This week, President Joe Biden participated in an Associated Press interview in which he acknowledged that the American people are “really, really down.”
The 30-minute interview took place on Thursday in the Oval Office.
“Really, really down”
Speaking about the current mood of the American people, Biden said, “people are really, really down.”
As for why “people are really, really down,” Biden refused to point the finger at himself. Instead, he blamed the current mood of the American people on the coronavirus pandemic.
“Their need for mental health in America has skyrocketed because people have seen everything upset,” Biden said. “Everything they’ve counted on upset.”
“But, most of it’s the consequence of what happened, what happened as a consequence of the, the COVID crisis,” the president added.
Well, that’s one way to look at it.
Another viewpoint
Polls have consistently indicated that Americans, by and far, are most upset about the current economic crisis, which includes four-decade high inflation.
There is much debate about the cause of this economic crisis. As Biden suggests, some of the blame probably can be placed on the coronavirus pandemic. But, other blame has to be put on the policies pushed by the Biden administration since Biden took over.
Biden, however, during the interview, disputed the argument, saying:
If it’s my fault, why is it the case in every other major industrial country in the world that inflation is higher? You ask yourself that? I’m not being a wise guy.
Now, many economists are predicting that a recession could be on the horizon and that this recession could be hastened by attempting to artificially ward off inflation. However, Biden, also took issue with this, saying, “first of all, it’s not inevitable,” and “secondly, we’re in a stronger position than any nation in the world to overcome this inflation.”
Given what we have seen from the Biden administration thus far, it is hard to take anything Biden says – especially with regard to the economy – seriously. Remember it wasn’t that long ago that he and his administration were claiming that the inflation Americans were witnessing was just going to be a transitory phenomenon. Yet, here we are.
