Baltimore students greet first lady with chorus of boos and jeers: Report

This is generally the time of year when the first lady will visit local schools to promote whichever cause she has chosen as her main area of focus during her tenure in the White House.

While it is usually considered an honor to have her in attendance, Baltimore high school students at the B’More Youth Summit for Opioid Awareness displayed a complete lack of class by attacking Melania Trump with boos and jeers as she took the stage for a recent talk, Breitbart reports.

Embarrassing showing

While Melania Trump tours throughout the year for her “Be Best” program, the holiday season generally sees an uptick in appearances.

Mrs. Trump appeared at the youth summit for an event organized by the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

It is generally accepted that the attendees will be on their best behavior and give the first lady the respect she deserves. In this case, however, despite the fact that Melania Trump is doing important work in combating the opioid crisis sweeping the nation, she still faces attack after attack just because she’s married to Donald Trump.

Despite the uncalled-for opposition, Melania told the audience: “I am in this fight with you and I am fighting for you.”

She went on: “I know each one of you has hopes and dreams for the future, whether it is college, joining the military, or playing a sport, your future will be determined by the choices you make. Using drugs will only slow you down and prevent you from achieving those goals.”

Proving the president right

The city of Baltimore has been in a downward spiral for decades. When President Trump called out late Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings (MD) for his shortfalls, the Internet and media blew up, but Trump hit the nail on the head.

Many of the neighborhoods in Baltimore are overrun with both crime and homelessness. Politicians like Cummings got rich by spending their entire career in politics while the people they are supposed to represent have rotted away in poverty.

Some areas of his district seem to have more vacant homes than families living in them.

Children should be taught to respect adults, not jeer them in public — especially our first lady. Regardless of political affiliation, Melania Trump is campaigning in support of a bipartisan issue that should unite the country, not divide it.
