President Joe Biden hasn’t wasted any time in making sure that whatever is left of his predecessor’s administration is wiped away.
That was made evident again late last week when, according to the Daily Wire, the heads of three federally funded, international broadcasters were shown the door.
The firings came as the Biden administration seeks to refresh who’s in charge at the U.S. Agency for Global Media.
According to reports, the heads of Voice of America (VOA) and several similar outlets have been abruptly fired, in some cases just a matter of weeks after being appointed to their positions.
As the Associated Press reported, not only was the director of the Voice of America as well as his deputy fired in recent days, but the directors of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks were also promptly let go.
Adding to the chaotic ordeal was the forced resignation of the Trump-appointed head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Michael Pack, which came literally hours after Biden was sworn into office last week.
Who’s in charge?
Controversy had previously erupted within the ranks of the international broadcasting outlets as Democrats repeatedly accused the Trump administration of filling the roles with pro-Trump directors, saying that the choices effectively turned the outlets into pro-Trump propaganda.
Even the AP reported that “Pack, a conservative filmmaker and former associate of Trump’s onetime political strategist Steve Bannon, intended to turn venerable U.S. media outlets into pro-Trump propaganda machines.”
Biden reportedly gave Pack’s coveted job to 30-year VOA veteran journalist Kelu Chao, who was a vocal critic of Pack while he led the organization.
Biden breaks out the ax
The ouster of former Trump-era officials comes as Biden is working quickly to sign off on a long list of executive orders that will similarly erase a number of his predecessor’s policies.
Some of those orders signaled that Biden is fully embracing the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, including by committing to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization (WHO).
At this pace, it’s not a stretch to suggest that it won’t be long before any trace of Donald Trump will be permanently deleted from the White House.
