Biden confirms he is pushing ‘to eliminate the sale’ of certain pistols, rifles

After previously insisting that the Second Amendment is not “absolute,” it appears that President Joe Biden has now effectively declared war on the right to bear arms.

In a statement this week, Biden boldly affirmed that he is pushing to ban the sale of certain high-capacity handguns and rifles, as The Daily Wire reported.

“Whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle”

The president’s statements during a recent CNN town hall event seemed to be a departure from typical progressive narratives. Instead of targeting specific classifications of firearms, Biden went after 9mm pistols and rifles in general, challenging the argument that the left simply wants “commonsense” gun control.

Based on his remarks this week, critics have a new reason to believe the Biden administration plans to come for Americans’ guns.

“I’m the only guy that ever got — passed legislation when I was a senator to make sure we eliminated assault weapons,” Biden said on Wednesday. “The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon, whether it’s a, whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle, is ridiculous,” he said on Wednesday.

In case there was any doubt about his intentions, Biden added: “I’m continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things, but I’m not likely to get that done in the near term.”

While he appears to feel constrained by time, the president might still be able to initiate a process that Democrats in the future can bring to fruition.

Biden plays long game on guns

Biden clearly echoed his party’s push to restrict the Second Amendment, but it is worth noting that he also mentioned his support for hiring more police nationwide.

Maybe he understands that his gun-grabbing agenda would not succeed in tandem with the far-left “defund the police” movement. After all, fewer officers would mean fewer opportunities to confiscate firearms.

The president is likely correct in his assessment that he will not be able to dismantle the Second Amendment during his term in office.

With a solid conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court, proposed gun bans would likely be struck down. Furthermore, the Senate is evenly divided between the two parties and Democrats only have a razor-thin majority in the House.

Nevertheless, Biden’s pick to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives signals that he is laying the groundwork for gun confiscation.
