In a big split from Democrats who believe climate change is going to put the entire coastline underwater, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama just spent almost 12 million on a mansion right by the water.
Confirming the rumors from earlier this year, the former first family officially purchased the $11.75 million waterfront mansion in Martha’s Vineyard this week.
This purchase is the same one that made some headlines back in August, but it just became official on Wednesday. It is also the same house that the family rented over the summer.
According to the listing, the mansion comes in at almost 7,000 square feet accompanied by some 29 acres of land facing the Edgartown Great Pond.
“[The] main residence is finished with the finest details and is designed with 7 bedrooms, and 8.5 baths, multiple seating and entertaining spaces, a modern Chef’s kitchen, and a formal circular dining room surrounded by a wall of windows overlooking the grounds,” the listing reads. “There are two guest wings and an impressive master suite with fireplace, private sun deck, and spectacular water views.”
“Your summer days can be spent poolside in a garden-like setting with the sounds of the waves lapping in the distance, or exploring the expansive Great Pond and outer barrier beach for a full day on the water,” it continues.
That’s a lot of water. In fact, considering the island’s proximity to the sea along with the property being called “the perfect family compound setting for generations to come,” it makes one wonder about the Obama’s belief and advocacy for solutions to the climate “problem.”
Failure to practice one’s preaching
As Breitbart’s John Nolte wrote in August when word first got around that the Obamas were going to purchase this property, if you do believe in climate change, then this is a terrible investment. “Regardless of his [Obama’s] age, if Global Warming were real, this would be a terrible investment under any circumstance,” Nolte wrote.
Of course, according to the believers of climate change and global warming, the idea is that glaciers will melt, seawater will rise, and places like Martha’s Vineyard will end up underwater. So, it is legitimate to ask what the Obamas are doing? If they believe in global warming, why would they spend almost $12 million on a property that in short order will be underwater?
Not only that, but the purchase is also very interesting considering recent comments by Michelle Obama. “But unbeknownst to us,” she said at the Obama Foundation Summit in October, “we grew up in the period — as I write — called ‘white flight.’ That as families like ours, upstanding families like ours … As we moved in, white folks moved out because they were afraid of what our families represented.”
As those familiar with Martha’s Vineyard probably know, it’s about 95 percent white, and only two percent black.
Apparently ready to meet such criticisms, the Obamas now add this property to their collection, which includes an $8.1 million house in Washington DC and a $1.65 million house in Chicago.
