President Joe Biden delivered a confusing line during recent remarks to reporters at the White House.
He fueled additional concerns about his cognitive abilities when he declared on Sunday that his “butt’s been wiped.”
“There needs to be a pathway to citizenship”
The response came after a question about immigration from ABC News White House correspondent Molly Nagle. Even in context, the remark caused some consternation — and the background noise made it even more difficult to decipher exactly what Biden had been trying to communicate.
“Does immigration need to be in reconciliation?” Nagle asked. “A pathway for citizenship.”
Following his bizarre turn of phrase, Biden added: “There needs to be a pathway to citizenship; whether it needs to be in immigration remains to be seen.”
Reporters at the White House appeared to chuckle at the president’s comment, which struck some media analysts as a marked departure from the treatment former President Donald Trump received from the media.
“Trump walked slowly down a ramp one time and it was a week-long new cycle yet the current occupant of the Oval Office can keep having moments like this and it’s apparently not newsworthy,” noted freelance journalist Drew Holden.
“Needs a cognitive exam NOW!”
Concerns about possible mental decline have dogged Biden since the Democratic presidential primary race. His consistent gaffes and verbal stumbles suggested to some critics that his advanced age is catching up to him.
By the time he had secured his party’s nomination, however, the media has been largely silent on his disconcerting behavior.
Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), the former White House physician, has called on Biden to undergo cognitive testing and predicted that the president will not complete his entire term in office.
“Our cities are EXPLODING with drugs & violence because of Democrat ‘defund the police’ policies and the GREAT UNITER Joe Biden deflects to talk about ‘sucking blood out of kids,'” Jackson tweeted. “He’s completely LOST it! Needs a cognitive exam NOW!”
Other Republicans have similarly speculated that Biden is unlikely to make it through his current term in the White House — and his “butt wipe” comment has certainly not assuaged any such concerns.
