A former Senate staffer for current Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden came forward last week with serious sexual assault allegations against the candidate.
But according to the Daily Wire, a spokeswoman for the Biden campaign responded soon after with an assertion that the accusation is “false.” She went on to call on the media to “rigorously vet those claims.”
The problem, however, is that Biden and the rest of the Democratic Party have been pushing the narrative of “believe all women” for years. Following the emergence of the #MeToo era, merely brushing aside sexual assault allegations is no longer acceptable, particularly for those in the public eye.
Serious assault allegations
Tara Reade worked as a staffer for the then-Sen.Joe Biden in the early ’90s. She alleges that he pushed her against a wall and kissed her while touching her in a sexual and non-consensual manner, according to The Guardian.
Kate Bedingfield, Biden’s deputy campaign manager and communications director, provided a statement responding to the allegations to Fox News on Friday. Bedingfield declared: “Women have a right to tell their story, and reporters have an obligation to rigorously vet those claims. We encourage them to do so, because these accusations are false.”
Coming from the campaign of Joe Biden, a man who has repeatedly pushed the “believe all women” narrative, the sudden reversal of standards with regard to accusations of this type is jarring indeed.
According to the Daily Wire, Biden once said in reference to the allegations against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, “For a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally, you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real, whether or not she forgets facts, whether or not it’s been made worse or better over time. But nobody fails to understand that this is like jumping into a cauldron.”
Despite the Biden campaign’s attempts to characterize the former vice president as a champion of feminism, Biden has a long history of behaving inappropriately toward women — something for which the Trump campaign will not hesitate to hold him to account during the general election.
#MeToo as a political weapon
Democrats have weaponized allegations of sexual assault made against their opponents. Now that one of their own stands accused, the rule of law needs to apply.
The legacy of blatant partisanship within the #MeToo movement continues to this day, as the liberal mainstream media establishment has blatantly ignored Reade’s claims.
Biden was interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and NBC’s Chuck Todd over the weekend, and nary a peep about the bombshell accusation was uttered by either anchor, according to Fox News.
Additionally, Reade was denied support from the Time’s Up organization that is supposed to represent victims of sexual assault, according to reports. Sadly, it seems that women victimized in this way can only hope that the perpetrators in their cases are Republicans — otherwise, their claims are likely to be swept under the rug.
