Barr defends Durham investigation, blasts Comey for ‘failure of leadership’

Attorney General Bill Barr will not be intimidated into backing down by belligerent Democrats.

Barr made it clear last week that U.S. Attorney John Durham’s criminal investigation into the origins of the Trump–Russia probe will continue despite Democrat protests — and in the process, the AG took a swipe at fired FBI Director James Comey, the Washington Examiner reports.

Democrats losing credibility

Democrats have long attacked the criminal investigation into what happened during the 2016 election. Right now, it is suspected that there was serious misconduct that could amount to spying conducted by the FBI and the Obama administration.

The investigation is being led by U.S. Attorney John Durham. Barr responded to claims that he’s acting as Trump’s “personal lawyer” by firing back that it’s “completely wrong and there is no basis for it, and I act on behalf of the United States,” and went on to emphasize that he is not running the investigation; Durham is.

Barr took a shot at Comey, saying that “one of the reasons Mr. Durham is able to make the kind of progress he’s making is because Director Wray and his team at the FBI have just been outstanding in support and responsiveness given to Mr. Durham.”

He went on: “I’ve said previously that I felt there was a failure of leadership at the bureau in 2016 and part of 2017, but since Director Wray and his team have taken over there’s been a world of change. I think that he is restoring the steady professionalism that’s been a hallmark of the FBI.”

The Durham investigation will either prove that Trump’s campaign was spied on in 2016, or it wasn’t. The only reason Democrats would fight an investigation like that is if they had something to hide, and James Comey should be quaking in his boots right now.

Huge implications

Once upon a time, a president resigned for spying on political opponents with the power of the U.S. government.

If it is true that President Barack Obama and the FBI spied on Trump’s campaign, that will have huge political implications leading into 2020. It will also vindicate many who said that the Russia collusion hoax was a huge distraction from the real misconduct in 2016.

The fact it has taken three years to get to this point where we are finally investigating the FBI and James Comey for acquiring surveillance warrants based on the phony Christopher Steele dossier is disgraceful.

Our systems are bogged down and broken, it took two years to finally conclude the Mueller investigation that everyone knew wouldn’t find anything. It has now taken three years to investigate very credible allegations of spying.

It is time for real change in Washington, and Bill Barr is leading the charge.
