Thirty-six shot, 7 dead after another bloody, violent weekend in Chicago

It was another bloody weekend in the city of Chicago, Illinois, where Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot is running the show.

Breitbart reported that between Friday and Sunday, Chicago witnessed 36 shootings, adding yet another deadly, violent weekend in a city that ironically boasts some of the toughest gun laws in the country.

As Breitbart noted, of those 36 shootings, seven resulted in deaths.

One win for the good guys

One of the incidents that resulted in a fatal shooting garnered significant media coverage, as the bad guy, an alleged robber, is the person who ended up on the wrong end of the barrel.

According to reports, the alleged armed robber accosted a 77-year-old man who was in his garage Saturday, minding his own business. The suspect pulled up to the man’s garage, exited his vehicle, and demanded the elderly man’s belongings.

What the robber failed to realize, however, was that the 77-year-old law-abiding citizen was a retired firefighter, and a concealed carry permit holder.

After the alleged robber issued his threat, the elderly man drew his firearm and opened fired, striking the robber in the head and chest. It was confirmed by the Chicago Police Department that the shots fired by the man proved fatal.

The bad news

Unfortunately, most of the shootings that erupted in the violence-prone city didn’t have such heroic endings. Quite the opposite, actually.

According to ABC7 Chicago, the first fatal shooting over the weekend, on Friday, involved a 29-year-old victim who was shot while driving in the 2100 block of West 71st Street.

Two more fatal shootings took place early Sunday morning. One individual was shot around University Village in the early-morning hours, while another individual was shot roughly 10 minutes later at Bronzeville.

All too common

The unfortunate fact is that fatal shootings have become commonplace in Chicago, with many of them resulting from unchecked gang violence. The seven fatalities from this week bring the total shooting deaths in Chicago in the month of November to 13. Forty-seven have been wounded in November as a result of shooting incidents. Sadly, the 13 shooting fatalities in November bring the yearly total of fatalities up to 689.

What those numbers prove is that Mayor Lightfoot has simply been unable to get crime under control, and at this point, it doesn’t appear as if she cares, given that such violent outbreaks seem to be shockingly consistent.
