A former chief adviser and strategist for former President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, is unsurprisingly not a fan of the job done thus far by current President Joe Biden, particularly with regard to securing the nation’s southern border and enforcing immigration laws.
Bannon recently predicted that Biden will face impeachment over the border situation shortly after Republicans take control of Congress, which they are expected to do in the upcoming midterm elections in November, the Conservative Brief reported.
Biden to be impeached over border situation
During a recent episode of his popular “War Room” podcast, Bannon said of President Biden, “You have stood down [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] and you’ve stood down Border Patrol, and guess what? That’s the impeachment hearing I want to hear.”
“You’re going to sit there day after day and week after week and we’re going to bring the witnesses,” he continued. “We’re going to bring the witnesses of what you did to this country and what you did on the southern border.”
Bannon went on to say to the president, “Preserve your documents because after impeachment, they’re going to put you up on criminal charges. Criminal charges for allowing this country to be invaded by your actions.”
“Acts of commission not acts of omission. We’re not going to back down, so write it down,” he added. “This November is about one thing: it’s impeaching Joe Biden to stop this madness and to stop this illegitimate regime from destroying our nation.”
Sen. Cruz called for impeachment in January
Steve Bannon is certainly not alone in suggesting that President Biden could face impeachment once the House and perhaps even the Senate are under GOP control, and numerous Republicans have suggested the same, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who noted in January that Democrats will likely get a taste of their own medicine after having twice “weaponized” impeachment for partisan purposes against former President Trump.
Newsmax reported in January that Cruz, during an episode of his own “Verdict” podcast, suggested the odds were great that Republicans would win control of Congress in November and said, “If we take the House, which I said is overwhelmingly likely, then I think we will see serious investigations of the Biden administration.”
“Whether it’s justified or not, the Democrats weaponized impeachment,” the senator continued. “They used it for partisan purposes to go after Trump because they disagreed with him. One of the real disadvantages of doing that is the more you weaponize it and turn it into a partisan cudgel — you know what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”
“I think there will be enormous pressure on a Republican House to begin impeachment proceedings,” Cruz said, according to Mediaite. “I think there are potentially multiple grounds to consider for impeachment.”
“Probably the most compelling is the utter lawlessness, is President Biden to enforce the border. His decision to just defy immigration laws,” he added. “That’s probably the strongest grounds right now for impeachment but there may be others.”
Indeed, while Biden’s veritable open borders policies sit atop the list of potentially impeachable offenses, it is closely followed by his woeful handling of the economy and inflation and his fatally consequential foreign policy decisions, but as Cruz said in January, there are “multiple grounds to consider” as reasons to impeach and remove Biden from office.
