Report: DOJ announces indictment of former Democrat congressman

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday that a former Democrat congressman had been indicted on charges of bribery and voter fraud, Politico reported.

Dems have been spending the last several months insisting that voter fraud practically doesn’t exist, but the case of Philidelphia’s Michael “Ozzie” Myers makes clear their argument doesn’t hold water.

“Democracy is not for sale”

According to Politico, Myers was previously convicted and served three years in prison for bribery.

Now, Politico notes that the Democrat has been indicted for what the DOJ described in a statement as “conspiring to violate voting rights by fraudulently stuffing the ballot boxes for specific candidates in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 primary elections, bribery of an election official, falsification of records, voting more than once in federal elections, and obstruction of justice.”

U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain, who works in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said his office will continue to work to enforce similar cases, because “that is what the public deserves.”

“Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy.  If only one vote has been illegally rung up or fraudulently stuffed into a ballot box, the integrity of that entire election is undermined,” McSwain said, according to the DOJ. “Votes are not things to be purchased and democracy is not for sale.”

McSwain went on: “If you are a political consultant, election official, or work with the polling places in any way, I urge you to do your job honestly and faithfully. That is what the public deserves, it is what democracy demands, and it is what my office will enforce.”

“A rigged election”

The news comes as the issue of voter fraud is at the forefront of the 2020 race. Democrats want Americans to vote by mail this November due to concerns over COVID-19, but Republicans — including President Donald Trump — have said the process only opens the door to fraud.

The president tweeted back in May:

Myers’ case only bolsters the GOP’s argument.

Indeed, voter fraud disenfranchises individuals and undermines our representation. Americans should stand behind President Trump and his DOJ and demand more security for our elections. Our democracy is at stake.
