Former Trump official Stephen Miller says Biden border policies responsible for ‘child smuggling epidemic’

President Joe Biden’s open borders policies have had the effect of dramatically increasing the number of hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied migrant children who arrive at and are allowed to enter the nation’s southern border, and not all of those children end up with the better life situations they and their families had been hoping to find.

Instead, according to a former top Trump administration official, some of those children end up as victims of human trafficking for sexual or slave labor purposes, or both, thanks in large part to Biden’s policies, the Western Journal reported.

That former official is Stephen Miller, a top policy adviser for former President Donald Trump, who recently blamed President Biden and congressional Democrats as being responsible for the “largest child smuggling epidemic in human history.”

Biden “running largest child smuggling operation”

Last week, in response to a report from the Washington Examiner that more than 250,000 unaccompanied migrant children had been let into the country since President Biden took office, Miller took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the situation.

“These astronomical numbers defy any historical comparison,” he tweeted. “So overwhelmingly are the prior records exceeded that there is no reference point. Biden, with the unflinching aid of 50 Senate Democrats, is running the largest child smuggling operation our world has ever seen.”

Biden enriching smugglers

The Washington Examiner later reached out to Miller for further explanation of what he had said in that social media post, and Miller held nothing back in doing so.

“Joe Biden’s decision to resettle all unaccompanied illegal minors from beyond Mexico in the United States, and to place them with unvetted adult sponsors, makes him and his party in Congress responsible for the largest child smuggling epidemic in human history,” Miller said.

“It has enriched virtually every major child smuggler in the hemisphere and far beyond. It has filled the ranks of MS-13. It has created a monstrous industry of vast global reach. And it has made America’s border into the world’s epicenter of labor trafficking, sex trafficking, and modern-day slavery,” he added.

There are horrific examples

The Examiner noted that, at least on paper, the administration tries to connect the unaccompanied migrant children with either family members or vetted “sponsors” already living in America who can provide care for the children, but a recent report from The Washington Times made clear that the policy doesn’t always work out in practice, sometimes with horrific results for the children.

One such case involved a young girl from Guatemala who, via a so-called “family loophole,” was placed in a home with supposed relatives who actually weren’t related and, for several years, routinely abused that girl physically and sexually and used her as slave labor. It was only after the girl suffered a miscarriage after being raped that authorities figured out what had happened.

“This case is truly sickening. But it’s also terribly frustrating because the federal government is fully aware of the potential for such awful things to be done to young kids under the current system, but refuses to put in place policies to prevent it,” Jessica Vaughn, policy studies director for the Center for Immigration Studies, told the Times. She went on to blame both President Biden and DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, who she said was “an accomplice to this kind of trafficking and abuse because he has implemented the policies that enable it.”

It shouldn’t take a rape and miscarriage to discover this abuse,” Vaughn concluded.
