rumors have emerged regarding the status of their relationship.
One theory being discussed in some circles close to the administration involves Biden appointing Harris to a future Supreme Court vacancy as a ploy to move her out of the executive branch.
