Biden admin. to ramp up policing of social media ‘disinformation’

Fox News just published a report revealing that the top agencies of President Joe Biden’s administration are ramping up efforts to combat “disinformation” that is posted on social media platforms.

The agencies leading the effort, according to Fox, include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), The Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Defense (DOD), the and the State Department.

What’s going on?

Fox, in its report, explains what each agency is up to, at least to the extent that the agencies have made known to the public.

Fox reports, for example, that newly-released documents reveal that, although the DHS has “disbanded its controversial Disinformation Governance Board in May, the agency is still working to combat disinformation on a range of topics, including COVID-19, vaccines, racial issues, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, and Ukraine aid.”

Another example is a new policy from the DOD, which is titled, “Official Use of Social Media for Public Affairs Purposes.” Fox reports that the policy warns “against adversaries who may try and distort the truth or mislead employees through ‘disinformation campaigns.'”

One big question with regard to all of this is to what extent the Biden administration is working with Big Tech.

Another important question is whether all of this, at least in part, is merely an effort by Biden and the Democrats to silence their political opposition.

Mis – and Dis-information

One of the big problems with government-led efforts to combat “misinformation” and “disinformation” is that the administration in charge gets to define these terms.

Republicans have been arguing for some time now that the Biden administration in conjunction with Big Tech has been using the terms “disinformation” and “misinformation” as tools to silence their political opposition, to silence Republican viewpoints.

The Biden administration, in response, has been heavily criticized by Republicans, including Republican members of Congress. There is even a lawsuit that is ongoing that alleges that members of the Biden administration “pressured and colluded” with Big Tech to suppress and censor information that could have hurt them politically.

We have seen this, most notably, with three situations: Hunter Biden’s laptop, the coronavirus pandemic, and the 2020 presidential election. Big Tech actively suppressed and censored anything that went against the leftist narrative with regard to these issues, and it appears that the Biden administration was likely a part of at least some of these efforts.

Something has to be done to stop put a stop to this. But, for now, as Fox reports, it appears that the censorship will continue with the Biden administration leading the way.
