Our politicians far too often get away with saying outrageous things with no accountability.
One doctor is calling out Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for her “end of the world” comments, though, because she says AOC’s comments have children fearing the worst.
“Schoolchildren are still being terrified about climate change destroying their future … The Green New Deal is hardly new, and proponents are deadly serious,” Dr. Jane Orient said.
Pushing the Green New Deal
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez did not spare the theatrics when she presented her Green New Deal.
She made some rather controversial remarks while pushing the legislation, most notably putting a ticking clock on the lifespan of the earth.
AOC stated, “And I think the part of it that is generational is that millennials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.”
Since making that statement, AOC has claimed she was only joking, but anyone that heard the comments in context could clearly see she meant what she said at the time.
It was a purposeful statement meant to grab headlines and create enthusiasm for her bill. What it actually did, though, was to strike fear into the hearts of America’s children.
Today’s kids are brought up in a very left-leaning environment. From TV to teachers, just about everything they hear has a slant.
AOC has been made into a cult hero of sorts, so her words carry significant weight with today’s younger generation. With her comments, she now has little children wondering if they are even going to make it to the age of 21.
Will Democrats call her out for this?
We all know that is unlikely to happen, as they will all more than likely wait this out and hope the entire narrative just leaves the news cycle.
