Biden considered resigning from vice presidency under Obama

 February 9, 2024

President Joe Biden was so upset with a decision made by former President Barack Obama that he once considered resigning from the vice presidency.

According to Fox News, this information comes from the new report that has been released by Robert Hur, the special counsel who has been investigating the claim that Biden mishandled classified documents.

Hur decided not to recommend any criminal charges against Biden.

Hur's report, though, is making headlines for a number of revelations that it contains, including that Biden once thought about resigning from the Obama administration.

What happened?

According to Hur's report, Biden actually thought about resigning from the vice presidency to "protest" Obama's Afghanistan policies. This was back in 2009.

"Tomorrow, the President is going to make a fateful decision regarding Afghanistan - as I sat looking out the window at the sea - thinking I should resign in protest over what will bring his administration down," Biden said.

Hur says that Biden wrote this in an "Af/Pak" notebook that he used to take notes during National Security Council meetings, concerning Afghanistan, that he attended at the time.

Biden, apparently, was not happy with the Obama administration's decision to send more troops to Afghanistan.

Biden, in the notebook entry, added, "Although I obviously wasn't there I feel like this is what it must have felt like for Kennedy then Johnson in the early days of VTN [Vietnam]. I feel guilty and boxed in myself. Guilty for not having been more successful w/ the President - and staying. Boxed in by knowing or at least feeling that my resignation would only harden his position and leave him with one less voice."

Biden's motivation

Hur, in his report, claims that Biden held on to classified documents relating to Afghanistan because he wanted to prove that he was right and that Obama was wrong about the situation. .

"He wanted the record to show that he was right about Afghanistan; that his critics were wrong; and that he had opposed President Obama's mistaken decision forcefully," Hur wrote.

Where are the charges?

Hur added:

There is evidence that, after his vice presidency, Mr. Biden willfully retained marked classified documents about Afghanistan and unmarked classified handwritten notes in his notebooks, both of which he stored in unsecured places in his home. He had no legal authority to do so, and his retention of these materials, and disclosure of classified information from his notebooks to his ghostwriter, risked serious damage to America's national security.

If this is indeed the case, the question, then, is why isn't Hur charging Biden with a crime? According to Hur, it is because a jury would not convict Biden beyond a reasonable doubt. Why?

ABC News reports, "Notably, Hur believed that at trial Biden could come across not only as 'sympathetic,' but forgetful and not capable of the willfulness required to convict."
