Leftists across America cried foul when President Donald Trump criticized the Maryland city of Baltimore and its leadership for failing to address the dismal conditions that have plagued the city’s residents for years — but now, one member of Trump’s cabinet is standing up for what’s right.
Ben Carson recently visited Baltimore, according to Breitbart, and the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary said there are problems there that just can’t be ignored any longer.
Sweeping the problems under the rug
Ben Carson knows the situation in Balitmore better than almost anyone, because he’s done work there as a pediatric neurosurgeon.
“There are a lot of good places here in Baltimore,” Carson told reporters after he toured the city on Wednesday. “But there are problems and we can’t sweep them under the rug. You have to be willing to address that issue if you are ever going to solve it.”
But addressing the problem is exactly what Democrats don’t want to do. Instead, they’d rather sit idly by while kids in Baltimore continue to grow up in terrible conditions.
“As a pediatric neurosurgeon, you know I spent a lot of time trying to give the children here in Baltimore a second chance at life, operating for hours and hours, all night sometimes,” Carson said Wednesday. “Most of the times being successful.”
But Carson added that it was hard “sending those kids back into some of the neighborhoods that I knew they came from in east Baltimore and west Baltimore where there were rats, and roaches, and mice, and ticks; where there was just unabated lead problems that were having devastating effects on the mental development of young people.”
Indeed, these neighborhoods are poverty, disease, and crime-ridden. And the people representing them aren’t doing anything to help.
Trump admin steps up
That’s why Trump stepped in — and despite liberals’ complaints, everything he’s said about the city is more or less true. Baltimore is a mess — and with this in mind, Trump wants to know what the city has done with the billions of dollars in federal aid it has received.
“[Money has] been misspent. It’s missing,” Trump told reporters, according to the Baltimore Sun. “It’s been stolen with a lot of corrupt government. And as you know, [Elijah] Cummings has been in charge. Now, I will say this: I think that Rep. Cummings should take his oversight committee and start doing oversight on Baltimore. He’d find out some real things.”
Trump is right: the people of Baltimore have been neglected by their own leaders for far too long.
Thankfully, this administration is actually doing something about it.
