Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden was just caught pandering for votes.
At a campaign event in Detroit, Michigan, on Friday, Biden heaped praise on the state’s Democrat governor, Gretchen Whitmer, who has become known for her draconian coronavirus restrictions. “There’s not a better governor in the United States of America than Gretchen Whitmer,” Biden claimed. The audience cheered, Breitbart reports.
Biden proceeded to pile on the praise for some time, calling Whitmer a leader. “You stand up straight and tall and you don’t bend,” Biden said.
The former vice president was mainly focusing on Whitmer’s handling of the coronavirus, saying that she is “pretty much doing it better than anybody else in the whole United States of America.”
“You’ve shown this whole nation just how tough and thoughtful you are,” Biden said. “I’ve got to believe this state is so proud of you.”
Whitmer has been, probably, the most iron-fisted governor in the United States over the past several months when it comes to the coronavirus. She has kept her state locked down, and, even recently, when the state’s judiciary ruled that Whitmer’s orders are illegal, Whitmer insisted that she will find a way to get around the court’s ruling.
Not only that, but Whitmer was one of those governors who, early on, adopted the policy of sending COVID-19 patients to long-term care facilities, thereby spreading the virus to the most vulnerable demographic. As a result, by the end of July, one-third of the state’s coronavirus deaths were in nursing homes.
Biden wasn’t finished
The former vice president went on to comment upon an alleged kidnapping plot of Whitmer by, in Biden’s words, “domestic terrorists.”
“It’s the sort of behavior you might expect from ISIS,” Biden said. He went on to blame the whole thing, of course, on President Donald Trump.
The facts, however, show, that at least one of the individuals who had planned to kidnap Whitmer actually thought of Trump as a “tyrant.” But, of course, this doesn’t fit with the left’s narrative.
Michigan is a battleground state, and it is clear that Biden is desperate to win it — why else would he go to such extremes to praise Whitmer? One wonders, however, whether he actually just lost the state.
Whitmer’s handling of the coronavirus hasn’t exactly been popular with many Michiganders. And, not only that, but Whitmer is representative of the far-left, and in aligning himself with Whitmer, Biden could turn off a lot of his more centrist Democratic voters. We’ll have to see whether this decision ends up costing him.
