Barr on Lafayette Park debacle: ‘These were not peaceful protesters’

Democrats were furious when Lafayette Park was cleared for President Donald Trump to take a walk to St. John’s Church last week, arguing that the president broke up peaceful protesters for a photo-op.

Attorney General William Barr, however, recently revealed the shocking truth — and Democrats are not going to be happy about it.

“The big lies”

Many in the mainstream media were very vocal about chastising Trump for the use of tear gas on peaceful protesters. But when Attorney General William Barr appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation this weekend, he more or less crushed the narrative the media has been pushing.

“These were not peaceful protesters,” Barr announced, according to Breitbart. “And that’s one of the big lies that the media is — seems to be perpetuating at this point.”

Barr went on to say that several warnings had been given to the protesters before a show of force was used.

According to Barr, protesters were warned three times. The AG also pushed back on the narrative that only looters were doing damage during the rioting.

“Not looters, these were the violent rioters who dominated Lafayette Park,” Barr said, according to Breitbart.

While there have also been reports that the actions taken to clear Lafayette Park came from Barr, he confirmed that the orders were given by U.S. Park Police leadership.

Looking forward

Meanwhile, the media is continuing to support rioters, failing to distinguish them from the peaceful protesters demonstrating against alleged police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death. During the first few days of the demonstrations, the Daily Caller reported that NBC News had forbidden its reporters from using the word “riot” when they reported on these stories.

It has gotten so bad that even reporters for Fox News are justifying it, saying the looters’ and rioters’ frustration is understandable. But regardless of their level of frustration, no one has the right to loot stores and throw bricks at police officers.

The divide between the right and the left has never been more apparent. On the right, we have a call for law and order; on the left, there are now movements to defund the police.

We may never again see an election that will have more of an impact on the future of this country than this November’s.
