The disrespect that is directed toward our law enforcement officers these days is getting out of control.
As such, Attorney General William “Bill” Barr has announced that Americans need to start showing more “respect and support that law enforcement deserves,” The Epoch Times reports.
Over the summer, we saw how extreme the disrespect of our police officers has become. In New York, videos were going viral all summer of residents throwing buckets of water or spraying them with water bottles while they were doing their rounds.
In Philadelphia, while police officers were answering a call for an active shooter, residents were threatening them, according to Fox News.
Imagine: you are literally ready to take a bullet to protect the public, and the very people you are potentially sacrificing your life for are throwing trash at you and screaming derogatory names.
In Texas, there was a case where a man sped on purpose to get pulled over, knowing he was going to shoot the officer when he approached the car. The examples of disrespect and outright threats go on and on — far too many to cite here.
In all, Barr stated there are now about 60,000 assaults against officers every year, a significant increase over years past.
This needs to change
The Democrat narrative has almost made it mandatory for citizens to disrespect police, something that Barr wants to see changed as soon as possible.
“Today, American people have to focus on something else, which is the sacrifice and the service that is given by our law enforcement officers,” Barr said.
He went on: “And they have to start showing, more than they do, the respect and support that law enforcement deserves.”
We are in a situation where people no longer even want to apply for the job. Major cities throughout the country and struggling to get quality applicants, whereas being a police officer used to be a highly sought-after position, and only the best of the best could even bother applying.
The police force used to be packed with former military, but that is no longer the case because they know far too many people simply do not appreciate the job these brave individuals are doing.
