In the eyes of conservatives, Joe Biden seems to be a mere placeholder who will be easily molded into a puppet of the far left. And Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appears to have just confirmed that.
In a Tuesday interview with Just the News, AOC spilled the beans: “I think, overall, we can likely push Vice President Biden in a more progressive direction across policy issues.”
Pushing Joe to the left
In order for Biden to win this election, he is going to need the full support of Bernie Sanders’ followers — something Hillary Clinton was unable to get in her 2016 match-up against now-President Donald Trump. And as progressive as some may see Uncle Joe, Bernie’s most prominent backer — AOC — still isn’t impressed.
“There are some areas where we just fundamentally disagree, but that’s OK,” she told Just the News of Biden on Tuesday.
She went on: “I think it’s important to acknowledge that we can have, in some cases, very large disagreements — it doesn’t mean that we’re trying to undermine the party or undermine each other. It means that we’re trying to do what’s best for people in the country.”
In particular, Ocasio-Cortez pointed to foreign policy, criminal justice reform, and immigration as areas where Biden could use a little more convincing.
“I think foreign policy is an enormous area where we can improve; immigration is another one,” she told Just the News. “We’ll see what progress that we’re able to make on issues like immigration and criminal justice reform,” she added later in the interview.
Joe Biden is already pitching a fairly progressive agenda, but that is not necessarily the agenda he will put in play if elected.
The plan by AOC and company seems to be to tell voters what they need to hear to get Biden into office, then to put Biden over a barrel to get their own policies passed. But as Biden tries to fashion himself a moderate Democrat, would that strategy really be living up to what the American people hypothetically would have voted for?
Worse still, if — perhaps when — Biden gives up the chair behind the Resolute desk to Kamala Harris, any idea of a “moderate” administration can be thrown out the window.
This election is about more than just Trump and Biden. It’s about the future of America.
Do we really want to put that in the hands of AOC?
