Biden campaign won’t rule out ‘informal interaction’ between VP and top Burisma exec

While Hunter Biden continues to face criticism for his dubious international business ties, his father, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, has thus far been able to skirt questions linking him to any potential conflict of interest.

In the wake of an uncovered email from a Ukrainian business associate of Hunter Biden, however, the former vice president now seems to be leaving open the possibility that he had an “informal” meeting with the foreign figure, as reported by the Daily Wire.

“Thank you for inviting me to D.C.”

The email, first published on Wednesday as part of a bombshell New York Post report, purportedly expressed the gratitude of Vadym Pozharskyi, a top adviser and executive for Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, toward the younger Biden for setting up a meeting with the then-vice president.

If those allegations are true, it would mean that Biden has not been transparent about his level of knowledge and involvement in his son’s international business deals.

Hunter Biden has long been under scrutiny for the perceived impropriety of his lucrative position on the board of Burisma, which has been investigated on allegations of corruption.

The Post reported that the 2015 email had been recovered from the hard drive of an abandoned laptop that belonged to him.

“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together. It’s realty [sic] an honor and pleasure,” Pozharskyi wrote, according to the Post.

He allegedly went on to request another meeting.

“Russian disinformation”

The report was widely denounced by Democratic pundits and media outlets, including the Biden campaign’s dismissal of the claims as “Russian disinformation,” according to Politico.

A statement pointed to the former vice president’s official schedule from that time period, noting that there was no record of any such meeting between the elder Biden and Pozharskyi.

Politico, however, noted that there was “no immediate indication” that Russia had been involved in leaking the emails, going on to point out that the Biden campaign “would not rule out the possibility” that some type of “informal interaction with Pozharskyi” occurred outside of the vice president’s official schedule.

Even as the Democratic nominee is further linked to his son’s international entanglements, his campaign appears to be playing games with their rhetoric instead of offering a firm defense of his actions.
